Hi. Been quite some time since I posted here. Issues overclocking. I have two of the same GTX680 video cards, the 04G-P4-2686KR versions. Cant seem to get core above 1175mhz on either card. Using PrecisionX 5.3.8 and latest video driver (372.90), the best I can get is 1175mhz on the core (+105) and 1824mhz on the memory (+651). I can bump memory higher, but not core. Even if I put memory back at stock speed. It doesnt matter if I set the GPU Core Offset higher than +105, the core wont go any higher than 1175mhz. I have tried with Power Target set to 138 (max) and Overvoltage set to max. Both cards are water cooled with HeatKiller blocks and temps dont get above 50C. Both cards seem strong as they will both clock to 1175mhz/1824mhz in SLI on the RIVF. I have also tried to get above 1175mhz on an X58 i7-930 machine with no luck. Do I need different firmware or need to flash to a different BIOS? PC specs are as below.
CPU: i7-3930K at 4700mhz
MOBO: Asus RIVF BIOS 4403 (Yes there is newer BIOS, but I found 4403 overclocks more stable than newer)
MEM: Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR-2400 at 2197mhz
SSD: Corsair Neutron 240GB
VIDEO: EVGA GTX60 04G-P4-2686KR
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
EDIT: Just thought I would throw in this tidbit. To those still rocking X58 - ROCK ON! It is still a very formidable gaming platform, and capable of running the baddest video cards out there. I benched my i7-3930K against my i7-930 with Heaven and Battlefield 4 (both running same GTX680). With CPU clocks relatively the same (4000mhz-3930K(6 core) 16GB Mem, 4200mhz-930(4 core) 6GB Mem), both produced the same results, with the 3930K no more than 10 points more (1080 res.).
Most any X58 i7-9xx will run at 4200mhz easily and safely. Any I have messed with have, 920,930, 950. It may be only PCI-E 2.0, but good luck even saturating that with the latest 3.0 card on a new board. Keep the X58 platform and spend your loot on a GTX1080 or better.
