Hello friends. I bought a EVGA GTX 970 some time ago and I've had enough trouble of whine coil and crashes in my games. My PSU is a EVGA SuperNova NEX750B, and she's with coil whine hence my video card was also with coil whine, besides my HD after a while presenting coil whine too. Do you think my power supply may be causing all this trouble? because she's with coil whine, my video card was also and then after a while my HD began to get. Sera should I do RMA my power supply or my GTX 970?
Many people say that coil whine just a noise that disturbs, but I can prove that I have had performance problems in my games due to whine coil. Battlefield 4 in ultra is unplayable, crashing every second, the FPS is high, average 90-100 fps, and suddenly drops to 50, 40, and just when the fps drops the coil whine is even more strange noise, it appears that increases...

Hmm well can you try your PSU or GPU separately in a different system or vise versa.. ie another PSU or GPU in your current system?

Many crashes, in the games, fps have sudden drops, in battlefield 4 for example, maintains an average 80-90 frames, and suddenly plummets to 50, 40 frames per second (this happens every 10 and 15 seconds). To be honest, when I bought this video card the frames were on average 90 to 100 fps (In battlefield 4 for example, in full HD, 144Hz and ultra quality) and now after some time of coil whine the average dropped to 65 to 80 frames. The strange thing is that when the fps drops the game hangs completely for seconds, sometimes hangs for one second, sometimes for 2 seconds, and as mentioned above this occurs every 10 to 15 seconds, especially in heavier scenarios of the game. When these crashes happen, the coil whine coming from the video card looks like increases, it makes different noises, and my power supply also. Do you think the coil whine coming from my video card may be related to my power supply? because he too is with coil whine from when I bought. I forgot to also say that I had problem with blue screen, and sometimes when I turn on my computer no signal is found, everything is black, and the "BIP" (That noise when we turn on the computer) is not triggered, and the computer only the signal when I turn off the power supply and wait a few minutes. This is my SETUP! Video Card: EVGA GTX 970 (SC) ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 Monitor: BENQ XL2420Z 24 "144Hz Processor: Intel Core i5 4670k - 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Water Cooler: Corsair H80i Motherboard: ASUS Z87-Plus Memory: 16GB (4x4) Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz Pro series RED Power Supply: EVGA NEX750b Fans: 4x 120mm Cooler master xtraflo HD: 1tb 6gbs 720rpm Barracuda Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 Cm Black

If you have a spare power supply you may want to try it to see if the coil whine on everything else gets better and or the crashes go away. Bad power sources can cause stability problems. Coil whine will not cause stability problems, but sometimes failing/failed capacitors can squeal and sound similar to coil whine but different at the same time, that may be that "even more strange noise" you are hearing. The fact that it ran fine at first leads me to believe something is degrading, in which case its more common to see a psu degrade, video cards tend to just outright fail.

I'll get a power supply borrowed from a friend of mine to do a test, and we'll see what will happen, it is quite likely that the problem does not go away because I have done the test in my video card in another power supply (Corsair GS600) and the coil whine continued still going, but now I get other power supply with different characteristics to make another test. The power supply of my friend is a Cooler Master G750m and it has a single 12V line (I heard that power supplies have multiple 12V lines can cause instability with video cards, and cause coil whine too, my EVGA SuperNova NEX750B has 4 12V lines if I remember correctly) but let's test to see what will happen.
But my fear is that this coil whine harm the performance of my video card, because as I said coil whine has made my game crashes a lot, in addition to making the frames fall sharply ):

When you tested the video card with the other power supply did it still crash in games? As someone that has studied electrical engineering coil whine by itself is harmless. Correlation does not imply causation. You mentioned that the noise changes, coil whine tends to only change its volume so what you are hearing may be capacitors squealing or the coils reaction to some power anomaly that can be from the power supply or some other part of the video card's voltage regulation/conditioning. Coil whine tends to only happen under a high load, so that high load can be leading to a failure with some other component. Also, multi-rail power supplies can become a problem if you don't balance the load across all the rails somewhat evenly. If you just plug everything in and don't pay attention you may end up putting to much on a single rail while leaving others unused and that can cause some issues because you might end up overloading the rail. Any quality power supply will not cause coil whine, the number of rails has nothing to do with coil whine in the video card, it matters that the video card gets clean power.

