Since opolis got me up and running now can i be added to est cpu crunching list? If its a hassle dont worry about it, doing it for the cause not the glory. Just trying to help the team :-)

I am sorry for the delay, but you should now be reporting on the 12:15 PM eastern update. It will probably take a few more updates for you to show up, as it ignores you until you have a reported score.

I have also decided I will drop the deadline and allow people to request division changes through the remainder of the contest. This still includes the understanding that it may take me a couple days to get it done. In hindsight, I should have set up the baseline for wrinvert as soon as he requested (easy step), and done the stats formatting later. That way the performance over the couple days would not have been lost. I am sorry about that.

no worries at all, it was my fault for not signing up properly and like I said I'm having fun with it either way :-)

My crunching rig "Mercury" is down. Hard drive is show early signs of failing. So I'm shutting it down in prep for a hard drive cloning before it fully fails. Also the high winds in my area might knock the power out, which will affect folding production. Gotta love the up coming storm season.

Re: Official 2014 Time Zone Challenge Thread (Folding + Crunching!) 2014/04/26 22:20:36 (permalink)
Just made it back to the room, and what I found is annoying, but fixable.  the GPUs are no longer showing numbers 0, 1, and 2 but instead 1, 2, 3 and one GPU on each computer is sitting at "Download" with no information.  So, my numbers have been extremely low because of that.  Now, I have a 7622, 7621, and 7624 on Big Brother, and little has a 7623 and a 9201.  Big has shown a shut down and restart, but I won't be able to figure that out as it has happened in the past.  Both systems are upo and running, which makes me happy that they aren't dead.  That was a stressful time being away..  PPD was 70k on Big and 29 on Little, and they are both risin g slowly with full WUs on each GPU.

Was typing an Edit, and had a BSOD... Errh...  OK.. Anyway.  Both systems are running, but Little Brother is pulling better PPD over all (67k vs Bigs 82).  All of my flags were gone on EVERY GPU, as I had most flags set to Beta, and the 750Ti was set to the correct Cuda Count.  So, everything is reset, and hopefully when these WUs are finished, I can get them sorted out to produce better results.  I will be back in this race soon.

Also adjusted the CPU from Adaptive to Manual and dropped it from 1.325 to 1.310 and moved the Input Voltage from Auto to 1.8 and the system seems to run much smoother now....  Hopefully that was the issue with the BSOD.

This happened to me a couple weeks ago.. IF you are still can receive work, just try rebooting your ROUTER, then reboot the rig.

Thanks mflanaga. Got similar advice from FF but before I tried the completed wus got sent at the next checkpoint. We had a storm here last night which can knock out the ISP . That's my best guess.
So no points lost. Whoop.

The win may be all but gone for Pacific, but we can still try to ruin it for someone else!  A push in the CPU or BIGADV divisions can swing 1st place.

Mountain does hold the tiebreaker by a pretty large margin, however.

Come on eastern! Just one more push and we can nab first place.

And while we wait for "THE" miracle..... There's something I'd like to address saji & Co.

The PrimeGrid thing, you was not unclear about that at all, it was told pritty Clear that PrimeGrid was utilizing GPU's so the numbers from here, was credited in the GPU Crunching Division.
It was me who didn't pay enough attention, that's all. I will try to read ALL NeXT time, sorry

So, finding another Project without any GPU help, I went for the list on the TZC front page.
I'm an old "Star Gazer" so I thought Astroids might be a fun Project to support.
But hey, They seems to utilize GPU's too

I have not seen their Points yet. They have not shown up in my BAM yet either, so I have no idea of how many Points I have earned from there, but all I say is, no "easy earned" CPU crunching for me. Not my attention.
If you can, Please extraxt Points from Astroids from me.

btw, just a small weather report from the Mountains:
We have crisp, clean and Cold air at the time being, however, a low pressure from the east is closing, this might result in some turbulence.
But no worries, the easters breeze tend to evaporate when it has to Reach higher grounds

(Secret msg to Mountaineer's, no others are allowed to read)
Mountain guy'z might consider jumping off the already lost Battle (folding) and pay extra attention to CPU crunching.

I did the same thing when looking for something for my CPU's to do after changing from Prime Grid. I am a star gazer and space fanatic the same (love me some Kerbal). As soon as I fired up Asteroids, I noticed the same thing, it grabbed GPU work as well.

Looking through a few forums, it appears the GPU is only a 50% or so acceleration. Over a few days of using it on 1 GPU (GTX 670), I have found it does give extra points over just CPU. However, the majority of my points are still coming from my 12C server. Compared to other GPU projects, it is still poorly optimized. It still has a little bit of unfair control over the CPU division, but there is not much that can be done about it. It would be too difficult to move the projects around now, so it will have to stay as is.

There is a downside to Asteroids, however. I have noticed it only updates on the stats site every 2 days or so. So near the end of the contest, Asteroids will probably be a poor choice, as the contest may close before your recent stats are collected.

Got "Mercury" back up and running with a new cloned HDD.  The power held through out the night, so "Quartz" is still folding at full power.

Great News Minako^^
Good thing you heard the HD began to struggle, and understood the signs^^
I'm really jumpy when it comes to sounds, especially from harddrives he he^^
Glad you got it fixed, perhaps this time on a bigger and faster HDD ?

There is an easy fix from the user perspective; if you're intending to score CPU points from a particular project, simply change that project's preferences to not allow GPU work.

Mercury was booting up with a message stating to "insert a bootable drive", plus a weird needle noise gave me a clue that the HDD was going out.  The new HDD is actually slower (5400 vs 7200 rpm) and of the same size, but it works.

Wow, I need more PAWUH!!!!! Mountain is clenching the number 1 overall.. I just got both rigs running High PPD again, and my scores are jumping fast.. I just have to figure out how to force feed more info, lol.

I did decide to hold off the MoBo swap until After the contest is complete... I didn't want to pull the system down for 2 hours while changing everything over.

It turns out the crunching stats have been stuck for over a day. The script just stopped half-way through an update, and I am not sure why. I have reset it and will let you know after the next scheduled update (:15) if we are back up and running. It should be a big update as its catching up on all we lost.

Thanks to orange for pointing it out.

Edit: That update was successful. I will try to keep a better eye on it now.

The counter is a widget built into the site. Apparently, not a very good widget. I just put the date in and it lined up. So while nifty, it isn't something we can rely on.

Ahem, there has also been a little mixup in the CPU Crunching division setup.
Pacific is presented twice, while Mountain is gone, and Eastern has taken Mountain's Place.
(cheap trick )

EDIT: Stuff seems to have fallen in it's Place now. Apparently I jumped in before Things had sorted out.

You must have caught it in the middle of the update (it writes the cells one at a time, so it had just written Pacific). But now that it is accurate, you had better be concerned about the CPU ranking even more.

I'm sad, all my recent wu's are without bonus points. This is frustrating.

I am going to leave the prize donations open a little longer than initially posted, since Punchy is out of town anyways. He is the one with the distribution system, so I can leave it open until he is back in town. I will be purchasing the "Pool Prize" shortly, so if anyone wants to pitch in for an even bigger prize, please do so soon! Right now it looks like it will be some version of an EVGA GTX 770 (The best I can get for the donated amount).
