I purchased the GTX 960 SSC for my son today.  Redeemed the code through Nvidia and was made to create an account with gog.com to redeem.  Is that correct????  I thought the game was STEAM?

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks
Bob

Actually it is NOT another program to run  - you can download it from GOG and play it how you like.

GOG is NOT another DRM / program running at all.

Gotcha.  It says I can't download until May.  Do I also get an activation code with it?  I am used to Nvidia with Steam...

typically when you get the code you put that in on the website and it registers the game to you. Since this game is not out until May 19th you can't predownload it yet.

Well at least you get some free games and movies when you create your gog account.
Still I to wish it was under Steam or Origin as I have The Witcher now under Origin.

GOG is the best way to go as it DOESN'T force you to install another program or have DRM unlike Steam/Origin.  I wish all of the game offers did this.

some of us like steam trading cards and achievements / the ability to message back a friend on steam while playing instead of ALT+TAB to even see who said what. so GOG in your opinion is the best way to go.

Once a game is downloaded and installed on a computer can you play the game without a connection to the Internet?

What I find hard to believe.  I was looking through their catalog...most games are old / older.  How did they score Witcher 3?

You can always add non steam games to steam to access chat while in game.  And yes, it is my opinion it is the best since it has no DRM unlike Steam/Origin/Uplay

There is no DRM, so no internet is needed.

Then buy the game on Steam. No one is forcing you to play it for free! DRM FREE!!! It's amazing that people will find something to complain about even a free $50 game. BTW if you took a second from trying to find everything negative in the world you would have realised you can add any non-steam game to Steam and still play with the overlay and chat while in game.

GOG.com (formerly Good Old Games) is a distribution service for PC games and (as of 28 August 2014) movies, operated by GOG Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CD Projekt based in WarsawPoland.[3] GOG delivers "classic" video games through its DRM-free digital platform forWindowsMac OS X and since July 2014 Linux

    ""
The offered digital goods (video games and movies) can be purchased and downloaded online and they are distributed without digital rights management.[6] The prices of products typically range from about $5 to $10 for older games, along with special offers in sales held several times a week. Some newer titles have a higher price. GOG.com's digital products can be also gifted to other persons via redeemable gift certificates.[7]
The user does not have to install special client software to download or run the games,[8] although an optional download manager is available. After downloading, the customer is free to use the software for any personal use like installing on multiple devices,[9] archiving on any personal storage media for unlimited time, modding and patching; with the restriction that reselling and sharing is not permitted.[10] The softwareinstallers are technically independent of the customer's GOG.com account, although still subject to GOG.com's EULA, where a "licensed, not sold" formulation is used.[10] The "licensed, not sold" model frequently raises questions of ownership of digital goods.[11] In the European Union, the European Court of Justice held that a copyright holder cannot oppose the resale of a digitally sold software, in accordance with the rule of copyright exhaustion on first sale as ownership is transferred, and questions therefore the "licensed, not sold" EULA  ""

That's OK I plan on running my came for free.

But do remember that we were forced to run games under DRM.
We lost the ability to buy a DVD game and play it with having an internet connection and then forcing to create a account only to play a game.
More User Names More Passwords and yes more of finding everything negative. This is America we only report bad or negative news.

Guess I am just not used to the old way...sounds like GOG is a good thing.  I am just looking forward to the game.  They are estimating 200 + hours of gameplay...can't remember every spending that much time on one game...
