Hey guys,
Thanks for taking the time to read this.  Just had some quick question about memory latency.  So far I understand that the lower the number the "faster" the information is delivered.  Is there anything else I should understand about this?
This is the memory that I have
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-Memory+(Desktop+Memory)-_-Corsair+(XMS+Series)-_-20145224
It's 8-8-8-24.
So far, in my BIOS, I have it set to 8-8-8-20...Will this affect my system in anyway?  It seems to run smoothly.
My second question is:  Can I "overclock" or whatever the term is for it to say "7-7-7-20"?  Will this mess up my system?

If you are running 8-8-8-20 timings at 1600MHz then, that is a little better and faster than the rated spex of 8-8-8-24 at 1600MHz...which is kool.

OC'ing the RAM is all about running it faster than rated speed. However; that faster you run it, the more you are required to "loosen" the timings. For example...8-8-8-24 @ 1600MHz is the rated speed and timings. If you want to try OC'ing it...say to 1800MHz, you will have to loosen the timings to maybe 9-9-9-24.

Now, the slower you run the speed then, the "tighter" you can run the timings. For example, if you were to under-clock the RAM to 1500MHz, you may be able to to "tighten" the timings to 7-7-7-20.

So; the bottom line is this..........the faster you run the speed, the slower you have to run the timings and the slower you run the speed, the faster you can run the timings.

Wow, although it almost seems backward and I can't really get my head around it - maybe I can try overclocking my 1333 rated G.Skill RAM to 1600 by .. loosen-ing (is that a word?) my timings?

Will try this weekend! Although last time I tried o/cing my ram to 1600 - I had to completely reinstall my Windows for some reason : \ Wouldn't post, and I didn't even overclock it that much : (

Will read that link you posted during downtime here at work tonight.

It didn't post because you had some settings wrong. There probably was no need to have to reinstall Windows because of that. All you had to do was go back into the BIOS and readjust your settings.
