Hello, I have a Gateway 5028GT with an integrated Nvidia 6100 graphics, 1mb ram and: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor 3800+ * 2.0 GB * 2000 MHz front side bus * L2 cache: 512 KB x2 The built in graphics on the motherboard failed. So I acquired a used Nvidia 7800GT and installed it. I installed a gaming 600 watt PSU for extra power. This card later failed (after 4-5 months) when I started no longer getting a signal to the monitor. I just installed another card, like new that I bought, an EVGA e-GeForce 9500GT 1GB DDR2 PCI-Express Video Card with 2 x DVI-I, 1 x tv Out. Originally, I didn't get a signal to the monitor upon installation and after starting it the 3rd time it worked fine. 5 days later, I recently had to reboot my computer after steam (DOD source) locked up and now the same problem is happening: no signal to monitor. I have checked the cables and re-installed the card but still the same problem. Please help with any information you may have. Thanks.

Make sure you disable the onboard video in the BIOS and set PCI-E to the primary display adapter.

Upon initial installation of the card, I did install the latest drivers. The computer was working fine for about 5 days. I think the Bios settings may be fine since it was working however since I have no picture at all on the monitor, I cannot access the Bios settings at this time. And due to the integrated graphics also not working, I have no way of using a monitor. I thought perhaps the psu may be the problem but after reviewing the specs of the psu and the card, it seems okay. You mentioned above that the motherboard might be bad. Is that a common occurrence? Thanks again.

I have only had one board fail on me so far. I sold it to someone to RMA. I don't think it is very common among custom builds as much as it is on pre-built systems. These boards are mass produced with little QA and never seem to last long. Why do you think pre-built systems are so cheap? Cheap board=lower price/higher profit margin. When the system starts up do you get any beeps? you want one short beep. If you have another system to test the card that would be great. Seeing as the integrated video failed and now your discrete card is not working, I would wager a bad board.

There must be a way to get to the BIOs. I still think there might be an integrated graphics setting somewhere that you can disable. It couldn't hurt to try it.

That is somewhat promising. It means the board at least can POST. To be 99% sure it is the card you really need to test it in a different system. The 9500GT is a low power card, so, any system with a 300W PSU and a PCI-e 16x slot will work. What brand of power supply is it by chance?

There's usually a keybind for desktops as well and I am not sure if this is correct or not but CTRL + F8 sometimes will work. You might want to try and look for default keybinds that will depict, like a laptop, where the image is being put through. Or, simply try a different DVI slot to see if 1 of them quit working. Or possibly, the monitor could have gone bad.

I agree with senistr, a bad monitor (or more common, video cable) could also be your problem.

Yeah i've ran into that problem many times where a person's Video card has took a crap, or the monitor dived out. I've seen it all. But that's because I am a computer tech for the US Army haha. If you have a way to test your monitor, then I would suggest doing so. Just because you here the monitor turn on, with a LED light showing green, doesn't neccesarily mean it's working in optimal condition. If it's the old box style, the tubes are known to go out at any given time, as well as LCD's burning out, which i've seen happen.
