Nice, I will definitely give this a try when it comes out.  Good to see Netflix doing something like this.

Not new, not Netflix original. Only thing Netflix is doing is English dubs for it. Most English dubs suck. I'd prefer to watch it with subtitles. That article is wholly misleading. The first 11 episodes are already out.

On a more interesting note, SAO season 2 starts in July.

The 12th episode just came out ending season 1.  Yes it has been confirmed that there will be a second season.  Next season starts at the end of November.

I'm generally not either.  Give this at least 2 full episodes before you decide.  It really is quite good......the audio is amazing.

The preview in that link was all in Japanese.  Will this be subtitled in english, or will I have to learn Japanese to watch?  Lol.

I think it is just personal preference.  I liked Gundam better, but thought Robotech was fun and cheesy to watch.

I watched the first season. For mecha anime, it's not that good. Typical anime nonsense -- everyone is in high school and they're military academy students that are put into combat with mechs in space. Typical dumb clueless male superhuman protagonist. Semi-inept harem concept with the females in the series. A few main characters die throughout the season as cheap plot devices. Generic bad guy space blob monsters in space coming to get them.

This wouldn't be so bad if there weren't 40 other examples of space mecha anime that were better series. My guess is Netflix picked this up because most western viewers don't know any better that there are much higher quality examples of this premise out there to be watched. I'd give it a D+ overall. The last Macross and Gundam series were 10x better than this generic series and that's not saying much in the case of Gundam. The last couple Gundam series have been forgetful experiences.

Tough crowd.  I gave it a B, but I'm an optimist.

Robotech is just butchered Macross edits.

Gundum gets tedious and annoying bogged down with Japan's inferiority complex about war. What screws up Gundam series the most is the writers get preachy about morality plays about combat. You're not allowed to turn off your brain and just enjoy the action when they write like that. Problem is, it's just not one or two Gundam series like that, it's most all of them. They all have some condescending message about war. I watch anime to turn my brain off, not be molested by anime writer's political views.

The last mecha series I truly enjoyed without nitpicks was Full Metal Panic Second Raid. That's been awhile. I also liked Macross Frontier for the animation quality and action sequences.

It is a meh.  Perhaps a meh- (meh minus :P).  The action - when there is any - is short lived and not very exciting.  The story is borderline maddening with the kid they set up to be the hero being utterly unspectacular and unintelligent.  If there is another season, I'll not be watching.

This is the first Netflix original I've been truly disappointed in - even the werewolf series was better than this.

It isn't an original to Netflix.  They just made it available after the first season had finished.  If Netflix doesn't show it or not Season 2 is confirmed due to the shows popularity.

Of the mecha anime this season this series looks to be the best. Knights of Sidonia is unimaginative crap.
