no no no.. that is on a single GTX 480 OC'ed at 868/2125. 2 GTX 480s on a GTX 240 rad = 39c idle and 54c load which is a 15c delta = on the edge of cooling -  but than again that is running with 1500RPM fans.

I am in the midst of updating my system even more for better cooling, which can be seen here: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=311255

I have her purring at 4.6GHz and it never jumps above 63c. Overall pretty happy with the temps.

Wow that looks SICK!! Great job!

Okay, I think I'll go with a 480 for CPU+Chipset, and a 360 for GPU loop. What brand of RAD should I look for? Fans will end up being CM R4s for the GPU loop. And 3k RPM Kazes for the CPU loop. I.e. Swiftec, HWlabs SR1, Black Ice, etc.

Whoa. Nice work.

I did notice, however, that this looks REMARKABLY similar in a lot of aspects to what Mr. Armageddon did with his build here:

Fan controller, pumps, reservoirs, bottom radiator mod ... same rubber spacers and hex head bolts, etc....

As I have said before a lot of the inspiration came from his design.  I have done quite a bit to deviate from his build now. If you read that thread you will see me posting questions to MR. A about his build when i started mine.

Sledge how were you able to mount that koolance Radiator mount and a fan?  Did you skip the quick disconnect?

I used their 140MM adapter... allowed me to use the 120mm holes on the case for the fan. So I was than able to screw in the mount to the adapter instead of the case. So the mount for the rad is mounted to the adapter which is screwed into the 140mm holes while the 120mm fan is untouched and still mounted.

You can't go the other route and mount a 140mm fan as the mounts that come with the Koolance mount will stick into the fan.

Sorry for the delay... got the camera back and snapped some images of the back rad mount and some of the new fittings I used. I replaced the Koolance SLI fitting as I just didn't like the way it looked. Also the HC FTW cards have ample space to not need a spacer with 1/2" compression fittings. so it just looks thicker & i am sure doesn't force a constraint on the flow as much.

Instead of cutting a hole in the case I used my lower PCI-E bay to port the wires for power.

Quick question about the 120.3 rad on the back.  I bought the Koolance Radiator Mounting Bracket to help move the rad away from the back of my case (so I was concerned about access to the HDMI port)

Do I see something underneath your rad on the back that is helping hold up the weight of the 120.3?  I was going to put my 120.2 on the back and put my 120.3 in the top of my case because I was concerned about the weight of the rad+water on the back.

Thanks!

The weight isn't an issue... The black item you see is a cut to size paint stick to push the rad out to have it more parallel with the case. Most people with this mount will attach it at the 2nd fan port to evenly distribute the weight. I didn't like the way that looked.

Thanks

Re:New Water Cooling Setup EVGA X58 3way Classified & Corsair Obsidian 800d 2010/05/30 08:02:13 (permalink)
So... I have been folding with the new GPU3 that was released from F@H, and in that I was not to happy with some of the temps on my CPU & GPU. So to fix that I have been toying with the idea of moving my chipsets off the CPU loop and reversing the flow of my GPU's so that the chipset was the last item to be cooled in the loop before going through 2 Radiators.

I just got the loop's back together here are a few quick images that show the water flow on the GPU loop.

I did some extensive temp testing on the loops before swapping them around, and have begun to put this new layout through the trenches.

---------------------------------

So the loops have warmed up and the liquid temp has dropped on the CPU loop by 3.6c & the overall load temp on the CPU it self has dropped roughly 2.5c Not huge but an improvement for just taking the chipset off this loop.

As for the GPU loop the lower card is now the cooler of the 2 which is good as less heat is generated that rises into the 2nd card, and the temp difference between the 2 cards has come closer together. When the flow was going from GPU 1 to GPU 2 the bottom GPU would run about 3c hotter Now with the flow going from the bottom to top the temps are only 1c apart. Nothing huge, but in general better.

Now the GPU loop did get an additional amount of heat to cool along with having more pressure and resistance to overcome, but with the basics of allowing the heat to flow the way it should (UP) There is a difference in temps.

First off before the swap the VREG's on the CPU loop ran at about 45c idle and would reach 52c when the CPU was under full load. Now that they have been switched to the GPU loop the VREG's run at 45C with the GPU's under full load, which overall allowed us to drop the chipset temps 7c. To me that is a huge temp drop which I am sure will lead to a more stable OC. I haven't let the system run idle yet as I am seeing how hot everything gets, but it will be nice to see what temps the VREG's sit at idle.

As for the GPU's its hard to say how hot they are getting just yet. It was 95 degree outside today and is still currently 82 degrees in my office, and with F@H running for the last 1 hour+ the GPU's are holding at 45C at full load.

Now earlier today in the old loop GPU #2 was peaking at 51C and GPU #1 was at 47C, so in general it seems the cards are running cooler, but overall the big difference is that card #2 is cooler overall and within range of GPU #1's temps.

I am going to allow more testing and let these temps set in a bit more before I make a full blown conclusion, but so far the temps seem to be better. Will that yield a better OC? who knows, but until I find out stay tuned.

Thanks
