Not a submission, but I could take top single card WITHOUT Physx on, the way the bench was meant to run ;)

Dentlord what are you running for cooling? That is a fantastic score. I am only on water.
Untill Mods Rigs changes this thread will continue to run with PhysX on. If Mods Rigs goes to High or Extreme then this thread will also change.

That is ln2, just showing what these gpu's are capable of at the limits.

Im so happy that the green team had a strong showing after the 5xxx ATI cards, I was worried there with all the negative talk pre-release.

Updated score, with link this time. I thought the screen shot would be better than the link, but evidently not.

Anyway, bumped up my gpu overclock a bit more, cpu clock stayed the same with just some voltage tweaking. I'm actually happy now because I've finally matched my dual 295 score, even though it took a LOT more cpu power to do it.

iride,

Sorry to post again so soon, but I bumped up the gpu voltage and clocks, and was able to squeeze out a few more points. Oddly enough though, it didn't really change my overall score much, so I think I'm pretty much tapped out on the gpu end of things.

{shakes fist at 980X owners}

You guys are gonna cost me some money. Nice scores!

No joke looks like Im going to have to make the switch to this...and in saying that...It kinda and I say that word without be flammed after saying it, but it kinda bugs me that I have higher clocks on the 480 yet my placement in this thread is determined in the end by how much better mine or someone elses CPU is. For instance, awalleyeguy, not calling you out, just using you as an example kindly...

His clocks are lower on his card than on mine, yet in vantage his GPU scores are a little higher than mine. How can this be? Im going to assume its the CPU helping that out a little bit? Can someone clarify this for me? It just doesnt make sense to me that my scores on the GPU side of this are lower with a higher clock.

The highest clocks do not always meen higher scores. For a long time I was in the top 2 or 3 with my 295+s but my clocks were 100 points lower that some of the people around me. Currently I think that I have over done my clocks and that I could get a better score with lower clocks I will try this week when the temps go down.

So im still wondering this question though...

WHY in vantage does a higher clock on a GPU have results LOWER than someone with lower clocks that have are getting higher scores? What causes this? Just doesnt make sense. One would think, "Hey, I need to OC to higher clocks to get better scores".

Isn't that how it usually works? If not, why do I overclock?

I honestly do not know, but this is why when I set up a benching sesition I will bench for over an hour. I will eather see a High first run and a higher second or it will jump 300 to 500 points with out me doing anything.

SimC33 So im still wondering this question though...

GPU clock speed is only one very small part of the equation. It's the whole entire package that gives you a good score. Higher cpu speed will definitely give you better gpu performance, no question. Thing is, just increasing cpu clock speed won't necessarily give you a higher score because that new overclock needs to be stable, and set up with the correct voltages to support that particular overclock, so increasing clock speed and cranking up Vcore won't always give you what you're looking for. Without giving too much away, there are certain voltages in the BIOS that directly affect gpu performance, and need to be adjusted with every overclock change.

All of this being said, gpu voltage also makes a difference, and so does the performance of your particular hardware. There is a bit of a performance variance from gpu to gpu, so just because two gpu's are clocked to say 700MHz, doesn't mean they will both produce the same performance. This part is just luck of the draw, assuming all other parameters are identical, of course.

So, as you can see, there is a lot more to this than just popping in some numbers and throwing a party for the highest score. When it comes to the level of "competition", if you will, that we are at, things start to get really tight, and it takes a lot of time and patience to sometimes just gain 50 points. Hope this helps a bit.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention something. In addition to clock speeds, temperature also makes a huge difference. Keeping these cards cool is key, and a cooler running card is like having a higher overclock, so you have to factor this in also.
