I just got all 3 of my Plexi tops in. Still considering the Ram blocks, but I am not entirely sure yet.

Yes... I do know I want to, that is the problem, lol. With all the radiator space, I am considering putting the Ram, chipset and VRM in its own loop. I don't want anything having an effect on the CPU, or the cpu to effect them, as it seems to get fairly toasty all on its own.

If anything, the rad space from the 3rd loop would only help the CPU- don't waste a reservoir and pump on the RAM, chipset and VRMs.

Re: New EK Supremacy Evo + my review 2014/10/28 06:16:56 (permalink)
Depression.  I don't know if this block is going to be any good for the x99.  I noticed that instead of getting heat build up in the loop, I instantly get balls to the walls heat when running the CPU..  At absolute stock, my hot core gets up to 55c.  at idle, everything is at 30-36c...  If I start to overclock at all, it goes straight to 75-85 (4.4 and 4.5ghz respectively) so I pull the block and reapply the paste (was using Gelid, now using MX-4 as I have plenty of that).. No temp change..  I understand it runs hot, but when I pull the block, the TIM in the very center is thin.  about half way across the IHS, it gets thicker.  So, I pull the CPU, Clean it, mount it to a good piece of cardboard and place it with the IHS up, and apply tim and use a piece of glass.  The IHS is perfectly flat, and the tim spreads evenly across all available space.
grab the block, and it doesn't spread past the area that looks to make perfect contact to the IHS.. :-(

I used the vent in the background as the straight edge for reference.. it goes all the way around the block where you can see the flex between the center and the screws.

Hopefully EK can help me out with this one.

Sorry for the long post on your thread.  I hope to get this fixed though.  If they won't help, I may learn how to lap and polish a block here soon.

*edit* jumped up to 55c at stock clocks.. overclocked to 4.0 and it touched 80.. EErrrrhhh... shutting this baby down until I can talk to EK.

You did try Insert I2 and Jetplate J1, right? That contact looks pretty good so I am not sure what's going on.

Scarlet, Your TIM looks fine to me Bud,  Don't know what plate combo your using But above post may be worth taking the block apart,. Im running evo full nickel with no issue, granted Its on its own loop with a gtx480 X in push
I am assuming you are on the X99 ?
The new chips you can rock your block on the middle is raised.
Did you try tighten down till full seated?   Im assuming you did
Hope you get it sorted out

Re: New EK Supremacy Evo + my review 2014/10/29 05:09:27 (permalink)
I have emailed EK..  The center of the block seems to sit slightly lower (convex where the center of the Die would be).  When I placed the TIM on the IHS and Glass, it spread out very evenly.  When I placed it on the Block, it only went as far as you can see in the picture, and I couldn't get it to spread any further.

I did tighten the block as far as the seating out allow, as EK engineered the screws to not allow over tightening.  I am about to drain the loop, and see if I can possibly get the block off and check the insert, but I verified it multiple times before putting it together as I was worried that I would get it wrong.  I am not going to run the system until it is sorted out either way.

This is the picture I shared earlier, but what bothers me in the obvious change in reflection, making me think the contact isn't all that great, causing the heat issue.  The slightly dark spot is from the 4770k, and it was Bare Die with CLLP, which left a slightly darker spot that the rest. If ek won't send me a replacement (even if I have to pay for it), I will try my hand at Lapping.. It will just take a few weeks to get the stuff I need, if I can't get it at the only hobby shop I know of outside the base.

Scarlet i told you to start lapping. That change in reflection looks like deformation. It could be the issue with temperature.

:-p I heard you the first time!  I have to get all of the sand paper first.  I will start when I get all of the sand paper I need.

All sandpaper is ordered.  Now the wait for it to arrive.  I have wanted to try polishing anyway.

Sorry about the delay but:

As always, I will update this if/when I get to test out more CPU blocks. If you guys would rather read the review in one place, I went ahead and made a small blog: http://thermalbench.com/2015/01/07/ek-supremacy-evo-cpu-waterblock/
That website is where I will have all my stuff too.

Thanks! This was my first review of a PC part so any feedback is appreciated. Since then I wrote up another one on the Corsair 380T. Not sure if there's a good place to put it here.

I suggest posting it in General Hardware, I would definitely read that as well.

REGULAR designates having the block installed properly, where the inlet is on the left, outlet on the right. Goofy would designate the inlet on the bottom, outlet on the top or something other than having the inlet and outlet where they are designed to be.

Thanks, sounds more like a bad surfer.

So then where the Inlet is on the Top, Outlet on the Bottom would be Goofy or Incorrect then?
I also have one were the Inlet is on the right and outlet on the left as it flows with the water.
Looks like I have some work to do.

Sorry for the confusion. I ended up following Stren's naming convention so something can be kept constant in discussions. I have pictures here explaining better: http://thermalbench.com/2...-evo-cpu-waterblock/6/

Cool, will do. I got a ton of stuff to write about/test. I did get some AIOs finally so I will update the 380T cooling section and post it here. In the meantime, I am putting together everything in the website linked above so I can split the reviews into multiple pages. Some of them are there already, including a few new ones.
