Alright, after that little bit of info I decided to very meticulously read the directions on Standford's site and guess what? It worked!!! I'm folding my first windows -bigadv. Its only using 42% of my RAM. Funny how the month I go out and buy an extra 3 gigs of ram just to fold bigadv in linux, they toss it out the window...  Now I'm just waiting on the first 1-2% completion so that I can figure out my new ppd.

HFM is telling me that my TPF is 1hr, 9mins. PPD is 1859. ETA 4 days 17 hours. I have HMF configured so that it shows the bonus on the units. My comps CPU is maxed.  Is this right? PPD seems about 10% of the norm.

Yeah, that doesn't look right. If your CPU is at 3.77GHz, it should be running much faster.

I'm running my CPU at 3.75 ghz right now. One GPU client running on a GTX 260. Thats about it...

Give it some more time to adjust the time , or look at the benchmarks viewer.
Dependig on what you´re using for the time frame (l3f, effective rate,...) times and ppd can vary quite a bit. Or look at your log if the tpf is really that high

Alright, sounds good. I'll let it run a couple more hours and we'll see if things speed up. You guys have been a great help. This forum has to be one of the best for folding!

it should speed up a bit, i have my i7 920 at 3.8 and getting ~53 min average with a single GPU client running on my 285

with linix VM was getting ~46 min average, bit slower and harder to hit deadlines, but still works out :)

Ok, like you guys suggested, it needed some time to balance. Once I set HFM to calculate PPD based on the last frame my PPD jumped to 16k.  51 TPF and I'm also using the PC to listen to music/surf the web.

Hey guys I just fired this client up but am only using 16% of my CPU. Where do I change the flag for -smp 7 or 8?
Is it in the console during set up??

Either in the console config, or the desktop shortcut - your choice really.

That looks right to me.  Also, mpich requires a password on the computer, and you'll need a passkey setup as well.

It's the Win SMP2 setup with the flags -smp and -bigadv.

Re:No more Linux Bigadv 2010/07/03 19:02:53 (permalink)
i7 should really run it at 3.8 min (3.6 can make it as well maybe bit lower if the system is dedicated)

53 TPF is not normal for 3.8 ghz (should be more like 47-48 TPF) make sure the WinSMP is running on all cores (-smp on its own will do, you do not Need to Put any numbers in it will auto pick the max amount of cpu threads you have)

unlike the vmware folding, winsmp will actively back off if any cpu is used, check task manager for any CPU use press the button at the bottom (vista or higher tick show all process) and then sort the columns by cpu use and sort out the a fending item

make sure you do not have any fancy screensavers as most are cpu based, anything animated on screen (msn like programs minimizing them norm stops cpu use)

i use opera my self so that norm adds 1-2 mins to the time frames if left open but i do have 30-40 tabs open so 7% cpu use is very good really, make sure you got Flash 10.1 as well and up to date video card drivers so flash can off load the video to the video card (works really well on supported video cards 8600 (real 256mb) or higher ATI most likely 5xxx only, maybe 4xxx as well)

a first place in team evga for points today ( 282,162 ) ;) and still a few hours left. ( 350k ppd rising ) impact would have been much bigger (2x) if linux bigadv would still be on. well pande guess you dont need the fast work units from the linux people.
guess i have to finish getting the evga cards to glow under wine to make up for that.
within the week ppd will be low again until i can test things at the next weekend.

all kinds of cpus (from dual 8core xeons to dual core intel/amd). im testing scheduling and loadbalancing of a grid network and getting measurements to adjust the host priorities in the grid based on the computed performance values. and while not do something good while at it... . all those systems are the portion that are idle in the grid and the jobs have the lowest priority. now i have to get everything set up to be able to use those hosts that are cuda compatible. later people can use the setup for their personal cuda projects.
