  • Due to the large turn out for this contest, we are going to increase the point goal to 50 million.  It should take teams somewhere around 14 to 21 days to complete depending on how they perform.
  • Reminder to all participants that a minimum of 100,000 points is require to qualify for winning any of the folding gifts.  If you cannot reach this level due to the limitations  of your hardware, you must contact me before the contest begins to remain eligible.
  • Many people are asking about the exact start time of the contest and the exact start time will remain unknown except to drougnor and myself.  It could start at any point on the 24th...in any time zone.

As for what TZ your folding for, it really doens't matter, besides trash talk, lol

changed to 50 million? I guess I'm not surprised with the hardware we have today and we seem to have more members this year then last year too

for anyone wondering this was the old contest page for 2010, solonw and bwm at the time were folding as thier own team since they were producing massive points with some kinda work server farm if I remember right

and Big Advance users have acception too since they take a day or 2 to finish per unit.

yea everyone is going for Battlefield 3, but don't feel bad, this contest might run past November 11th when Skyrim (the game I want to play) releases too

I'm not sure if 3 weeks is enough time to hit 50 million.

The bonus of having kids/console/contest happening during work crunch.  I have an option if I HAVE time to game, but likely, I simply won't have the time.
  • Wake - Morning routine
  • Go to work
  • Get home - Eat - Family time
  • Pass out
  • Repeat
That's my next . . . oh, forever, it feels like.  The folding will make sure my PCs don't feel left out and ignored.

Not sure what X-Z is referring to.

Your +/- PPD calcs are off if it is what I think it's supposed to be. Is this simple the current PPD as a percent of what was in the registration? If so, it should look like what I got.

Yours:

Mine:

EDIT:
Now that I see the two side-by-side..... You did the % above or below what was registered. That does seem to work out, NVM.

What data are you using to do the contest points and PPD calc? Did a check of a couple of names with EOC stats and something seems a little off. Some are higher and some are lower for points today stats on EOC.

I don't know if I should be listening to people that have NOT signed up for the contest yet.

The way I did it was a % you are above or below your projected rate.  (i.e. 0% means you are right on target).  The way you did it, it was what portion of your reported output are you producing (i.e. 100% means you are right on target).  If you notice, are numbers are exactly the same with the exception that yours are100% higher (+100%) than mine.

Either way is fine with me...whatever you guys think is easiest to understand.

Response to PPD: its hourly stats provided to us by drougnor (be sure to thank him for all his hard work).  EOC updates every 3 hours and you can't tell within that window when a WU was completed.  It is ALWAYS an issue at the start that people bring up when comparing it to EOC.  Unless you start in a time period that corresponds to an EOC update, its going to be different.  I (think) the first pulled update was at 11:30 AM EDT this morning...

If you pulled the 11am stats, then your PPD calc should be based on a 10am start time. It looks like it is calculating using some other basis for figuring out the days portion of it. i.e. mflanaga should show as about 2 mil PPD right now instead of 500-600k PPD (these numbers are obviously skewed due to timing and duration)

Re:Official 2011 Time Zone Challenge Announcements 2011/10/22 10:58:26 (permalink)
I don't know about others, but I had to be somewhat conservative on my PPD estimate, even though recent EOC stats would indicate otherwise.  I also had to factor-in the few days that I know I can't Fold during TZC.

I primarily Fold/go after the larger Bigadvs (aka Bigbeta) WU's on my 980X and the PPD from them vs a standard Bigadv is significant.  However, those things can dry up over-night and can't be counted upon to always be available.  My most recent EOC stats would reflect (IMO) an unprecedented run of 6904 WUs (I've had 5 of them back-to-back this month).  So I decided to use standard Bigadvs for my PPD estimates.  I didn't want to "count" upon those Bigbetas' to be there.  Let me know if I need to figure things differently.

I sat conservative as well, because I knew what I could produce with what I'm running now, but I don't know what the big guns will produce once I get them fired up.

That is the time of the first WUs pulled for points simply because thats when I was working on it this morning. but the PPD for the sheet is based on a start time of midnight.
