Just finished building a new Z97 Classified rig and I had to share my experience.

Every component was new except the case and the monitor, so I was half expecting a hiccup or two along the way. I put it together and it booted first time no problem, even the XMP settings were accepted and ran without issue. I'm just stoked how relatively painless this build was, so I had to share my joy, and thank EVGA for making quality products. I liked the placement of the motherboard USB3 port for the front case ports btw - much better.

Only two 'issues' with the entire build (if you can call them issues):
- the stock fans on the Corsair H105 were loud as hell.. immediately replaced them with a couple of Aerocool DS fans. Problem solved.
- the SATA ports number from bottom to top.. I was used to them being numbered from top to bottom from the X79 Dark. I swapped the cables around to satisfy my OCD. :)

Have not attempted to overclock yet, just finished the marathon Windows 7 pro updates, and now installing all my software etc.. Here's the components:

EVGA Z97 Classified motherboard
Intel i7-4790k
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz (4 x 4GB - model CMD16GX3M4A2400C10)
EVGA GTX-980Ti SC (with the Titan blower) - ASIC quality 76.3%
Corsair H105 CPU cooler
EVGA Supernova 850 P2 PSU (first time for years I have not used Corsair)
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (primary SSD - o/s)
Corsair Carbide Air 540 case (white)
ASUS PB278Q 27" monitor (2560x1440)

Also have to mention the new case fans I tried.. "be quiet!" Silent Wings 2 - yes, the brand name is "be quiet!". These fans are the quietest case fans I've ever used - significantly quieter then even the Aerocool DS fans I was using previously. I wouldn't use them as radiator fans as they probably haven't got enough pressure, but for case fans they are amazing.

I'll update signature and ModsRigs in due course, but very happy with this rig, after a somewhat failed Z170 Stinger build (issues with Windows 7 compatibility with some drivers on that platform). This is my first non-SLI build for years, but the 980Ti SC is one powerful card, so don't think I really need a 2nd card at this stage... of course I may add another at some stage anyway.. *starts making Tim the Tool Man Taylor grunting noises*

Hope you're all enjoying the Thanksgiving break.

Nice choices all around. I especially like the decision to stay with Windows 7. I had some 2400 MHz RAM by Corsair but noticed my performance dropped probably due to the sloppier timing. I went back to my GSkill RipjawsX 2133 MHz with 9-11-10-28 timing and my benchmark scores went back up. Good luck with the new member of the family.

Oh hell yeah, Windows 7 for sure. W8 is a joke, and W10... well I think we all know what's going on there.

The Dominators I used have 10-12-12-31 timings, which is still pretty tight for 2400MHz. I almost went with 2133 but these ones seem to be very responsive so far. There are some 2400MHz Dominators with looser timings, 11-13-13-31, so perhaps you had that model? I think I saw some that were lower voltage (like 1.2V instead of 1.65V) that had even looser timings - cas 13 or 15 possibly. I know the RipjawsX are very good anyway.

    Cheers.

Ahh ok, yeah looser timings. These are the beasts I got, and it's a quad channel kit which helps: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233392

Just splashed out and ordered 2 sets of light bar upgrade kits for the ram..  they look like this (kit includes blue and white bars):

This all started when someone gave a convincing argument that running just two sticks of RAM was better as it didn't load the Internal Memory Controller as much as four sticks and allowed for better CPU overclocking. So I got two sticks of 8 GB RAM and later added two more sticks thinking that I could use all 32 GB after Windows 10 was released. I didn't get along with Windows 10 and Windows 10 didn't like me either so I went back to Windows 7. I noticed that my benchmark scores had dropped using the Corsair memory but went back up using the GSkill 2133 MHz RAM. One thing that I noticed was that the default speed of the Corsair without XMP enabled was 1333 MHz while the GSkill default speed was 1600 MHz. IMO the Corsair memory was just seriously overvolted and overclocked 1333 MHz RAM. So now the Corsair RAM is sitting in my bedroom collecting dust. I'm sure I can use it for something and might install it in my backup PC as it only has 8 GB of 1866 MHz GSkill Sniper RAM right now.  http://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?BuildID=34751

I should have splurged and got the Dominator RAM like you did and I might have been much happier with the results. That light bar is very nice looking. You have a nice clean looking build. You did a great job with it. +1 pending on updating your Mods/Rigs page.

That pic is off the internet, I'm waiting for the light bars to arrive :)  ..but my build is clean too, lol. Actually it will look similar - same cooling.
