Alright. There appears to be no opposition to allowing division changes, so I can set it up for those that want to. I think doing it across the board may be unnecessary, so it may be easiest to do it on a person by person basis. So if you are folding and want to be added to the crunching divisions, please let me know somehow. You can post here or PM me. Because we are making changes to the crunching section, I believe we can also allow late entrants into the crunching division (sorry, folding is going to stay locked) if there are any interested. You can choose your time zone or just asked to be placed in a balancing manner. Feel free to get the word out to get your team the help it needs! Changes will be allowed through the remainder of the contest. However, understand it is done manually and may take a day or two to get it set up. The earlier you request, the more you will help! For transparency sake, I will be keeping a list of all changes and late entrants here: - Viper97 - Pacific - Moved from "Folding" to "BIGADV"
- wrinvert - Eastern - Added to both crunching divisions.

My laptop has an i7 3740QM CPU with an NVIDIA NVS 5200M (workstation card). I tried folding with it, but it seems pretty weak.
Would it be better for crunching? Never tried crunching before - I guess I need to install the BOINC software?

It is worth a try. Every unit helps, and the CPU division is still a pretty tight race. You will need to install BOINC and have had a couple units finish so we can find you in the stats. If you are not happy with the results after those first units, you can just shut it down and remain in just folding.

Part of me wants to try some of the GPU folding (See if we can get some points for Central there), but then again these new 9201 projects are just slaughtering my PPD. But it does add a new element to the challenge, trying to maximize the benefit from the available hardware.

I am running a i7-2670QM laptop running at 2.2GHz and it does decent at crunching. I used it for Folding before I got into crunching and it was pretty lame at it. Its a better cruncher by far. At a guess it puts out about 30% to 40% of my crunching points. My i5-3570K 3.40GHz, OC to 4.2GHZ, beats it hands down of course. It all depends on what projects I'm running on the laptop. While I am partial to Bio Medical projects you might have other interests. If so there is plenty to choose from. I tend to just set it up to run SIMAP, WCG-Mapping Cancer Markers, Poem, or some other Bio Medical related project and let it do its thing. It even did ok running Prime Grid during the resent challenge event. Prime Grid probably has the most CPU intensive WU's I have ran, they even made the i5 run hotter than normal. So give it a try and see what your laptop can do. Not sure how well that GPU will do. From what I can tell its about the equivalent to a GeForce GT 620M. All you can do is try it out. There is only one Bio Medical project with work for a GPU right now, GPU Grid. If your looking to do Astronomy work then give Astroids@Home or MilkyWay@Home a look. I guess Seti@Home qualifies as astronomy now as well since they have a WU aimed at finding radio signals from Pulsars, black holes, etc. Plenty to do in the Mathematics field as well, Collatz Conjecture and PrimeGrid are probably the most popular that offer GPU work. Just be warned, Prime Grid will push your hardware harder than most other projects so you need to keep an eye on it and see how it does for the first day or so.

Hang in there madcattt. You're doing a top job there! I think everyone will be taking a hit with the p9201 unless we revert to older drivers again. I'm playing with the flags to see what comes up each time but am stuck with p13001s for a while. I'm afraid my strong suit is -bigadv. Notfordman and I can't lift the team against the calibre of the Mountain machine atm.

Well the mountain crew also has the advantage of much cooler weather right now as well. Today we were pushing close to the 90s and there's no break in sight before the end of the competition. Central is still doing well for itself right now, second place is nothing to be ashamed of.

It wasn't cool yesterday here - 30c house was a bit warm - folding wasn't helping Im still coasting(easy 2 tiers) - Im gaming daily if need be I can triple my output I told you Mountain has big guns... LOL in previous contest we were smoked out by big turnout by East(where most of the folders are) and then central Pacific and mountain have smaller number of members - particularly mountain does mountain has had the highest PPD/member in previous contests It is always East and centrals to win - provided they get members out the west - MST and PST always have it tough against the horde out east look at past contests - 100+ members from east - a little over a dozen from mountain Like a told drougnor in the thread earlier- It don't care if im in last or first - I'll take the mountain only and see where the chips lie It might wake up parts of the team that are in slumber or a funk with FAH...even more if PST or MST wins I'll just keep chugging along -I don't give a fig about FAH or Foldingforums - Ive had enough of the politics and attitude im like some members that do it for the right reason - fight disease - find cures if you can afford it.. do it if you can't just do what you can - get the message out or do other charity work - or just for for contests you already have a pat of the shoulder for what everyone has done already and will get plenty more if you all continue to do so in some fashion

That is more then OK, I have stopped crunching on some projects but still receive points up to 5 days. Reviews sometimes take a long time to complete. I too am only seeing 9201 but see 12000 for each one completed, I am Finishing all 3 of my GPU's and in the AM resetting my Folding Rig to see if that will clear out and help stop seeing more of them.

Eoc stats page updates every 3hrs or for faster review look into teamviewer, its free, easy and gives you control from anywhere.

9201's killed me yesterday. Switched back to the advanced flag, but i wont have a chance to check my machine until tonight. Sprinx if you do end up GPU folding and dont leave the machine on all day running GPUGrid make sure you dont select long run units. I had my laptop doing those without notice and didnt get points because i was turning them in past the deadline. So if its not a 24/7 machine then short runs are best. Again though thats on GPUGrid, i have no experience with any other GPU crunching.

Going full steam but gaming is cutting down my crunching points a bit I love the overall ppd stats, a consolation since pst is bringing up the rear! I'm holding it down at #10 on crunching. I see wrinvert creeping up on the #10 spot for folding too

Problem with the 9201's has caused me to remove the beta flag on my GPU's. Possibly I should have set them to advanced but I removed them. I have picked up really long running WU's so it will be a while before I gain my PPD back.

Seven WCG points equal roughly 1 BOINC point. So the sum of your WCG points so far = 84080. 84080 / 7 = 12011. The TZC stats show 11924, which matches the roughly 7 WCG per BOINC.
