I think it would be a good idea to mod the BIOS of these cards for an unlocked power target. That would undoubtedly help OCing a bunch, and it isn't hard or risky with the dual BIOS setting.

There are already a few modified classified BIOSes in the wild that give you a virtually unlimited amount of headroom with the TDP throttling. I'm not sure if EVGA allows them being linked on their forums though...

Can't really figure out my card and the classy overvolting tool. Best bench I was able to pass was at 1293Mhz (1306Mhz passed, but with some artefacts) with 175+ on the mem, although i haven't tried any higher with the mem really. However, wasn't game stable.

Voltage is also a bit odd. Adding 0.038 via Precision seems to increase stability, however it never goes higher than 1.125. Once, when I just pushed the card to boost out at 1320Mhz it hit 1.1320 (or something similar) before crashing.

Now, the classy overvolt software... I was told you should adjust the sliders, shut off the computer and then boot up again. However, whenever I'm back in Windows again all the settings have reset to default. What am I missing here?

Not really sure if the overvolting is really interesting since my card seems to run very hot. Even at the fans running at 100% it couldn't keep my card below 79 degrees at 1280Mhz which until that point (about 45mins of playing) seemed like game stable.

Only way to know what voltage you are really pushing is to use the headers on the video card and a voltmeter.  EVGA sells a probe-it connector to make it easier.  The software stops being accurate on the voltage once you start adding more voltage that normal software will get you.  And also, typically these cards pull more voltage than you set when its at full load.

79C at 1.35v full fans even at 1300Mhz is pretty normal. Temps probably wont change much if you kept that voltage and raised it to 1400Mhz.

Seems like the average max overclock for these cards is right around the 1400Mhz mark with 1.3v+  I can say from exerience, you should not aim to push past that amount even with a BIOS unlock for 200% power target, if you are not running L2N or some other kind of solution to drop your temps to freezing levels, even at 1.5v there is not much stability to be had without extremely low temps.

With waterblocks and 40C full load, Max stable OC i could reach was about 1446. Didnt seem to change if voltage was 1.3 or 1.5  I ran my TEC unit in the loop and i hit 1500Mhz no problem. Just a little insight.

Yeah, well it's not 1.35mv, that would have been more understandable. If the overvolt tool did work it should have been around 1.21xmV so it still is hot, especially considering card was only running at 1280Mhz at that time. Of course, without a volt meter I can't be too sure, but then again shouldn't the software as gpu-z or precision x be able to read up to 1.212mV?

I read over at OCN that high ASIC probably is worse for overclocking your card much. "From what you've said it sounds like your ASIC is high ... high OC's and high temps at lower voltages. Lower ASIC is high OC's and low temps at higher voltages. That's based on my experience with one Classy at 67.1 and the other at 91.1"

Seems to be the same with my card having an ASIC of 92.7%. Still running stock BIOS and even before trying the Classy tool, it never reported a higher voltage than 1.125mV. So, it requires low voltage but runs hot. Even at 1.125mV the card reached 79 degrees, although with a much less agressive fan curve that didn't hit 100% until card got around 77-78 degrees.

Hi all.

I need all you Classified owners opinion on this vid i made.

its bassicaly for you to hear the noise of the ACX cooler.

The EU EVGA customer service rep iv spoke to by email says it is a little noisier than it should be. But i want more peoples perspective.
If i RMA, ill have to roll the dice on the Silicon lottery again, and ill have to pay to ship it form the UK to germany.

My current GPU ASIC is 87.9 and the out of the box clock is 1163mhz at 1.162mv on the core.

BTW you might want to wear headphone and turn the volume up to hear it properly, i only have an old SD digital camcorder at my disposal :P

1.212mV is the max for what you can achieve with software as precision x. For higher voltage you need the classy overvolting tool.

Classified is a binned card and generally run faster 1137mhz out of the box. They also use a custom PCB, and have an evbot port, and dual bios. If you can afford it get classified you wont regret it.

Hi,

I bought yesterday new EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified w/ ACX Cooler. I noticed that when I run fan in 40-60% front fan make little noise. It's like rats rats. But back fan is working correctly.

When I boost fan speed to 100% that noise disappear. Is anyone noticed this same issue? I think that fan is catching to protection plastic?

I have same issue though at different speed. other people have report noise issues aswell. I think if ur rig is quiet enough its sticks out, maybe some people dont hear an issue with theirs or they dont have an issue. but it seems common enough that if i were u, i wouldnt worry about it. Just try setup up a fan profile that skips the fan speeds that cause the rattle/vibration.

I posted a link to a skydrive file of a vid i made. Compare ur noise to that. Here is the link.

Re:Official EVGA GTX 780 Classified Thread 2013/08/21 14:06:03 (permalink)
It couldnt be helped. I only had access to a SD digital camcorder from ..well i dunno ..years back. If u use headphones and just crank up the volume the overall sound levels are fine, so its not like there is any noise that will suddenly blow ur ears of :)

Also i was purposly keeping my voice down. I waited til lthe night to do it so ambient noise was almost non existant. But ofc that meant people in me house were in bed in the next room lol. My irg is also very quiet anyway, the fact its sound what i would call noisy in the vid should give u an idea of how loud it actually is.

Yeah, most likely. However, since my card runs too hot even at these low values I will have to wait until the weekend when I pickup my new PSU. It's modular, so I'll get rid of a few cables, will also to better cable management and replace my cpu fan which is mounted the wrong way atm :P But please, report back. Otherwise, just use the classy overvolt tool?

My card tends to run hot (atleats i think it does , i dont know otherp eoples temps and fan speeds). At 1.175v playing crysis 3 i have to have the fan at 90% to keep temps below 80c.
At its stock 1.162v i need the fans at 76%.

My advice - watercool it.

Or buy another one and undervolt them for ultimate quiet air cooling

Dumb question. how to undervolt? EVGA Precision doesnt seem to suport this.

i would not mind trying to lower my stock voltage and seeing if i can keep stock clocks (or better maybe). Instead of OC'ing or staying stock and having to run with high fan speeds.

Somthing in the 1300's. I doubt u can expect the average Classy to hit 1400 at that voltage tbh.

What voltage/MHz is safe to say under water is good for 24/7 / gaming use and just for benching before you bring it back down to your normal overclock?  An average answer would be appreciated.

I have been running Blacklist at 1306 on both of my 780 classifieds on water.  My guess is I will need a customer bios to go any higher.

I put a lot of my water cooling observations in the Classified owners thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1411500/official-evga-classified-owners-club/1330

But right now I'm running a pretty stable 1400core @ 1.3 volt. Anything over 1400 requires a lot of extra voltage, and you'll start seeing artifacts around 1436-1450.  Also running skyn3t's custom bios which gives me a 130% power target. Highly recommended.

I ran the 2nd highest Valley bench score for a single card earlier (top card being LN2 Titan). Beating out tons of Titans, 780s and SLI 680s. The Classy is just amazing
