UPDATE:
recieved the chips but won't be able to get them on the board until the 28th of November since the company is all booked up until then.
Fingers crossed this works out!

UPDATE:
I was wondering if this monster of a board, or any board of that size would fit in the Rosewill RSV L4500 rackmount.
My initial idea is to put my PC and the SR2 (if it works out) inside a rack like this and shove it in a server-rack with a switch etc.
The thing is, they refer to this chassis as being max E-ATX but according to the photo's it looks like it could handle HPTX, any thoughts?
http://www.rosewill.com/r...ct_tabs_Specifications

If the SR2 survives the transplantation and the rack supports it I might want to get this case (since it's cheap for what it is) and mod it a bit to get one or maybe two triple radiators in, a bit like Linus did with his personal rig.
The chassis does not need to hold any drives other then a couple SSD's I'll be able to put somewhere since they don't really take up that much space and because all my main storage like movies etc. go on my NAS.

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome

Nice :D thanks! I wonder if two of these would fit with a little modding at the front:

60.5mm + 38mm 98.5mm + 4mm Grill  might be a tight fit, them fans Will Take a Finger Off if you use them Best have the Guard.
I would look at this Guy;
$84.99 Radiator, 3x120mm Fans, 54mm Thick, 30-FPI Copper The 30 FPI are nice. But Still A really Tight Fit
$66.99 Radiator, 2x120mm Fans, 54mm Thick, 30-FPI Copper  might be just at tight
$59.99 Radiator, 3x120mm 30-FPI Copper  Just under 30mm but still have 30 FPI

This is going to look great when you add the Water Loop.
Can't wait to see the Photos

Cool, yeah if the mobo works then I'm just going for the case and see what I'll be doing afterwards.
Probarly going to modify it anyway to fit some things in and paint the insides because it looks better if you open it up.
But indeed, if the loop works out and the parts that I want to fit in work, then I'm happy as can be!

No worries, there will be photo's and regular updates if the mobo survives the chip replacement :) Which will take place on the 28th of November..fingers crossed!

It would be really Cool if EVGA came out with an SR-3 That would support 4 Graphics Cards at x16 with Two Zeon CPUs.
That Indeed would be my Next Rig. Throw in two 20 Core Zeon's and I am set for life.

If those are the pictures of the case, it wouldn't fit by at least 2 PCIe slots, 3 if you want to put a dual slot card in the bottom slot.

Or they could just leave motherboard manufacturing to grown-ups and we can all live happily ever after.

no need to put something in the bottom slot, if anything it would be a single slot 10GBps card or something, i figured that one out but there is no real need for it since the only reason i would go for this case is to get the board in there and rack it.
I never go for Quadfire/sli so yeah

In which case you are still 2 PCIe slots short. HPTX requires 9 slots of space after the I/O plate and that case only has 7. SR-2 slots are in positions 3-9.

that does indeed makes things complicated but the picture that bcavnaugh posted seems the hold a mobo of the same size but i could be wrong though.
I could however just get the rack none the less for the other PC I have and testfit it with the SR2.
I know from experience that nothing is what it seems in terms of fitting hardware :p

The Motherboard that is inside is listed shown on my 2P Rig and was an ASUS KGPE-D16 Motherboard and is now a SuperMicro MBD-H8DGi-F
Same size Motherboards (EEB (12"x13"))
And in my 4P is a SuperMicro H8QGL-IF Both SuperMicro Motherboards are Useless as a Gaming Computers.

Yeah I know HPTX is something else but I wonder if the actual size matches rather then pci slots since all that matters to me are the first couple pci slots.

EDIT: I know now what people mean by 9pci rather then 7pci.. yeah..(not my picture).

I'm not going to invest superdupermuch in a rack thoug, my inital plan was to stack em up so all my pc's are in one place.
I want to fiddle around with VM's but for now it's just to get my gaming pc's (mine and gf) in servercase to be put in a little serverrack :)
But thanks for the advice!

Re: Pci problems SR-2 2016/11/23 15:26:14 (permalink)
After some more investigation i figured that unmodded server racks are either expensive when they support htpx or just don't support it..
BUT i found this thing:

Which is in stock at it's supplier and doesn't cost more then 80 bucks (without shipping though).
So I could take the plunge for that Rosewill RSVL 4500 chassis since it's cheap for what it is and mod it in a way that I could fit the board, the cooling and the ax1200i.
I guess I need to figure out some serieus stuff..seems like a fun project if i can pull it off.

SR-2 fits in most ATX-XL case with minor modifications.
drill off all HDD/CD holder in front of case and u got room for HPTX.
I rebuilded a new Fractal Design XL to fit my SR-2 on a saturday.
Needed drillmacine and a scewdriver.
Fits 4x 3,5 HDD and some SSD in bottom no CD/dvd.

true but not in a serverrack where there is not even enough room for 1 pci after the 7th slot :p
If i want to get this board into an eatx rackmounted servercase i would either spend a lot of money for a proper case with hotswappable psu's or mod an eatx servercase like the svl 4500 and mod the insides to place the psu somewhere else.

Yes, eatx rackmounted servercase is probably to small to rebuild for SR-2.
An old big 6u 19"servercase and rebuild  ?
Plenty of room for a lot of Powersupplys and Gpus.

A 4U could be a tight fit but managble, I've been looking on ebay for 5u and 6u cases but never found one that goes with what I'm trying to do

The number of Us is only about height. What you need is _width_. I am not aware of _any_ rack mount case that will take a HPTX board.

Supermicro X8DTH-6, 2x X5690
Crucial 12x 8GB x4 DR 1.35V DDR3-1600 ECC RDIMMs (96GB)

I know..? I just need a 4U to fit the things take take up space in matter of height such as gpu's with a bigger pcb then stock cards. I am aware that standard rackcases don' take hptx, that' why i want to mod a cheap 4u servercase.

I have a 4u Protools 19" Expansion rack 13pci-card  at home.
HPTX will fit. but not 2-3 Powersupplys and a lot of Graphiccards.
A very deep 19" rack 4u with modifications can handle the powersupplys and GPUs.
