Could you guys with 780 Classifieds and back plates tell me if the back plate touches any components for cooling? Or is it purely aesthetic? EK vs EVGA backplates? I have 4x EK blocks inbound for 780Ti Classifieds.

Quick question, guys...the stickers on the PCB of the card - are we meant to leave them there?  I just installed my backplate, and am now wondering if I should have peeled the stickers off first.  Also, what do they actually denote?  oxitopeluxe posted some pics of the same stickers above - obviously the BIOS one tells me the BIOS on the card, but what about the one at the top?

Still waiting for my replacement mobo, and in the meantime I thought I may as well do some digging on what my card is.

Hey!
I am currently owner of a GTX 780 Classified (Running 1300/1800 @Air). I am thinking about taking part in EVGA Stepup to GTX 780 TI.
Do you think this would make sense?

Thanx

There is a tangible performance increase, but it depends on your set-up and resolution.  For me, it wouldn't be worth it as I game at 1080p.  But otherwise there are gains to be had, howevere like anything it all depends whether you judge the improvements to be worth the additional cost.  I guess if you paid a lot for the Classy (and the Ti is a similar price) it might be worth it!  But then again you could always wait for the Ti Classified...

Anyway, have a little look at this for a rough comparison:

If the Stepup would include a stepup to the TI Classified if it's available - I'd do that IMMEDIATELY.

This is as unrelated as it is related.

I'm running an old stock i7 920 and single 2gb GTX 285 rig that's finally starting to crap out on me. Building a new rig within the next year. I was thinking of picking up a GTX 780 Classified ACX, but then the Ti was released. Is it worth the extra $200-300 or would the regular 780 suit me just fine?

I'll be using a single monitor for gaming at 1080P. I have absolutely no intentions of ever adding a second card for SLI at any point but I MIGHT add a second monitor to use for web browsing or messaging while gaming / watching a movie eventually; though this is unlikely.

I'm more or less settled on some form of GTX 780 / 780 Ti so what would you all recommend? I know the Ti has been out performing even the Titan, but does that justify the extra hundreds of dollars over a regular 780?

Believe me worth 200$ for Ti Classified even on 1920x1080.
You will see, you will need Ti for MSAA in some games don't even to talk about last Assassins Creed and games in 2014.
Not only Assassins Creed, Metro, Crysis 3, even Sniper Elite V2 you can't play with complete filters on GTX780. Exactly that 15-20% power need.
Push as much possible advantage you can get, because you will need, even more than reference Ti, go with 780Ti on custom board and you will not sorry.

Unless you are planning on a 120/144Hz monitor for your build, I'm going to stick my neck out and say 'no' here.

At 1080p one Classified with a reasonable OC will make mincemeat of virtually any game.  There are some exceptions where you may have to adjust MSAA etc to retain excellent fps, but not many.  I guess it depends if you can live with not always have everything at the best possible setting, or possibly not having everything running at 60fps permanently.  Have a look on YouTube etc for the kind of framerates people are getting on BF4 etc.  Way over the 60 figure.  And unless you play at higher refresh rates (or higher resolutions) any extra power is just wasted.

My personal choice would be to spend that extra money on something like a quality mouse and keyboard, or even put it away for a future upgrade.  Maybe skip the Ti and see what the 8-series bring to the table next year?

I am almost in the same position as you; have a pair of 780 Classifieds, and considered changing them to Ti SCs instead.  I game at 1080p on a 120Hz monitor (or I will, when my replacement mobo arrives and I finally finish my build!!) and it seems the extra performance the Tis would bring would go un-noticed as I'll already be bouncing off the 120fps limiter.

However, I'm going to caveat this entire post by saying I don't have a gaming PC, have never owned a PC and therefore am just basing my option on my own research!

How did you confirm this?

Was it using the Nvidia inspector? Because I thought all of mine where Hynix, but the inspector tells me they are all Samsung, which I'm skeptical off.

Although they are currently pumping away at +650mhz without issue...

Re: Official EVGA GTX 780 Classified Thread 2013/12/04 08:43:35 (permalink)
Can I ask roughly what you guys think would be a 'modest' OC for a pair of Classifieds running in SLI?

I've gotten myself a bit confused as I've gone from tweaking these to the CPU and back again and seem to be running into glitches and blue screens aplenty.

Decided to leave my CPU OC where it is, as with my limited knowledge I can't get the multiplier higher without failing stress testing or going over the 1.3v maximum I set myself.  So it's at 4.4GHz with XMP enabled (2133MHz) and Uncore set to Auto.

So now I'm trying to OC these Classifieds.  I got them up to 1306MHz on the core before I started seeing definite artifacts in Heaven.  I dropped it down to ~1280MHz and seconds later the PC crashed - not a blue screen crash but a blank screen and it eventually reset itself.  That scared me, a lot, and now I'm a bit nervous about using Precision X to try again!

I'm looking for a stable OC that I can run games on without problems.  I went back to my default +100 settings to both core and memory, and it seemed fine on Heaven and Fire Strike.  I then tried BF4, and after squealing like a girl (my first ever game at 1080p, and with everything at Ultra and running 120Hz with LightBoost it just blew me away) I lost a bit of my excitement when I noticed weird glitching on a row of fence panels in the Test Area.  It looked like there was some sort of light flickering all over them.  Hard to describe, but I saw no other issues.

