I've built dozens of computers, but this build on a Z68/P67 with a 2500K has me stumped. No matter what I do I get a screen saying "Adapter 1, Disks Information: No hard disk detected". The new disk was a Seagate 1500 GB formatted to NTFS with no files of any sort on the disk. Reset BIOS several times, changed the SATA cable, changed the socket the cable was plugged into etc. Same result no matter what I did. Got out a new Western Digital hard drive and formatted it to NTFS on another machine -- same results. I have gone through the BIOS setup numerous times searching for some setting that might explain or correct the problem -- but found nothing that seemed even relevant.

Created a Windows boot CD on another machine and tried to boot from it -- but got a BSOD saying a fault had been detected etc.

Both the hard disks in question are seen if I cable them into another machine.

The bottom line is that after several days of trying, I have been unable to even get to the point where I can load Windows.
Ant suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

I assume you have Windows 7 xxx distribution disk.  You should be able (should ?) to boot from that disk.  Assuming you have a DVD that is SATA and you have made the choice in BIOS to boot 1. DVD, 2, HDD / SSD, 3 N/A.   When you get into  Window CD. you have the choice to FORMAT from that CD the HDD you have (provided that the BIOS and the Win CD have seen the drive.  After the Format you should (?) be able to load Windows.

If you are using Windows 8 ... all the above may be B.S. as Windows 8 has driver Issues and may not recognize your DVD/CD drive.
    Good Luck.

    Ken,
    Thanks for the reply.

The harddrive is formatted. The problem is that one of the first steps in the bootup is to scan for a hard drive -- and since the BIOS doesn't detect the presence of a hard drive the bootup hangs. The BIOS does detect the DVD/CD drive which is why I tried a Windows boot disk -- which gave a BSOD.

Spent more time on the problem today and got absolutely nowhere. Very frustrating.

The i5 2500K is a good overclocking CPU so eventually I will give up and buy another motherboard. The problem has to be my unfamilarity with the EVGA MB -- first time I have tried to build using one.

    Note added:
Since nothing else works I tried booting from my Windows 7 installation disk. It gets to the place where a message appears saying press any key to boot from CD or DVD -- but no key stroke is recognized. The keyboard is recognized if I am not trying to boot from a DVD or CD -- for example Cntrl/Alt/Del will restart the boot process if I am not trying to boot from a DVD or CD.

the no disc detected thing comes up because its the setting for the op rom in the bios I believe, if that's what your referring to. if you disable it it wont say it anymore. Im not sure if it was this sandy build I did, but I had to format the new hdd in a windows environment on another rig and then install it to my new build. did you try that?

I will answer for him.  In his first post of this thread, he said he formated on another machine and I believe for 2 different HDDs.
