Hey guys, i just overclocked my CPU to 4.5hz, and i want it to show under windows or in programs such as Speccy, that my clock speed is higher than the stock clock which is 3.5hz.
Is there a way to this? I use the evga Z87 FTW motherboard.

That is correct for your CPU is listed the correct way that is. Processor Base Frequency  3.5 GHz

No, I have ran 8 different tools and all show only the Base Clock.
You could write your own program to show the clock speed you would like to see but then it would not be a standard so to speak.
Remember to that your are Not really allowed to Overclock your CPU per Intel.

Please note the word "Specification: ...".  Specification means that it is showing you the official rating of the CPU.  No amount of overclocking will cause Intel's specification for your CPU to change.

For argument sake, if Intel's policy is that we are not supposed to overclock our CPUs, then why do they release CPUs such as the K models? which are overclockable?

Overclocking a CPU is not the Turbo Speed a Processor.
As with my CPU http://ark.intel.com/products/82930/Intel-Core-i7-5960X-Processor-Extreme-Edition-20M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz
The Turbo Speed for my CPU is 3.5 GHz and I overclock mine to 4.3 GHz and up to 5 GHz.
I also have some K CPUs.

I understand that, and so when a user "overclocks" his processor, is that breaking Intel's policy?

If so, I don't understand why Intel would release the K-processors then.

You will need to ask Intel that Question.

It's very tempting to. I have read somewhere that overclocking the processor will void the warranty. I seriously want to reply to them, "then why do you provide the ability for it to do that?"

I've heard from my local computer store that overclocking a K version won't void your warranty. But only if you extreme overclock it.
But I do not know what the limit is for standard overclock. Guess the only way to find out is to ask Intel. I think it should say so on the box though.

Re: Not showing overclocked speed of CPU in windows/speccy 2016/05/03 05:24:41 (permalink)
Intel has not tested, and does not warranty, the operation of a processor beyond its specifications..That is what they say and it is written in stone.

Overclocking a processor by just raising the multiplier on a processor with an unlocked multiplier would not void the warranty because the unlocked multiplier is part of the Intel specification for that processor..Increasing the Vcore beyond the processor's VID Voltage Range at a given frequency would..VID Voltage Range is the minimum and maximum voltage values at which the processor is designed to operate within it's frequency range and can be found in the processor's data sheet..VID can vary in different processors of the same kind, depending on the quality of the chip, like ASIC quality can vary on graphics card chips of the same kind.

In How to Overclock Your CPU with Unlocked Intel® Processors, Intel explains "How to Overclock Your CPU in 3 easy steps"..Right.
1. Go to the BIOS
2. Change the multiplier
3. Save your settings..*poof* magic.
And that is all..Nothing more, nothing less..Nothing about Vcore or anything else.

However, for a minimal fee, Intel offers their Performance Tuning Protection Plan for certain select processors (your i7-4770K being one of them) that offers a no-questions-asked (supposedly), one-time replacement for an eligible processor that fails while running outside of Intel’s specifications (overclocked) or those that feel the risk of overclocking is too great..You can get there from the bottom of the page in the link above and get the dope on that.

Without the Performance Tuning Protection Plan, one would need to jump through all Intel's hoops to get a processor replaced under warranty and that the chances of that happening would be almost zero, if not zero, or less-than-zero, ..I tried that about three years ago and luckily had one replaced by the retailer..Intel won't even warranty a processor if they find out/you tell them you've used anything but a stock Intel cooler or have Thermal Protection disabled in the BIOS, among other things like even being scratched let alone overclocked.

All this is just from what I know and understand, but the best thing to do is research and read all the warranty fine print and Contact Intel like you said if you have questions.

I use the Performance Tuning Protection Plan for all my CPUs.

No reason to purchase the plan unless you're planning on telling Intel you overclocked the processor when it fails.

I covers all failures for a CPU as in Bent Pins on the CPU Socket can cause a CPU burn up as well.
No need@

Where exactly does it state that?
