The P67 FTW has 2x8-pin and I realized that my PSU only has 1x8-pin power connector and you can't use a 6+2 to make an 8-pin. So what do I do? A PSU that has 2x8-pin runs in the many hundreds of dollars, I could make a 2x6-pin into a 8-pin but that would void warranty on my PSU. Another question is why does EVGA feel its necessary to have 2x8-pin on this mobo? The Asus Maximus IV Extreme only has one, and it costs $100 more.

Its not required, it is optional and really only needed in the most extreme situations.

how "extreme" are we talking? Thanks Jacob, I should've thought of that but I guess I'm too tired
off topic: who should I blame Corsair for being so useless as to not include two 8-pin connectors or EVGA for providing a platform for stable OC's?

I never even noticed it had the two 8 pins up there...

I'm with A_E, what kind of setup would require it?

Thanks for jumping on that right away Jacob.

I'm guessing a setup that's going above 5.5Ghz, but that's just a guess :p

You can use this cable for the 2nd 8-pin connection.  I have it from when i was using a MSI BigBang X-Power.

The 2nd 8-pin is optional and is not needed. You will not need to use it except for extreme benching using DICE/LN2.

You will see practically no performance difference with and without. Don't worry about just using one EPS. Only high end PSUs include two EPS plugs.

One 8-pin is plenty unless you are doing "EXTREME" Oc'ing like Blizzie just stated.

Just to give you an idea about the i7 2600k wattage requirements when overclocking:
I just did some research and it looks like it takes less than 100 watts on the 2600k for a 4.5Ghz O'clock and the 8 pin plug delivers over 300 watts so as you can see arctic eagle you can rest easy knowing that one 8 pin plug will do you just fine

My Antec HCP 1200 has two EPS plugs, but this is the first Power Supply I've had that has 2.

Re:P67 FTW problem 2011/06/06 08:35:53 (permalink) ☄ Helpful
I would go with this cable http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812887002&cm_re=4_pin_molex_to_8_pin-_-12-887-002-_-Product  the 1 e-money linked read ok but the pictures did not match the description nor was it using 2 power sources of 4 pins to 8 pins.  Could be the single 4 pin would be split and is all that is required, but the pictures need to be check on the mfgs web site.
