Hi all,

I'm looking to move my entire operation to a SSD and wanted to know what type I should be looking for.  I notice the PCIe versions are much more powerful, but I know that the FTW mobo doesn't support 2x16.  My understanding is that once 2 PCIe devices are connected, one of the devices will only run at 8x.

My question is will the 8x speed for the SSD significantly slow the benchmarks/capability?  Will doing this negatively effect my GTX980 or otherwise bottleneck it on the 16x channel?

Thanks for the help all.  This community is the best and a primary reason that I always purchase EVGA products.

Most if the PCIe SSD's I have seen run at 8x so that is fine. The problem is if you have your PCIe SSD plugged in to PCIe slot 2, it will set both PCIe slots 1 and 2 to 8x. I wouldn't really want my GTX 980 to be running at 8x. Maybe you can run some test to see how much it hinders performance. The remaining slots run at 4x and 1x which does you no good (according to the manual).

On the PCIe bus, I have heard that even with gtx 980's the difference in gaming between x8 and x16 is negligible... See this link that was posted on the forums here before too:

Its just something to consider... It also may change in the future, but I think we are years from that and would be doing something beyond 4k gaming...