When idling inside the game and monitoring your FPS does the FPS drop/game hang while just sitting still inside the game not moving around? Do you remember what the BSOD info was? If not, you can use BlueScreenView to get the BSOD info. What is the BSOD description and STOP code?

Yes, unfortunately, I did the test in a power supply Corsair GS600 after I realized that using my NEX750B caused coil whine on the video card, however I did this test so I bought the video card and she had no crashes only coil whine, and after a certain time using the video card with my NEX750B the crashes started happening, in addition to blue screen and reboot the computer suddenly. So you think beyond the coil whine my power supply can be with anomaly regarding the deployment of electrical energy to the Components from my computer? You said I possibly made a poor distribution in the power supply rails, I could not understand it, why not understand much about it, I just put the cables on the power supply and put on my video card. Is there any way to distribute power properly on rails?

Yeah man! the BSOD description is exactly that: irql_not_less_or_equal (Most of the time I had blue screen was this error) Already had this error also: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, this error is related to memory ram defective, but I already did several tests using Windows, I also used memtest86 and resulted in no error in the ram. The memories are new, have 2133MHz (In XPM profile on motherboard) I do not remember the exact STOP code, and I have no way to know because my computer was recently formatted ):

So your game hangs & has FPS drops just idling inside the game? When running memtest did you test each stick individually? If not, you need to redo the test. Defective RAM/Incorrectly set RAM frequency, timings & voltage is causing that BSOD. Setup your RAM manually inside the BIOS for correct operation. The frequency, timings & voltage set inside the BIOS should match the JEDEC stickers on the sides of your RAM modules.

First I would investigate the memory as Sajin suggested. Its not normally to hard determine if one of your memory sticks is bad or not. It could be your problem and even if its not that's one less part to worry about. A lot of gtx 970 do have coil and do not crash. Coil whine has been a problem for all 970/980's. It the noise did not get better when you tested it with a different power supply then chances are you just ended up with a loud card, if its really bad evga will rma it, but if you do the next one may be just as loud. As far as the power supply goes looking at the evga manual you really can't distribute the power poorly and even if you did one rail can handle 20 amps, which is more then enough for a gtx 970 even if both cables are from a single rail. If you had something like 240 watt video card(780ti is about 250 watts) you would want to use cables from different rails because that card is looking for 20 amps total, using two different rails will allow you to draw 20 amps per cable because they are on separate rails, if they were on the same rail you would only be able to draw 20 amps from both cables combined. Also note that with your power supply, its 20 amps per rail, but you can not draw more then 61 amps from all four rails at the same time. Gtx 970 doesn't even draw 15 amps at base clock speeds, even with overclocking your not going to get up near 20 amps. Just because you are hearing a high pitch whine doesn't always mean its coil whine. Other components that are inside your power supply can make similar sounds. Given that this sounds was also present with a different power supply I would bet that its the video card making noise.

Yes, only in games. No, I did not do the test using stick by stick, but as you said, I'll do it to see if I can find any errors in some memory individually. and the irql_not_less_or_equal error? what might be causing? say may be related to some new hardware installed on the computer, it was my gtx 970. and about when I turn on my computer and no sign appears on the screen? what might be causing this? ram memory?

Check your CPU temps you may be overheating, this would cause the FPS to go up and down while inside the game, it could even cause the system to freeze/hang. The irql_not_less_or_equal error is being caused most likely by defective ram/incorrectly set ram frequency, timings & voltage inside the BIOS. No sign on screen could indicate a GPU issue but could also mean other components have issues as well.

aah yes, I do not understand very well what you said about the distribution of amps, I am a layman in this subject, I just picked up the modular cables that come with the power supply and plugged in video card. This cable has one entry with 6-pin and one 6 + 2 totaling 8 pins. The source is not fully modular, beyond this modular cable still have yet another cable that comes already connected directly to the power supply, and has the same 6-pin and one 6 + 2-pin, has a difference? Have a look at the way that the cables are connected to my power supply: goo.gl/HTMEou

oh yeah man, you're right, I'll give a checked to see if it can be the temperature of the CPU. I find it very strange to be ram frequency and timings, my motherboard supports up to 3000MHz frequency (in XMP profile) and my memory defaults are 2133MHz, I just activated the XMP on my motherboard and then I configured it to accept 2133MHz , which is the default frequency of my memory ram, but I'll give a checked to see if when I do it my motherboard will automatically change the timings wrongly.
