Hmm... I could see them doing something like that in the US pretty soon. A lot of the bigger stations are using HD radio all ready.

MSI MEG Z490 ACE | Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master

It's not HD as much as that with digital signal you can sub-divide the spectrum assigned to a lot more channels.

They better figure out how to make this change and still have a FM radio pick it up here in the states.

Na, they'll do like analog tv and just sell the excess spectrum to mobile companies.

Me too and I don't want to change my factory Porsche radio, it fits the style of the dash perfectly, plus my car has the upgraded Bose system in it. After market radios in that dash look horrible.

Most if not all cars come with digital radio and FM/AM from the factory. I'm surprised Porsche
factory radios don't have that capability.

Looked into this some more. Although it was for the UK, it seems companies offer kits to add DAB to factory FM radios.

lol, yes and no. I listen to only one radio station KQRC 98.9 The Rock. The morning crew is awesome to listen to, but when they are done it's shut up and time to Rock!

Interesting. Does that mean I'll be able to pick up someone's phone calls with my radio?

It will be painful but I think a digital switchover for FM would be good the long-run like the TV signals. Probably be boxes to attach to antennas to still use older radios.

I don't think it's going to happen in the US anytime soon. There are kits in the UK market to add DAB to your current radio. I'm sure we'll have the same kits here.

You "could" get a nice 2 din touch screen. It would look pretty decent, just need to pick out the right brand. I'm sure there's someone out there that could give you some tips on it.

Edit : Assuming you went that route, you see the 2 bottom trays? you could put a nice equalizer and a nice crossover there too, if you're into that stuff.

I don't want that. This is a simple sports car, I wish to keep it that way and the factory Bose system sound just fine. There all all kinds of things you can do, some are very cool,

but I want to keep my car as a simple pure sports car, not a rolling techno gadget.

AM radio in the US is still alive. It's where you find most of the sports/talk shows.

IMO that looks like crap. The LCD colors don't even match. I do agree that most aftermarkets don't fit right and don't look that good.

The 3 channels that I try to listen to on FM have too much cross talk with other stations south of me. I wish they would fix it or start turning to AM.
IDK how they plan on doing this. HD car stereos can be costly. Maybe the radio stations will broadcast on both AM and Digital for 5-10 years.

Actually they do match in color, I think it's the angle that's throwing it off. The dash digital gauges are the same color as those too and when the lights are on the cluster backlight is the same color.

Although I did say I want to keep the interior pure, I am looking at getting this HUD as Porsche put the digital speedometer on the far left gauge and at the bottom of it. I really don't like taking my eyes off the road to look down there to see my speed.

The 986 Boxster has a bridge over the instrument cluster. I think I could mount it under that bridge are and barely be noticeable.

I don't think AM is going anywhere anytime soon. It is the most basic radio you can get and you can make a Foxhole radio in a pinch that does not even need batteries. If there is a huge emergency that lasts a while it may be the best way to get info out to people.

Android cell phones have a built in FM radio, but is disabled on some makers/carriers, and I wish they could add an AM radio in them too. Probably no AM due to the electrical interference from the phone but I would rather use an AM/FM (and possibly short wave if they could add it) function of my phone instead of relying on the cell network and in an emergency/no cell service area I could still get info about what is happening in the world.
