I was reading this thread I am tired atm but I did not read where you updated your video cards bios.  Have you done this?  If not what is holding you back from doing so?

Yes, I flashed both cards (without any problems) about a week ago to the 1.4 580 BIOS from EVGA
*the Videocard BIOS has been ruled out as the cause of my issue.

I don't know if it helps maniac, but there is 100% fact that these latest drivers have some sort of power initialization error/bug on the pci-e lanes dependent on what power state they are in. Some of us, myself included, have posted in the f@h section of these forums about this issue and that a new WU wouldn't start if the cards video signal was in a certain P state.

Im willing to bet your issues are somewhat related to this and its most likely a (poor) attempt by Nvidia to introduce some new power-saving code into these latest drivers.

I agree
As I have posted before, I am -extremely- upset that Nvidia's attempt to "fix" some of its driver powerstate,TLDR issues and prep for Windows 8, has resulted in my system being turned into a Nvidia customer testing zone, at my expense....

Thanks alot Nvidia. In trying a fix an issue that I NEVER had in the first place, my system now boots to the desktop at 800x600 without a videodriver using the latest signed official Nvidia driversets.

If after spending the 20-30hrs of my time to work thru all the steps to completely reconfigure my system, and it still does not work correctly...

Nvidia and EVGA will find that I am not customer that can be screwed out of $1500 worth of hardware and a $1000 worth of my time.
And what really chaps my hide the most...
Nvidia 295.73 installs and runs just fine on my 8800GTS 640mb installed on a 2005 939/Opteron system running XP.
It just wont work on EVGA's x58mb with a pair of 580's using Windows 7

Why lump EVGA in with it if you are sure it is Nvidia's drivers causing you pain?  Just roll back to older drivers that work and call it a day.  It is truly strange that you seem to have done extensive troubleshooting and still have problems.  Have you tried setting your monitor to never sleep?  That has helped me avoid any power state issues with the latest drivers while folding/gaming.

While it may be Nvidia's drivers, EVGA is its retail vendor, and I am a EVGA customer and EVGA responsible for what it sells. A $1000 worth of videocards is just two fancy bricks without a working driver.
Dont get me wrong, I love EVGA and have no plans to stop... I just want to light a fire and get the latest official Nvidia driverset to work correctly.

Thank you for the monitor suggestion, but my problem is releated to booting Windows and having my videocards detected properly and the Nvidia driver loading.

Myself personally I would have already taken a spare drive, formatted it, and performed a virgin install of the OS. Maniac, you know over a period of time you done many erm... 'non standard' changes to your configuration. Perhaps your BCD store has become corrupted, On a single/dual boot system the BCD store is accessed to determine the configuration very early in the process. Bit of reading:

Maniacvvv....something is definetly screwy with these drivers.....I really haven't had any problems until this driver...keeping an eye out on this thread and a few others as I keep getting blue screens, crashes, etc.  and yes I have followed your driver guide for quite some time (to the letter...btw) and this is the ONLY driver giving me problems...not even the betas acted up this bad...lol....hopefully Nvidia will fire the "B" driver team and "A" team can put out working drivers.

Thank you very much for the links

I use the "Boot Manager" setup with my dual OS and my C:/ drive (what I'm testing on) is the primary BCD. My secondary SSD OS is on G:/
*It should be noted that I have (for testing) disconnected -all- my other drives. The result was the same.

I will do more reading on this tonight, Thank you Sir

This reason for this is simple, I have needed the use of my system and have not had the "days" of downtime required to do so.

Since when did it become required to reinstall ones OS for a simple Nvidia driver install?
Remember, there are zero issues with 285.79 and below. True corruption somewhere in the OS would most likely lead to issues no matter what driver I was using, once it occured.

I will be doing the BIOS flash and OS reinstall, but Im trying to make sure everything else has been looked at.

Where the hell will I be, if after all that effort I still have the same problem?

If you have the same problem. I would just throw in the towel and consider it a driver issue. Imagine going through 7 months of not being able to upgrade drivers and troubleshooting with 2 completely different systems. It happened to me. The whole time it was the drivers as these latest whql work fine. I could not update any thing past 275.33 Some driver releases are not going to work 100% with every single configuration. Fact. It just happens. It is up to Nvidia to fix the problems. You are only behind 1 driver release. That is not to bad. Any thing past that and I would be fuming. I hope it works out for you. I can only imagine how pissed and irritated you are. I know exactly how you feel man.

