I have been running two Thermaltake FRIOs on the two Xeon E5620 clocked to about 3.4-3.5ghz for a while now and while they did their job very well for a $60 cooler they just were not letting me push my system.  Water was looking like the only real option if I'm going to push my Xeons to their prime but the question was for how cheap can I build a water loop for them?  I had an H50 on my i7 920 in my earlier ARSENAL X58 E760 system and had great success with it so I took a second look at Corsair's Hydro line up and went with the H70s.

The only way to really mount them in my DD Tower 29 was to build a custom bracket and add a breather holes in the side panel.  I will be adding a dimensioned drawing later in this post for any one who wishes to remake the bracket.  As of this post i haven't modded my side panel yet.  However I should be completely done tomorrow and will begin reinventing my OC.

Here are some pictures for your entertainment!

Interesting set-up :) It'll be neat to see how close the CPU temps are to each other and may be a good way to critique corsairs quality control? Also, are you only going to run one fan per H70? Just curious from the stand point of if there will be a performance hit. Can't wait to see the new OC.

i am running one fan for each H70, but they are not the Corsair ones.  I have two Delta PWM fans that can push close to 150 cfm but are loud as h3ll maxed out.  Will be doing some testing later tonight with the OC hopefully.

Well I'm having trouble getting a Prime95 stable OC however I ran my system at stock clocks with Prime95 maxing out all 16 threads. It ran for 7 plus hours until i woke up and turned it off.  Temps sat below 45C under that load.  Will be attempting to get a 3+ghz Prime95 stable OC later with these H70s.

Just curious why you didn't spend $50 more and get better blocks, rad, etc.?

While the mod looks pretty damn neat, I bet you could have squeezed quite a bit more performance from a larger WC loop.

In retrospect i guess i could have built a custom WC loop.  I guess it was just the fact I was more familiar with the Corsair H70.  I haven't dealt with custom water setups. For me this was the quickest alternative for getting better temps on my CPUs.
Im waiting to do a vid-card upgrade before a total WC setup happens.  Mainly so i can do it all at once.  The case will support a quad 140mm rad and a triple 360mm rad.  I was planning on making dual loops, one for the mobo/cpus, and one for the newer vid-cards.  Im waiting to see what steps up over the GTX480 from nVidea.  Until newer cards are released i'm just going to stick with my two 295s in quad SLI.
I managed to finally get a Prime95 stable OC at 3.2Ghz.  I ran Prime 95 all night and it only hit mid 50s in temps which i was relieved to see.  More updates later.

Thanks for the BR!  As promised here is the ACAD drawing of the basic mount.  Details on the fan mounts i left off to keep clutter down.  When i went to draw it on the Acrylic i just traced two 120mm fans and that method of getting the proper hole dimensions worked well.  As far as mounting it inside the case it may differ based on how a Tower 29 is  set up.  This template may not work perfectly with some set-ups and really is just for a general idea of what to go off of.  Hope this helps some one!

Nikko, I REALLY like your bracket and mod using the 2 x H70s. I'd like to feature your mod on the Corsair blog and use your photographs. Is that OK?

I would love for this to be featured!!!  And thanks for asking.  Please send me a link to it once you have it up.

Ill get more pics once i finish the mod.  as of now its still about 90% complete and still need to mod the side panel.  My E5620s (OC'ed to 3.2) idle at near room temp (25C) with the H70s which is amazing!
