Hi all

After my last upgrade, I am realizing that my current setup is just too loud to listen music properly. It seems that watercooling is the only option to eliminate the loud roar of most of the high CFM fans I have in my rig now. I will be cooling the rig in my signature.

I want to start slow by cooling the CPU first and maybe the chipset. I have a ton of hard drives in my box and a very large power supply so I believe I will be using a Danger Den external 3 x 360 Radiator and Pump Case to house dual 360 radiators, a reservoir and pump.

Here are some links to the parts I am considering:
The case to house the bulky stuff of course:

A pair of BlackIce SR-1 360 Radiators

I gather by what I am reading that dual 360's should handle CPU, chipset and a pair of dual high end video cards such as 580's just fine.

A 400ml Liquid Fusion V Reservoir

I think I will start with about 20ft of blue 1/2" ID 3/4" OD blue Fesser tubing

An EK-Supreme high flow CPU block

I want to use compression fittings where ever possible but I am not really sure what to get as all the different sizes and numbers seem totally confusing.  I am thinking that larger thicker hose should be better in dealing with good flow and lessening kinks and such. Any recommendations on the types and brands of fittings to get? I am not seeing compression fittings for 1/2"ID and 3/4" OD tubing. Do they exist?

Also I am not sure what to get to cool the classified 3 chipset. Any ideas? Is chipset cooling restrictive to the rest of the loop?

I will not initially cool the video cards. I plan on replacing the both the 5870 and 4870x2 later this year when some die shrinks occur in the GPU world and I will replace both my cards then.

I can see one definite downside to an external cooling tower and that is there are two large bulky pieces tethered to one another. I am thinking that I would need a pair of quick connects or something with self sealing valves or manual  90degree valves to shutoff the flow from main rig to Rad/pump box.  Anyone have comments on this issue?

Based on current practice that I have read here in tutorials I understand that I should also get distilled water and an additive such as: Silver kill coils

or should I get one of the AlphaCool products?

Any advice, comments and would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Here's the block for the Classified 3: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_241_589&products_id=25769

Silver kill coil would be better than any additive, based on my experience.

To quick disconnect the water tower from your rig, you'd use 2 of each of these:

For your Compression fittings, yes they do exist in 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD. You can find them here:

Also, here's the link to the 45 degree compressions, and 90 degree compressions.

You may also want to put a small PSU in the water tower for the Pump and fans, otherwise you won't have power for them. You can do this by getting a small 400-500W PSU, putting a bent paper clip in the green wire, and a black wire to jump start it. Then, you will only need to unplug the PSU from the wall when you are going to shut down the pump/fans. (Useful for when you're disconnecting your rig and the tower.)
