Agreed.  And meanwhile Kingpin has his hands on one...

Dual eSATA. I can' believe that, really. However, it still has only 2 USB 3.0 ports on the rear, which means it's not a Maximius 4 or UD7 in the end, but rather a class lower.

On the other hand, EVGA has been known to be rather conservative with all these additional controllers on their boards. I tend to think that this is related to certain bandwidth considerations, aka you can't plug in an infinite number of controllers into a low-bandwidth chipset which P67 definitely is when compared to the X58 or higher. lephron  definitely has something to say here, I'd love to know his opinion on the subject.

Most likely they will try and bundle or get more people to by their USB 3.0 Card.

Hmmm what's the difference? I think that installing a controller on board is way easier and brings the same profit to EVGA. So that's a design decision I'd say, well, is the P67 platform so bandwidth-limited actually? They say "5GT/s" for the P67 CPUs as opposed to "2.5GT/s" for the older P55 socket CPUs.

Re:wait for P67 Classified? 2011/04/04 19:11:30 (permalink)
Long time reader, first time writer.  Forgive the rambling.

I, personally, am waiting for EVGA's offering.  This may sound crazy to the newest-tech-available-omg-I-can't-afford-to-wait-this-long crowd.  But I am from the omg-I-absolutely-can-afford-to-wait-this-long crowd.  The reason I can afford to wait this long is that EVGA fits a niche that is, as far as I can tell, not fit by anyone else in the computer industry--they seem to take care of their customers!  Asus seems to have some nice boards out there, but I've had an Asus board before.  Long ago, I also could have been cast as a member of the newest-tech-available-omg-I-can't-afford-to-wait-this-long crowd.  Those were the days of working for the man and making money--the days before graduate school.  I, in fact, purchased and still have an Asus Striker Extreme.  Oh the hype!  Oh the humanity!  Oh the $1000 qx6700 cursing me from below!  The hundreds of dollars for a buggy crocodile wrestling match.  The BIOS flash snafu which left me waiting on hold for extended periods of time for the pleasure of buying a $5 chip plus $20 shipping.  The victory of the board swallowing the new BIOS and the agony of the new BIOS swallowing a stick of Dominator (to catch the fly, I presume).  The mildly disappointing radical blue LCD boot poster on the back that never posted anything but was Extreme-ly blue.

I saw that Maximus IV and it smacks so hard of that godforsaken striker extreme that I almost vomited.  All those bells.  All those whistles.  It's only a lot more expensive but it is clearly the best one.  It's sold out so often how could it not be the best!?

Who needs good customer support when you have the RADDEST THING OUT THERE?  I do.  I give you $300, you give me something that works and continues to work.  That's the deal.  I'm waiting for EVGA because, even after purchasing a used 8800 gtx, they provided me with quite a bit of prompt, friendly, methodical support--and after an easy-bake (or two) it (usually) works.  I purchased a used EVGA product and got 10 million times better support than I got for my new Asus product.

The asus board might be the best thing out now--but what happens when I want to get their slick new UEFI skin and my BIOS flash dies and I get to wait for 45 minutes for the pleasure of talking to Miranda and Miranda's Manager so that they can both assure me that I should most certainly have to pay shipping both ways?  The Gigabyte at least has a 2nd BIOS, but no UEFI (yet).  And both lack the most important feature to those not upgrading every 6 months--neither of them are going to have an AR or A1 part number and the resultant lifetime warranty.

I realize that on enthusiast forums this "longevity" and "service" mumbojumbo may seem to be a minority opinion, but there does exist the occasional consumer who makes $20k a year and still wants nice things and when they spend money on those nice things it's pretty important to them (and their ability to buy food) that those nice things last.

And last but not least, neither the Asus nor the Gigabyte come with YOU--the occasionally shortsighted but incredibly informative members of the EVGA forums.

So, anyway--sign me up for an EVGA GTX 570 and whatever P67 board comes with a lifetime warranty and talk to me in 5/10 years when I either graduate (cross your fingers) or get bored of shooting you in the face in Team Fortress 2 (don't hold your breath).

Yes, your processor will be new, since the X58 uses the LGA 1366, whereas this board will use LGA1155. The RAM will still be DDR3.

I think Jacob should release the specs for the FTW.  If for no other reason than to give people reason to not buy something else.

Hell, just release the mobo on Tuesday and we won't buy another mobo.   Personally, I'm still holding out hope for the board to be released this week, that way I can include it the build I'm doing Saturday.  Unfortunately, the build has to happen on the 16th, so that's where I'm stuck.  Come EVGA, I'm pulling for ya, and me.

EVGA P67 pictured 2011/04/11 15:27:35 (permalink)
Well here is an image of the long awaited EVGA P67 FTW, looks like right angled 24 pin (as promised), red and black color scheme, 2 SATA 6Gbit/s, 4 SATA 3GBit/s, sweet looking passive coolers, Note that it is lacking the compact flash that was promised in the Classified (Jacob said the FTW = Classified except in name). While we still don't have a ship date, Jacob ignored my "tweet" about it...I can say that he said before/on (as of 2 weeks ago) the 20th of April. As for the P67 SLI we have little information on it other than what EVGA has provided here, I think we should look for some sort of announcement about the FTW/SLI in the next few days (by which I mean in the next 7 days) and release soon after. Anyway other than a few little changes it looks a lot like the Classified we were shown several months back.

I've gotten a little information via the rumor mill. Reading between the lines it looks like the micro and/or the SLI will be released in April and the FTW will not be out until May.

Artic,
Still bumbed that it won't be a classified board, I have the 780ftw and when I got it just past the 90 day mark the 790's came out but I have been holding strong for this board. I just ordered the 2600k CPU on egg for $299.00 free shipping, and got some awesome memory two months ago. I hope we will be able to get chipset waterblocks for it. Thanks for your post I follow it every day!

If this turns out to be true, I "tweeted" Jacob about it and now I'm just waiting for a response, I will (most likely) go with another manufacturer. 4 months delay from the original announcement of the P67 line up is just...