I came out of the game, fearing another big crash, and tried Heaven again.  Now I was really looking closely, I noticed similar 'flickering' on some of the textures, and particularly when the camera pans around the dragon.  I felt pretty deflated as I thought I had already exceeded the limits of my cards.  But then I found out that this glitch in Heaven is quite well-known, and generally thought of as a bug with Heaven and not an indication of an unstable OC.  So perhaps the same was true in BF4?

So now I'm confused.  What would you guys recommend as a good target?  I'm not after a 1300MHz+ speed, just a little bit more than the OOTB clocks (to justify the purchase of the Classifieds over other 780s!).  Also, I've been running with added voltage, is that really necessary in your experience for clocks of between 1200 and 1250?  I realise every card is unique, but hope that someone can point me in the right direction.  I felt the OOTB clocks were good, and I have Samsung memory on both cards...so I thought I should be able to reach something like 1250MHz safely...but if I'm mistaken (or if it's just not needed) please let me know!

For me is necessary Max voltage for 1265MHz Boost.
I mean voltage for this card is absolutely unseen minimum what I saw, I think on EVGA Precision.
Base Clock of chip is under 900MHz. He must be OC on 1100 to boost on 1250MHz and little more. 0.075V is nothing for such difference than base clock for GK110. Because of that I say EVGA Precision need at least 1.250V option for Classified.

I'm thinking of using the Rev 3 Skyn3t bios too, I'm pretty scared by it as I've never flashed anything before and have seen some horror stories about cards not working etc.  But right now I feel that I'm not getting the experience I was hoping for; I'm still getting glitches etc at only 1228MHz.  So I probably need to drop down to 1200MHz, which to be honest seems like an easy figure for most 780s to hit and this one is meant to be a little special.  The frustrating part is that the temp's are under control (peak is 73 degrees) so I feel that if I could raise the power target and add just a touch of voltage I could get closer to the 1250MHz target and be stable in all games.

What voltage did you add to get 1187mv?  I'm a bit confused by it all; I did try adding the maximum allowed (+60 IIRC) by the EVGA Voltage Tool but that made absolutely no difference so I've dropped down to +38mv.

I'm running r3 of that bios, don't have any more time to do more tonight but this is quite something imo. Everything still on air and no artefacting!

I have two EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX cards and now 2 EVGA GTX 780 Classified cards. I havent opened the classified cards yet because of the images of the card. it appears to be 1/2 to 3/4 inch taller in the pictures of it on the box and on the website than the cards already in my machine. can anyone tell me if there is a height difference to the cards. i would really rather to not have to sell them if i didnt have to and drop them in my machine.

I just sell mine GTX780 Classified. I barely sell because people really no money and because mine conditions.
Mine conditions was to customer came to my home and see and test card and than to buy if want. No sending over delivery service.
We test in mine PC first and than in his rig, temps, GPU usage, Unigine Heaven, Valley, 3DMarks,...  he satisfied, I think he is not aware completely how nice card he bought only because I want to upgrade on Ti. I have all money for Kingpin Ti, and that's it.
And he say how card is very silent and no loud at all, like many others who have chance to see ACX at my home.
That's for people who discuss about noise.

i think im going to have to sell my cards too. i dont want to pull out the cards ive been using the last 6 months and try to sell them used so ill have to sell the new cards still sealed in the original packaging unless i get lucky enough for someone to trade me a new 780sc acx for a classy. I could use the classy if i were to use the crappy flexible sli bridge but i really like the evga pro bridge. and then again i cant even use my pro bridge because of the 3.5 sli spacing on the sabertoothe MB. I knew i should have gotten the crosshair v formula z MB but i was going for cooling since im in AZ. Thanks alot guys. If anyone knows of a solution to my dilemma please pm me as to not disturb the flow of this group.

If anyone knows of a solution to my dilemma please pm me as to not disturb the flow of this group.

Thank You,
Q5Grafx

Is it the regular classy or Ti?  Just want to verify for sure.   Also,  are you looking for a 1 to 1 or are you considering a little extra to offset the amount you would lose?

*bump*
I have a question about the Precision X representation of the actual clock on the memory. Currently I have about a +360 on the memory with a max of 3400 total on load. I have heard of 7ghz from some people. Am I doing pretty good on this oc, and is that 7 ghz bogus? I was told also that the clock is doubled from what you see in Precision x- is that true?

Sorry, maybe this was answered here, but no way I want to wade through 1115 replies to find the answer.....  :/

Am I reading the website description of the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition correctly in that this version does NOT offer a displayport interface?

I don't understand if you think on KP Edition you have DVI-D, DVI-I, HDMI, Display Port.

I have a gtx 780 dual bios classified not a TI. I can't seem to OC even a little with precision x or afterburner. I switched to secondary bios (red led) but will still only OC to 100mgz on clock and won't let me OC memory. Do you think there might be a problem with card?
