I folded for EST but I do think we all won for the sake of science. Thanks for the badges but I keep mine in my heart.

Congratulations to everyone for an exceptional week or so of folding.

How does TZC determine who captures the 2nd place prize?

Nice finish MST and PST

Sounds like drougnor will be contacting Stanford for a minute by minute record of every WU contest folders submitted

Last Update: 9:27 PM EDT
Mountain
49,997,143 3,814,027 2,857 0.00   Pacific
49,694,280 3,790,923 305,720 0.08
Wow, just this couple thousand points might make contacting Stanford necessary ... depending on if PST can push through more than 305,720 points in the next hour.

Heck, this is the most fun I've had following the numbers since the early going ... again, great job folders!

Edit ... beat to the stats, sorry for the repost, but, thoughts remain.

I guess I'm disqualified from the prize pool as I have already stopped my clients.

The challenge was over for me when EST finished 50 Million. During this whole challenge it was the first one to cross the line. Where did this every team must cross come from? Remember this was my first year and don't know all the rules apparently. Even though I have spoken I would not be participating in future events, I was hoping to at least finish this one.

I estimated my PPD at 40K and I made sure I kept to my 40K till the first team crossed. I was not under the impression that TZC would continue till all team's completed 50 Million.

Its not a problem and does not disqualify you from winning a prize (as long as you crossed the 100,000 point threshold).  Though the contest is "officially" over, it was announced several times that we would continue to track stats until all teams had completed the challenge.  While I would certainly encourage you to fold with your team to the end, it is not required that you do so.

I am certainly glad that you stuck the contest out to the end, despite your frustrations with the disparity between the big guns and the little guys -- very admirable on your part.  I certainly hope that this will not be the last contest you participate in, but that is entirely up to you.  Depending on how things may or may not shape up in the future, there are a number of potential contest ideas that could "level the playing field" a bit.  Regardless, most people find that at the end of the day the actual points within a contest matter very little.  Fold on!

it was coming anyways...
I should have my sandy-e at the end of the month...so onto Bigadv- bigbeta on linux

MAD will be on my rear view if I don't,    besides... clawing the way up the ladder in the 500's takes time
The new build will step it up for me

C_C,
let me know if it don't work out. That would be a travesty...JIMO

Great to have you and thanks from the bottom of my EST WINNING heart.

Big numbers are very important to the project, no doubt. But the great finallity of this TZC showed the importance of the combined efforts of the "Not so great" folding partners when combined in unison.

From the way it's described in the prize pages, my understanding was that the veterans would have a chance for both bigadv rigs, while regular participants would have a chance for only one bigadv rig.

So, what makes sense to me is to first make the drawing for the veterans-only rig among the veterans, then (excluding the winner) go ahead with the regular bigadv rig drawing. Finally, a single drawing for the smaller prizes should be made, excluding the bigadv rig winners. At any step, if a person does not want a prize, all such prizes should be put back and a second drawing should be made among those who did not win anything in the first drawing. That's how I'd do it anyway...

I like this idea for the bigadv rigs. It does give vets 2 chances and well why not if you have put up the points or been here for long enough it is kind of like having a privilege and may encourage some to stay for longer to be eligible for some big prizes we don't want to just go to someone who is not somewhat dedicated to our team or the cause.

Re:Official 2011 Time Zone Challenge Announcements 2011/11/07 02:40:21 (permalink)
The way it's previously worked is that we all get a random number (yes we all know numbers are neveral 100% randomly generated but we're very close to perfect randomness so we'll let that one slide!) between a range (say 0 to 5,000,000), the person with the smallest number starts by choosing the first prize they wish. If they chose the veteran rig and they do not qualify, troy would then let them know. After that step it's just plain sailing down the list with each member pming the next one and so on and so forth as the veteran rig is the only one with a specific requirement. Having all these different drawings one after the other sounds like a recipe for confusion to me. :)

So what do I win? I hardly folded.  I think I managed the 100k for the prizes though, just gotta see my points get "totaled" on the different sites. So I can count.

I folded all weekend, my GPU got to 72 and my CPU cores were 61-65. My points are still being updated on the site.

The list will be updated when Central reaches 50.000.000?
I see many users that have over 100.000 and guess they have more than 2.000.000 for EVGA but are not on that list, that includes me too :)

Thanks again for setting up this event! I'm happy that none of my hardware died during this challenge ;) Also beat my best day of folding and my new amount is 121k points in a single day! Hope to hit 4 million before the month is over :D!

I will either find a way, or make one.
