They do make a valid point.  You want the exactly same parts of the card being reviewed that you'll be selling to the masses and or buying.  I don't think the other memory (Elpida) will be an issue but they do have a valid point.  But it's not illegal because they aren't advertising or stating that the memory is or has to be Samsung.  Basically they can do whatever they want.  They do confirm that they are using a GK110 chip.  If that got changed, I am sure that would be the "crossing of the red line".  (dammit did I hear that line a lot today lol)

Re:Official EVGA GTX 780 Classified Thread 2013/09/04 00:39:27 (permalink)
Actually your point about buying on release is not valid as I did purchase 3 cards 1 was samsung 2 were the off elpida and its not the same the elpidia on every card overclocks half as much as my classified and ref 780 that have samsung memory +225 mem max is what I get with elpidia mem samsung I at least get +410 min on my ref so huge difference in benchs.

No its not illegal your right its just shady business practices. If they sent it to reviews then it would be different but they sent samsung to the reviews probably knowing they did not have enough samsung memory to go around. All I am asking a evga staff though is can we expect samsung to beused and again and a rough time frame if they are.q

I returned my Classy with Elpida mem as my reference 780 was outbenching it easily with the softmod for 1.325v. Waiting for the next batch to be available in the EU, testing one and if its still Elpida ill return that too.

Did we forget to mention memory? Well, that topped out at 7426MHz before the GDDR5’s error correction stepped in, which is nothing short of incredible.

Another nice review using the Samsung memory, that card is doing over twice the memory overclock compared to both of my Elpida cards.

i wouldnt blame evga for it, im sure if samsung memory wasnt so hard to get right now, all the classifieds would be getting it. even titans are starting to get elpida over samsung.

Seriously guys. We get the point... You're annoyed about the samsung memory. There is no-one on these forums who isn't aware that you are annoyed.

Go guy a lightning then and stop your belly-aching.

It's also worth noting that these reviews never mention the mem brand AT ALL. So it's entirely possible that these are Elpida, just very high results for the elpida RAM.

Just the same as with anything else, you can get 'golden' elpida memory modules I'm sure.

Even if they are Samsung's that were sent to the reviewers, wouldn't you? Honestly, not just internet posturing... Honestly if you ran a multi-million $$ business like EVGA, wouldn't you?

Thing is we wouldn't need golden elpida memory if we got the Samsung that was on the reviewed cards in the first place.
But your right complaining about it isn't going to fix it and guess it's ok for a multi-million business to screw over it's customer's and get away with it. Who needs memory that overclocks good on a card made for overclocking?

Anyhow I solved the problem so I'm done talking about it.

Would you rather them halting all production for samsung memory when Elpida can run at spec just fine?

matter of a fact is ..they did sent samples and they keep sending review samples of the product that is not available in a favor of getting better reviews which is not fair and wrong ,which part don't you get it man !?,if you going to provide a sample why the hell not Elpida based IC card and I don't care if they are hand picked /highest binned but at list they will look like "true blue" type of company
EDIT; this is not pre-realised review and well know fact is out in a wild that you/me won't get similar product

You're acting as if they are only sending reviewers cards with samsung memory, which isn't true at all. Nobody really knows as the reviewers never tell us what memory is on the PCB.

Hey FORCES, back to what you were saying about cooling the VRMs.  It looks like the block is thicker all the way to the VRM island, implying that the water channel inside continues until the VRM section, after which it gets thinner.  I'll try and post pics tomorrow, I have the HCs laying around, haven't started my WC build yet, been too busy.

I'm sure the block is pretty decent then, you sure can't tell by the photo they took of the bottom but anyhow that's cool they are connected.
Funny thing is I had two of them a couple of weeks back and never opened the box and looked at them, but that was before I seen the photo otherwise I would of took a closer look..

I'm happy with my Elpida.  I'm at +600 (7200 Mhz) which I settled on because of the decreasing effectiveness of the memory overclock at higher numbers.  I tested up to +800 I was still getting increases without any artifacts, but the increases were getting progressively smaller so it wasn't worth it for me.

As I said in a previous thread memory overclocking is a very small increase overall on these 780's compared to the 680.  I went up slightly less than 200 points in 3DMark 11 extreme going from +0 to +600.

I bought the card a couple of days ago. It's really gorgeous except the one green LED indicating normal/LN2 mode. Should this be on all the time? Why isn't the light white like the other LEDs? This really anoys me.

So, what exactly is up with the physics engine on these cards? its freekin terrible....doesnt even manage 30 FPS on firestrike standard, barley does 4 FPS on 3dmark 11 the physics is being done on GPU 2, and I am running a proper SLI setup....this is really pathetic, my 690 ran 10800 scores with a 4.2GHZ 2600K these only managed 11100 with a 4.4GHZ 4770K thats pathetic for 2 GTX Classy's whats up with this?

The Physics segments are CPU dependent.  If you're getting low scores, I would check there first.
