The smart home is supposed to make our lives safer and more efficient, but it’s clear the technology still has a long way to go. Link

Granted this is different than actually exploiting a IOT device. But if you take the time to do any exploit research on these home automation systems, you will be astonished how little security they have on them. Most of these devices have nothing more than a stripped down un-updated ancient Linux kernel with loads of well documented vulnerabilities. The only home automation IOT devices I know of that are genuinely taking security seriously are the smart meters on the side of your house. They have made great strides over the past couple years to secure these.

Test this yourself as I have and it is not possible for this to happen through a closed door even an inside door and the iPhone hanging on the door.

why not go the way BTTF showed us, with voice print matching and biometric secruity. Why oh why is just a simple voice command enough without at least matching your voice print. A good system should say verify indentity, then you read it off a long code like Alpha, 1, 1,1, Bravo, 2,2,1,1,Alpha,Bravo Execute And if your voice matches the voiceprint ID then it obey's your commands
