    What's wrong with cartridges? They are great. They are way faster and smaller than CD systems and they're quite durable and collectable. Only thing better than a cartridge is an internet connection and fast download. Owning a cartridge is sometimes more rewarding than a download, though. Plus, cartridges help them control against pirated games and viruses immensely.

    Japan still uses faxs as a main way of sending documents at work. I doubt they gor the memo yet.

    UM updates, patches/fixes - can't be attached to physical cartridges
    DLC can't be attached to cartridges
     
    like games nowadays adapt, grow, get bigger - get fixes, updates, and DRM updates - because no physical DRM is unbreakable - look at CD and past game cartridges
    And second Physical media Fails - better to have digital download - and re-download for life in case something goes wrong - loss, data corruption
     
    physical DRM is the easiest to break because the key is usually physically on Machine
