Not a one here, all gpu's empty. Thanks eggheads at Stanford, man I wish I had your non technical skills, or is it just a lack consideration for all the people that THEY asked to volunteer resources and time to help wth THERE research. My mind set is that if I were running that program I would have been all over this problem last night and stayed on it till it was fixed instead of submitting a work request and then kicking back and waiting to see what happens which is exactly what that link to the psot on the  fah website said they did.

Despite the current server issues, Stanford's servers have been doing a good job keeping up the last few months. Server problems used to be a daily issue.
If they don't get going soon I will have to turn my heater up a degree or two. It's starting to get cold in here.

All 5 of my GPUs are flatlined as well.  Checked them again this morning and Nada.  All I've been getting are a bunch of A1 cores on the VMWare SMPs...even after adding the passkey to get the a3 WUs (unless I didn't do something right).

Hope they get the problem fixed soon.

Wich client are your vms using? still the old 6.24 or the new 6.29(required for the A3 wu)?
If you are on notfreds, just restart the vm and see if it downloads 6.24 or 6.29
The other possibity would be to go back to the win smp

Re:No GPU work to do? 2010/02/15 06:31:32 (permalink)
You know...I'm not really sure.  I am on the notfreds, and I had to restart the VM after I added the passkey to get it to take effect.  Also, I've noticed that since I added the passkey, I've not received a single a2 core.  They've all been a1 cores, which are very slow compare to the a2 cores.

I'll have to check when I get home this evening to see which client it's using.  I hadn't really paid attention.  So, here's the question.  If the notfreds unit is not downloading the 6.29 core, is there a set of instructions somewhere (perhaps in another post) that will explain what I need to do to get the notfreds VMware to work with the new client?

I tried 6.29 in Notfreds, but got better ppd with native win smp2. It's much better than the old win smp.

If its downloading the .29 you shouldn´t have to do anything.
If your are using Linuxrouters image upgrade to version 1.1
I´ve gone back to the win smp ver 6.29 (less maintenance and almost same ppd as vm and A2)  with the A3 wu

Will it fold using all 4 cores on a C2Quad 9400 using the windows SMP?

The only way to use 6.29 in Notfreds is to add it to the vmdk, or modify the init script so that it downloads 6.29

edit: Yes it uses all 4 cores. Getting about ~10000 ppd with my sig 9550

You can bet on that!
My q66 at stock clocks with 2 gpus gets ~3500 ppd and my q9650 @ stock with 3 gpus ~4000  running only one instance
without gpus 4000 and 6000 ppd

Yeah, I was getting roughly 4k ppd on my quad at stock clocks running the a2 cores.  I quickly scanned the link the linux router's upgrade to the VMWare image, so I think I'll give that a shot first.

The greater concern is since I only have a quad-core, I doubt I can run the -bidadv work units since I only have the 4 cores.

you don´t have to run the bigadv with linuxrouters image. Just don´t enter -bigadv and enter -smp -advmethods (-verbosity 9, if you wnat to have a little more detailed log))

The client will only see 4 cores so it won't allow bigadv. They would take too long on a quad anyway.

Hey smart mouth, if you would have actually read my post instead of just copping a sanctimonious attitude, If I were in charge of the project I would have been there last night when the problem started instead of submitting a work request and waiting until the next day to fix it since it is of such high importance to scientific research.

The guys in charge of the project are PHD's in biology related science, not technology.  Guess who they submitted a work request to?  The techies.

Your attitude of "they better not have any problems and if they do they better fix it instantaneously" has really gotten to me.  Obviously what is required to maintain that many servers, sending and receiving that many work units, and recording points, is extremely complex.  Somethings just can't be fixed fast.  they just migrated servers, and you expect there to not be a single issue in that transition?

The guys at Pande group work extremely hard.  They often work through the night to fix problems.  Vijay devotes an absurd amount of time to the project.

Honestly, you are losing nothing (in fact your saving a bit on your power bill) except points because of the server being down.  I want the servers back up because fo the benefit to science as well, but I understand that there is no magic switch they can flip to fix everything.  They are doing the best they can, be appreciative of that.

Thanks for the posts. It's early AM in Califorina (that's why this went unfixed for several hours), but I think we've got everything going again. I've contacted Joe regarding this issue: there was a WS bug.

I've also balanced the weights so the other NV WS's can get into the mix better and improve the redundancy.

http://foldingforum.org/v...;t=13434&start=120

so hopefully we should be able to get and send work again soon

edit: going full speed again

It seems to be working again, all my GPUs have picked up new WUs and are back to folding..... Shame I'm going to miss the 5 million points mark before the folding year closes.
