The new Skylake Intel processors are set to come out next week, and I'll be doing a total system rebuild. The parts are so new I can't find a PSU calculator that determine the right PSU for Skylake. I'm going with an evga platinum PSU and I think I'm between 850w and 1000w. At the moment I don't intend to SLI my Titan, and when I overclock the CPU it won't be much. What would be the requirements for this rig:

Core system:
Intel i7-6700k
Unknown evga Motherboard
4 sticks of DD4
Titan X SC

Drives:
2x Samsung 850 Pro SSDs (Raid-0)
1x WD Black 1TB
1x Blu-ray Drive

Fans:
1x200mm
3x120mm

Processor: Intel i7-6700K
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080ti SC2 (11G-P4-6593-KR)
RAM: 16GB G.Skill DDR4-3000
Motherboard: Asus Z170 Ranger
SSD: 400GB Intel 750 Series
Power: EVGA 850w P2
Monitor: Acer X34 @100Hz G-Sync
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

So 1000w wouldn't be overkill then? The power efficiencies of these new chip designs really screw me up.

agree,(post 3 and 4) the 850 P2 would be my second choice, but for the price difference ($20 if I remember correctly), makes since to go 1000, just in case

Thanks, that chart was useful. If I understood it correctly, idle efficiency seems to be about the same across several power supplies and won't be a difference between 850w and 1000w if I'm pulling 250w-300w at idle. The Skylake TDP of 95W seems high, but I believe that's only if you use the integrated graphics (who is that for anyway?). Would be nice if Intel release TDP for non-integrated graphics use. I don't remember how I got it in my head that idle load needed to be a certain percentage of total watts. Going with the 1000w P2.

thinking of making the skylake plunge myself, looks like a few nice improvements
gonna wait for all the boards to be released fist though.

If people buy graphic cards for 1000$, processor 400$, memory 200$ than I think such RIG deserve 1KW Platinum.
Next 7-8 years and warranty is 10 many things could change, difference is only 40$...
But if you decide to go with 850 P2 you will not make mistake, look very cool, it's small and newer version with Eco Switch near connectors, full black cables...
    850 P2 is small but killer, it's smaller even from 850 G2...
Really cool little PSU with 70A on 12V Rail... Whole new line 650/750/850W are same size.

I honestly wouldn't go with anything smaller than 1000w, but that's just me. G2 or P2.

    Me to.
I hope EVGA will offer in future models compatible with their Sleeve Cable Set.
