So after I told fah to stop after the core 18 it was working on so I could play some far cry 3, it then downloaded a core 15 and that caused some hell. I got a grey screen and some massive coil whine. Louder than I have ever heard it. I rebooted and set the clocks back to stock and still had it. I know its not allowed to drop wu's but I don't feel comfortable doing the 15s with that much coil whine.

Yea my gtx 980 is almost the same. I get no coil whine on core17's, then the core15's come rolling in and its the ONLY thing that makes the cards start to produce coil whine. Core15's are also much more sensitive to overclocks. Coil whine does not harm the card at all, all it does it annoy people.

Ok, try this link out - Again, it's primitive and ugly, but it should be a functional backup of the important stats related info

glad (sort of) to hear that im not the only one with the problem
there was almost a ticking going on with the whine, almost like i could hear the power being injected into the card, i know this sounds crazy, but it was also 1am, so i may have been hearing things, and i had also just finished taking an outpost on far cry 3

also, the top 4 producers for mountain are doing over 80% of the total for all 11 people, i feel so insignificant with my ~1% lol

that's a memory issue
if your running an cpu or memory overclock look at them - this us unrelated to the cards - since it's happening on both

you can post the issue if you are in the beta team to the beta forum at FF
---------------------------------------------------------

on a side note the team standings aren't posting ...Ive tried a bunch of times now
getting Div errors

Thanks,

Not that I have changed for the last year or so.
I will check between next Bug Check that happens.
I am also running Numbers.

Can I get 2$ on number 714 please?

Coil whine is not harmful. Sometimes if you let it whine whine long enough, it gets quieter.

It should not hurt anything to put you 570 in under your other card. But you will most likely have to reinstall drivers. Not sure how fha will react though but it should find it ok.

The coil whine is nothing to be concerned about, it's just annoying.

Core 15's DO require some monitoring of your hardware if you run a high overclock, are
close to the limit of your PSU, or have a hot environment.

They work your GPU significantly harder than other cores (which doubles the annoyance of not getting a QRB with them) thus using more power and more heat.

Everything went fine. Reinstalled drivers and all is well except fah has them backwards.

Milestone time for me... I broke 150 Team and 1500 Project Simultaneously.  And I am finally over 50 million.

I should probably live on base at the next place, just so I can have more free electricity, LOL.  The fold may get expensive in the future, running two x processors and looking to get 2-3 more GK110 GPU's (that part is in the air for now).

V7 has never got the the card id's correct in my experience. Annoying, but not a big enough issue for them to fix, apparently.

with the 970 doing an 18 and the 570 doing a 17 im pulling 500 watts at the socket
that is still a safe area with a 750 watt psu right?

With a high quality PSU, you should be able to run at 100% 750/.92=815 watts at the wall.
Even an average quality unit should have no worry at 80% continuous load. 750*.8/.8= 750 watts at the wall.

general air flow to your MB VRM, cards and their VRM is a more likely issue with the continuous loads of FOLDING. If your PSU is of an average or better quality, you should have no worry unless your cat/dog has filled it with hair. ;)

its an antec tp750 80% silver i believe
its a few years old, but it has never given me problems
and i keep the case and components pretty clean
i dont really need to worry about the motherboard components when im only folding with cards, do i?

*Keep in mind that your OpenCL and CUDA indexes *may not* necessarily be the same value* (eg. on one of my 970s and my old 680 (3 GPUs total in the system) the OpenCL index required "1", while the CUDA index required "2" for the 970. Vice versa for the 680.)

Apologies. Link corrected, but you'll likely still need to copy/paste it into your browser.
