Hi people!
Just got my second 970 SC. Was about to return the first, then figured i'd get better perf from sli'ing two of these babes than a single 980. Joseph Constantino's awesome patience also made me realize i wouldnt get nearly as good service anywhere else from support.

So i get the card pop it in. Boom works.

Boo, card wont cool actively below 60c. my first card does, and is VERY quiet at it. They're identical.

I dont want to go the route of having 10 utilities load at bootup to define fan curves. Anyway i can find a different bios with active cooling ala acx 1.1 if i read correctly??? this really builds up unneeded heat in my case.

Even better would be the availability of watercooling blocks for this board

Thanks!

I see lots of words, but no numbers. How hot is "HOT"?

The BIOS at release time didn't turn off the fans at cooler temperatures. BIOS revisions since then added that feature. If you want a version of the BIOS which doesn't turn the fans off, call EVGA. You can't get a version of the BIOS from any other source other than EVGA if you don't want to void your graphics card warranty. Only EVGA can guarantee that you get the proper BIOS; simply looking online or using the one from your old card on your new card may not turn out well for you. Some of the same model of video cards came with memory from different manufacturers and if you flash your card to a BIOS designed for different memory, you could make yourself a doorstop with no warranty.

Do you have one or more Slot Spaces between Cards?
What is the Model or Part Number for your Superclocked GTX 970? 04G-P4-1972-KR (Blower) or 04G-P4-2974-KR (ACX)
Post your Idle Temps and then Gaming or Benchmarking Temps.

    hi!

i got enough room for a dual slot card between both boards.

    acx btw 2974

idles at 57 when my other without the 0db curve alone idles at 31c.

together it ramps up to 57 and 49

load temps spike right up to 79c then tapers down very slowly to 65-68 which turns the inside of the case into an inferno until the fans are done exhausting the heat.

cpu is watercooled and stays at a frosty 42c

    To ger07,

I CAN ask for this bios to support?

This would solve my headaches probably. Are there any compatible full coverage waterblocks for this card? model 04g-p4-2974-kr.

this would be even better a solution.

What monitor are you using? It's been known that anything above 60Hz pushes these cards to those temps.

Also what case are you using and does it have sufficient air flow?

    I'm running 2 FTW's 04G-P4-2978-KR and I dont even see 60'C while gaming....

about airflow, i'm in montreal and its cold here. room temp is 20c and ive resorted to keep the case opened now. and i'm gaming on 3x27" at 60hz 5760x1080.

if i link both cards with the same fan curve using afterburner damn i didnt know that card could be so loud. its like a jet plane. and temps hover around mid to high 60's.

if i pull out the new card and bench using only one, its all back to normal.

Casewise im using a modded thermaltake chaser i think is the name. psu is out fixed to the backside with holes thru the sidepanel for cabling. front intake fan is 200mm more or less, front side panel has a second 200mm fan, topside has a triple rad with fans for my cpu cooling loop. so airflow really isnt a problem

I'm running 120hz with the lightboost hack and I don't have any temp issues so far.

Also wanna add, check and see what mode in the nVidia Control Panel under manage 3D Settings and set it to adaptive and see if it helps.

as far 120Hz, you can check the forums, all those who are having over-heating issues have been running 120Hz monitors or above. 60hz been proven to not make much heat when on idle.

My titans idle down perfectly fine on the desktop at 60Hz or 120Hz @ 1440p. Running 144Hz on the desktop will keep them clocked up.

I am running a 144hz monitor and my GTX 970 FTW runs pretty cool.

970's tho for whatever reason run hotter on anything over 120Hz. It's been a topic here more than on occasion.

For whatever reason 120Hz up makes the 970 not down clock appropriately. 110hz tho has allowed the gpu's to down clock.

I've also read that in some cases two or more monitors lock the P state from activating to lower power/ performance while idling. Id say try with one monitor and see, than add a second, than third while using like GPUZ to look at the temps for about 30mins or so.

You can monitor what GPU speed your on etc..

I run two displays, my primary is a 144 hz monitor, secondary a 60 hz.

My GTX 970 FTW idles 36-38c ( no fan spinning ) , and pretty much stays below 60c in gaming , using Precision X ( legacy 4.2.1) default fan curve.

My GPU at desktop idles down to 135 MHz, but I do use the multi display power saver feature in Nvidia Inspector, so it will downclock to that at idle.

this was thrown totally off topic. from a dual gtx 970 sc acx that pumped lots of heat on 3 monitors we're talking 120hz and titans.

a single gtx runs warm with its default fan curve, which isnt the 0db curve.

with the new, second card of the pair, thing turns into an inferno.

i want to know if i can get a non 0db aka a card that actively controls its temp bios to replace the one on the second 970 who came with that utterly stupid idea of a 0db runs hot for nothing bios.

is this the brag about your pc thread? i think what i'm trying to ask is simple.
