I have a lot of old game disks, they do not take up too much room as the industry moved into the DVD cases quickly
Older CD-ROM games take up more room

One old CD game, Prey, Steam accepted the key so I moved the game to Steam, the disks are now in a shelving unit

Most of my media rack is actually audio compact disks

The last physical copy I bought was the New Wolfenstien because it was just too big and the price was good. Before that, it was the Orange Box. I am stuck at a 3m connection so I just let games download all night and while I'm away at work.

And this gives you something to look forward to when going about the day. I remember being crazy pumped in school when I would be downloading BF3 for the first time or something.

I remember in the days of Napster on 56K. I would download an album of 12 songs and I would be stoked if I got up in the morning and had even half of them. Then came along the no-cd cracks. Finally, no more having to wait and listen to the "REEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW click click HHUMMMMMMMMM!" of the drive!

Jacob has called me old for still having a optical drive..... but I remember sitting there listening to the click and a rough dragging sound for 5+ minutes before seeing  "Please Insert Disk 2 and press ENTER to continue"...... by disk 6 your anticipation was built stupid high for the game and it better pay off!

DL is the way to go, I used to be attached to my hard copies too... but so many patches these days. The ease of Steam and Origin is great. Pretty soon consoles will be the same way...

Funny, I remember years ago when PC games went from BIG BOX to small console type boxes...

Brick and mortar stores are suffering in every market, but software leads the way. Anyone remember Blockbuster Video? LMAO they're gone now I think!

Most of my studff these days are through Steam or GOG these days, gog I don't worry about as much as everything runs locally without issue, but last weekend, I had some internet problems and some of my stuff just wouldn't launch, and others were stuck mid streaming update so I couldn't try to run those either, if I played a SP game and the internet was out, no problem, also I could decide when/if I applied a patch.
Steam/gog/etc definitely does have its advantages, however I like hard copies and no web checking before each launch and the ability to control my installations, downloads, etc.
I can feel a "get off my lawn" coming  :)

Yep. ... I think Netflix stuck a knife in Blockbusters heart but I think Redbox does very well. Smart tvs and bluray players might take those 2 out. Who knows? Its a vicious cycle

Then again, Netflix has the streaming service so maybe they're bulletproof. There will always be people too lazy to walk to their mailbox. Getting back to the op, these hard copies might not be around much longer either.

I have a Blueray drive and my internet is about 600 kB/s while the BD is 25 MB/s so I would prefer to get games on BD media where dual layers can hold 50GB and 3 layers can manage with the bigger titles, one disk to install a game.

Downloading games is up where with watching paint dry