Since never. You should not reformat anything, you should just try a clean OS to see if the problem is still there (then you can go back to your normal drive).

That's because it's a fast way (faster than all your tests) to see if it's a software or hardware related problem.

On my system, I have a dual boot with my normal Windows 7 64bit installation and a clean one on a VHD file on another drive.
If I have the suspect that something wrong has a software reason I just retest the "problem" on that "clean" drive.
Everytime, the problem was a software one and inspecting logs on both systems I could easily find and solve the issues.

You already asserted this many times but for sure the problem is caused BOTH by your system BOTH by driver timings.
That doesn't mean the culprit are the drivers, maybe thay're just a tad faster and by doing so they trigger some "race condition" which causes your problem.
That is very common in software.
As a programmer, I had to deal with timings (expecially on old slow systems and very fast newer systems).

IMHO, you're loosing time.
Get an OLD HD, format it and install windows 7 64 on it.
Install the nvidia drivers, 3dmark11 and Heaven Benchmark.
Make it smoke and do your tests and see if your problem is still there.

What is you memory configuration? nVidia drivers are very sensitive to RAM timings.  I ran across a post on Intel.com that said most MBs don't support 4 sticks of RAM even if they have the slots for them. I an now running 295.51 after swapping 4 sticks for 2 sticks for the same total memory.  They said another choice is to bump the RAM voltage by one step if your MB supports that.  YMMV. Good luck.

Unless I missed it the only thing that I see you haven't tried short of the format and OS install is to update the NIC driver. Wouldn't it be easier to try that first?

This wouldn't be the first time I've seen new drivers for one piece of hardware conflict with 2+ year old drivers for a different piece of hardware. Alternately just disable all NIC's so that driver is not loading (no conflicts?) then test the system(not very practical if you're testing for days)

No driver after 285.79 is working correctly on my system.

The "latest" testing (7 driver installs) has been done using the official signed 295.73 driverset.

The driver installs/configures correctly, and tests perfectly in Mark11 and Heaven and was flawless for 15hrs in BF3...
But within 24hrs, a random cold boot to the desktop will not properly detect the videocards (Code 43) and load without the driver.

I use (3) 2gig sticks in triple channel mode, capable of 2000 speed, but run them relaxed at around 1490 and 1.65v
CAS 7 Mushkin Redline 991's
Neither the memory nor the IMC are under a stress condition

Tested and stable since 2009, latest retest was Nov 2011 with memtest and a 5/20/40 passes Linx

I have the exact same issues with my system. I've heard of a possible fix to resolve a conflict with the Realtek LAN driver and found it at the nVidia Forums but can't find it now. The fix somehow involves uninstalling the Realtek drivers using 'Device Manager' and deleting the software. After a 'clean' installation of the GeFarce(sic) drivers and rebooting, you need to re-install the LAN drivers and this will supposedly resolve an IRQ conflict between a video board and the LAN. I haven't had the time or the patience to find the 'fix' or to experiment with my system since my performance with the older WHQL drivers perform very well with FPS in BF3 rarely falling under 100.

I tried the 7.27 Realtek drivers and they wouldn't work, at all. I used the 7.36 drivers that shipped with my motherboard's installation disk and everything is in order for now. I only shut down for a few minutes but graphics were fine when I re-started. I will know for sure tomorrow morning after it sits overnight. Thanks for the links, SilverDragon68.

Stop troubleshooting. It is the drivers. http://forums.nvidia.com/...findpost&p=1379198

Are you referring to notebook or desktop? The driver not loading in SLI mode issue is fixed and will be in a driver release update soon. If you are referring to a few notebooks loading without drivers installed, we are still working on a fix for this issue.

You mean EVGA isn't the only troubleshooting computer forum out there?
This is painful to even fathom.

Actually I do. And it was not meant as a smart ass remark either. Some times when making a thread. I will also make one over at Nvidia forums. Evga and Nvidia community's are my favorite sites for answers regarding Nvidia cards. I was just surprised that he might have missed that post about this problem on the Nvidia forums. And that came from a actual Nvidia rep.

I am extremely happy to report that Nvidia driver 296.10 has completely solved my issue with cold boot driver failure.

It was NOT a system, config or OS problem... it was a driver bug, that has now been patched.

I am pleased to (at last) be able to run current official signed Nvidia drivers after 5 months of being stuck on 285.79

Thank you to all (and to EVGA) for your support, suggestions and helpfulness in this matter.

My issue is resolved
