Also - to the questions posed by Troy - if I was forced to pick, I'd go for option 1. However, given we are just a few days in to the contest, I don't think it quite makes sense yet to tinker with the contest. There is going to be quite a bit of variation in the WU's and any changes could back fire. I know I ended up under reporting - but that is because I am now firing up my main rig over night. If I leave it to just my folding rig, I'll be right about on target with the estimated PPD. I'm probably pushing upwards of an additional (on average) 10k with my main rig SMP. Also - as I wasn't in last years contest, but apparently there was some heartburn, I think it is best to leave it as is and let the contest play out. Unless, of course, there are outside factors that affect everyone (e.g. - PG and/or Stanford doing something to change the game - like QRB). My 2 cents.

On a side note - I should probably add/warn that I may have to suspend folding tomorrow. We are forecasting upwards of 12+ inches of snow with "Winter Storm Saturn" headed East. As it is supposed to be that nice (not using that term in a good way) thick, heavy snow - there is a strong possibility for downed power lines. If we start to get any indication of power outages, I'm going to pause and shut down rather than lose a WU(s). If that is the case -I'll be back up as soon as I possible.

Just keep us up to date. I'm home sick for the day, but I should log into the work servers to see what our meteorologist is saying. If it's a heavy snow, we'll be in full storm recovery mode which puts me on call for overnight coverage.

I would vote for option 1. Reason I say this is because before the contest started it had been mentioned that people could make up for members that wre under producing, and as of now people over producing dont seem to be getting that benefit. Adjusting overall PPD could be an issue as it would imbalance the very even PPD estimates when they separated the teams, unless they were doing percentages or something to determine winners. It all becomes very difficult, and what we all have to remember is that in the end we are doing this for the good of folding. Having said that, I would volunteer to take on an additional 40-50K PPD now or in the playoff situation if needed. I didnt intend to fold on anything but 1 650TI haha, but if we need to make adjustments, I can fire up some of my other stuff.

I'm with you crenzo. If I (or we) need to go full out - I can bring to bear several other pieces of hardware - for a short period anyway. I have 3x 580 SC's that I don't fold with (anymore) only because of the temps. I could do some re-configuring and fire 'em up for a short sprint. That would probably put us around an additional 100k PPD (give or take, WU depending).

New WU's haven't hit my PPD so hard as it is split between GPU and CPU production. Still running near original estimates so far Also agree with crezno, option 1

I've waited a little to see what other teammembers thoughts would be, because I discussed this a little with Troy before he posted it. I think option 1 is a good option for: 1) Closer races between the teams. 2) Members who had a slow start or had hardware or software failures and other members can make up. 3) Members who under-estimated their reported PPD and encourage/motivate new members (also new to this contest). Just one example on our team is Audiomurphy who reported 12K, but he produces almost 4 times more. He even stayed up late in the night to fix problems on his rig. I would be very happy to give him 30K of my estimated points (even if I would be throttled a little) to show him that his efforts are much appreciated by our team. But I would only do this if he still feels comfortable with the increased reported points. If you want help then will assist you with this, Drougnor, I have enough free time. I also figured out how to calculate the new estimated points for a member who is overproducing: You take the Points and divide it by the Contest Points and then multiply it with the Reported points. This will give you a number that is still 20-24% lower than what this member can produce, so you can add a little ( ~5% ) to make sure that this member will not be throttled. Option 2 could also be a nice addition to this contest, but I will post my thoughts about this option later.

One of my rigs tracker is not getting along with my gtx 260s.I have run evga oc scanner shows both cards as good.Have reinstalled tracker bunch of times.Going to try it with sli off now.Wish me luck.it just did first set of wu's so could be ok I need the 260s to fold or I get no game playing time As for changing the rules I see no reason to. But I would be folding the same no matter.I would just have the gtx 260 rig crunching and still be doing 150k ppd. I will do what ever Drougnor decides on .Any way I look at it I will be folding win lose or draw. And as long as Drougnor will have me on the PIMPS I will fold for this team. Heres a little history,Last year I was folding on a 750i SLI FTW e8400 and 1 gtx 260oc.This year I got 2 ,2600ks both at 4.2 ,2 gtx 470's a little oced 2 gtx 260's.+Last but not least x79ftw3930k oced to 4.4 ,2 gtx 560sc and a power bill I do not like looking at.I can blame most of that on the PIMPS and Madnessssssssssss That is how much fun I had last year on this team!!!!!

Fellow Pimps - just wanted to drop in and let all know I am finally out of my bunker. Ended up with just shy of a foot of wet snow. Thankfully the 10 year old snow blower had enough to get 70% off the driveway. Thankfully we didn't lose power, but I did throttle back some just in the event we did. I'll get to AB's poll and thread tomorrow when I've had some sleep and coffee.

Also, just something to keep in mind, the post says that we "May" be able to change our PPD now and/or during the playoffs. If we change it now, we may not be able to change it in the actual playoffs. Bobc36 for example was under producing original due to issues, however, now that its solved, taking away some of his PPD now may hurt us in the playoffs as he may be producing his expected PPD during the playoffs. From what I can see, contest points are calculated by Reported PPD x 1.2495 x Days folded = Possible Contest Points. Where days folded seems to be calculated many times throughout the day so noon on the 6th day would actually be like 5.5 days. For example. If you report 10,000 PPD, and lets say we are on the end of day 10 to make math easy, you can generate a maximum of 12495 PPD. So if you are actually producing 1000,000 PPD, it is only going to credit you, the adjusted PPD of 12495 x 10 (Days Folded) which will net you 124950 contest points. So currently, people gain contest points up to 24.95% of what their reported PPD was. Having said that, if we wanted to maximize contest points, we would have to calculate it so that over producers are hitting somewhere around or just under the 125% reported PPD limit. So for example, audiomurphy at the time of this post has 406,861 points, which its around noon so it would be day 6.5. So he has an effective average PPD of around 63K i would guess as of today. (He would have a better estimate of PPD since he can see his F@H client) so in order for him to get maximum points based off of reported PPD, we would want to make hits adjusted PPD to be 125% of his reported PPD. So we would want to bump him to about 50.5K reported PPD or so.

I wanted to wait to see what full capacity would look like and after that drop, I gotta say I'm pretty comfortable keeping the spreads just as is for now. I need to adjust my primary folder to get off the beta folding for now, it seems, as well. Really, now, I want to see how long it takes to steam out ahead. *grin*

I got home and decided to pull out the pimp hand on my gear. Everything (except for my wife's/crunching rig) is full tilt. Now I'm forecasting 175k PPD. I just hope the temps stay in line. If they get too warm I'll need to shut down one of the 580's - or stagger them. Or, just open some windows!
