Just built the following machine (see below) and feeling heartsick. It doesn't play 4K or any better than my Dell Inspiron 570 with upgraded Phenom II 945 CPU and GTX 750 Ti with 8GB of RAM. Hesitates and jerks along. Windows performance monitor shows it only using 3GB of RAM and 14% of the CPU. I know other people are playing/editing 4K with this same setup. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Well, EVGA removed the link to my build. Thanks a lot. Yep. Posted my proposed build in at least 4 hardware forums and all the comments were that it should be okay. Now that I'm posting that the video is choppy, everybody is all "OMG! Why did you buy such an underpowered GPU?"

Yeah, a 960 really isn't capable at 4k. You MIGHT be able to run 1440 with it on low settings, if you don't mind low frame rates. 1080 is about the best you can expect from a 960.

A 960 can NOT run 4k. I got a 960 from an rma and tried to run it on my 4k monitor that is usually powered by 3 Titan x. It absolutely can not do 4k. Those other hardware sites were wrong. If you want to run 4k get a 980 or better.

EVAG also advertises the 960 as 4K capable so I'm a pretty unhappy camper right now. Just got a post from someone in the forum of the 4K camera I'm using with the same setup as mine and they say 4K runs just fine for them. Really at a loss here. Just this second got a post from EVGA support (Question was, did I underbuy?) suggesting it's a driver issue. I guess they're expecting it to work.

You will be able to run 4k on the desktop just fine. Gaming is another story.

It is physically capable of running 4k.have fun running 4k smoothly.

A 960 should be able to run a monitor with 4K resolution and play 4K videos. But like Sajin said, playing games in 4K is a different story.
Are you just trying to play/edit 4K videos? Or are you also trying to play games in 4K?

I would think 16 gigs of ram would be the bare minimum to edit 4k video... As far as the graphics card goes, this is quoted from a faq for a Hero4 about 4k but I would assume it would still apply... Same problem after reinstalling the drivers. Called EVGA support and they said use VLC instead of QuickTime. Problem solved. My heart is beating again.

Good call. You know, I looked at their list months ago but I guess I forgot about it by the time I started specing the system. I would have definitely gotten the 970 instead. Good thing the 960 seems to be working okay. If I have any problems I'll just sell the 960 on ebay and move up. BTW, the video editor I use doesn't use much RAM. I was advised on that forum multiple times to not waste the money on the 32GB I had originally proposed.

Sell? NO! Use the step up feature.. You only pay the exact difference from what you paid to get the 960 (minus shipping) and the 970's cost (and then add shipping, I think).. It's a legit deal. Don't lose money on eBay to move to the 970.

I actually already had VLC but QuickTime had played all my 1080 videos fine so it was what I tried for the 4K. Didn't know it was lacking.

I'm assuming it's because I didn't register the product until after the 14 day limit, which I didn't know about. If that's the issue then I still have 47 days to get an extended warranty and do the program. Although the other two hard dates on the page almost make it sound like that deal is over.

The only reason the 960 isn't on that list is because it didn't exist at the time that the list was compiled (The first 3 900 series cards were the 970, 980, and the new Titan, there was no 960, 950, or 980ti, which are all excluded from that list).

If your unhappy with the performance do a step up to a faster card within 90 days of the purchase date. There is software out there u can run at 4k with that card. Everything is program/game dependent relative to performance achieved.
