OK... I agree... and that makes three to two vote... Let's shut down the name gathering and get the Google voting going...

Someone needs to make a post in the Folding and General forums announcing the need for voters.

I will close my thread that only had one response in Folding...

Classic class of Vault Team name, compared to actual DC team name is Ars

Vault Team Name: Ars Technica
Most DC project name is Ars Technica, but they had other DC team names. Basically they merged to teams into one.

You guys are more than welcome to ask for whatever you want. May I ask you elect a person to communicate with me and the Vault, I get a bloody lot of emails, sometimes 6 different members of the same team. It's a pain. But I am equally happy if you want to all email me. :)

I would also like to point out, I am very open to adding new projects to the Vault collection. Just pop by the forum and make sure it fits the rules and get a convo going.

Happy crunching.

We did get a reply from SNURK

I have a question for SNURK or any other wise cruncher.  If our team name changes, will SNURK need to manually make a change to make our sigs reflect that change?  We are considering a team name change but don't want to add a bunch of unnecessary work to what SNURK is already doing.  I'm hoping the team name is pulled automatically based on member number, so even if you changed teams it would be automatic, but I wanted to check.

Hi Punchy,
You can change your member name, team name or switch to another team or country without any manual intervention from me.

So what I take from that is our account number is the master of everything... Not the names and such

I wonder if Shane could add a little box under the avatars for "Crunching: xyz" and pull the points from one of the sites that aggregates BOINC stats across projects.

I think we should make his job easier by pointing him to a single site, and propose adding the "Crunching: xyz" row. Is there a site that works better than others? Faster, easier to communicate, etc?

Just my thoughts...

I love this idea and I bet most have had it on their minds... But I must express my thoughts of...

Let's get the team name and Captain(s) under control first...

Then I think EVGA will feel more comfortable looking at this. We need to be sign sealed and delivered before I feel comfortable asking EVGA for anything.

Please do not let this sound like I am trying to control anything or burst any bubble... But I think we must control the steps in order for us to have success.

I see it like this...
  • Assemble great members (So far so good!!!!)
  • Find a name
  • Find Captain(s)
  • More members (Like above)
  • Get involved in world contests
  • More and more members
  • Approach EVGA with the Avatar box Idea...
  • ETC

YMMV and ideas may follow a different path. Nothing wrong with that and I will support everyone in the quest to build this portion of our team! I am just trying to be a voice of reasoning...

No problem, I wasn't thinking about that as a near-term thing anyway.  However, it doesn't hurt to plant the seed now, given how long it can take to get changes implemented on a corporate web site.

Looks like we are all on the same page.. Planning ahead is as important as anything... Let's keep doing that...

Speaking of which... I suggest that we shut down the Voting tonight. It is clear there are two strong, two almost as strong and two medium, the rest are week to zero...

I say we call it good tonight and fire up the full monty of four to five of those top vote getters and hammer it out...

If we see as fast of a response as we have so far from member's folding and or Crunching as we have on the first wave of votes...

I will propose the same idea... 24-48 hours max for voting... What wins wins... Then we go into the Holiday with our name set and start looking for Captain(s) and contests to have a go at!!

No doubt there is going to be growing pains... and the first step is to figure out what direction we take as a team.  I'm with AB on this one.  Names to me are just that... an identification.  It's who the name represents that's important to me.  I don't care if we call it something really weird or something straight forward.  Call it, move on.

OK Punchy... Lets shut down the Stage one and get to Stage Two

Gotcha - Stage 1 voting closes at 5PM Pacific, and Stage 2 will open shortly after that, with the top 4-5 choices available in a one-vote-per-person finale.

I wonder if Shane could add a little box under the avatars for "Crunching: xyz" and pull the points from one of the sites that aggregates BOINC stats across projects.

It could be done by a query requesting an XML response with the necessary information using the CPID (cross-project identifier) of the user. The user would enter their CPID into the profile setup form on this site. Then once a day or on another interval, a script could run that would query for all users where CPID is not null. The script would then parse out the XML, grab the total points, and store the values in a database table. The website could then query the table for the point value of each user to display below the Avatar.

Here is some more information:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/StatsXml

The CPID can be found on any project account information page that the user is joined with.

I was looking at this the other day with an eye towards being able to do our own dynamic signatures and/or stats for internal contests.  I was able to pull up stats for a Rosetta user no problem given their examples.  However, I was not able to find the equivalent server/URL for WCG.  I also don't know if this approach works on cross-project statistics - something that could encompass more than just WCG or Rosetta or SETI or xyz one at a time, which is what that query seemed intended for.

WCG should show up in the XML user stats provided the user E-mail address matches the E-mail address associated with the CPID. All the projects a user is joined with that have the same E-mail address should fall under the same CPID. For example, when I pull up my user stats, I get my overall stats followed by a breakdown of all projects that fall under my E-mail address. This includes team stats if applicable. Here is what shows up for WCG:

Hi Rusty,
The vote is still going on.  I suspect tonight or tomorrow we will know for sure.  I'm sure there will be a new thread when the vote is closed.  We'll make sure one of the new captains sends you a PM.
Thanks for checking in!
