Scratch my previous post about building a rig. The mysterious hand of "fate" has made it financially impossible for me to build my x99 rig. I had to start from the ground up. New speakers, new monitors - everything.....

I guess I will just stick to a laptop. I have gotten out of gaming so this is what I want:

a 17.3" or larger screen
at least 16gb of decent memory
at least 4gb of dedicated graphics memory
preferably a SSD with HDD for back-up

I will be using an external monitor (4k would be nice but HDMI is ok)

Main use: Photoshop and music capabilities (hope to buy a bass in the future and record/mix)

If anyone has any input, let it rain as they say. Please/Thank you

PS -
If anyone has a x99 rig for sale or thinking about selling it / knows someone selling one, let me know as well. m@

Same thing for $50 cheaper, looks good. Only thing to keep in mind is that it lacks an optical drive, but you can always get a $30 external for the handful of times you'll use one.

What would be a nice external monitor to go along with this? I believe it is HDMI only.

    Alienware 17.

I know some people would absolutely hate that idea but that laptop is really good because you can upgrade the video card (it uses MXM slot), cpu, ram, has ample cooling that doesn't sound like a jet engine and generally looks good imo.

edit: I suggest you also look at Alienware 13 as it has a feature where you can buy an additional box and what it does is it allows you to add a Desktop graphics card (like GTX Titan, GTX 980, R9 290x, etc...) which would absolutely stomp even the fastest mobile GPU. Also since you are gonna connect the laptop to external monitor, the lower size foot print of the laptop makes it extremely portable while you are traveling around.

Decided to go with this: B.F. price was too good to pass up..

Can someone explain something to me. If I bought Windows 8.1 Pro would I install it while the BIOS is set to UEFI or should I change it to legacy.

I tried this on another computer using UEFI and it did not install my copy of windows 8.1 pro instead it used the version sent with the laptop (my keys were totally different) and also I don't like all of these recovery partitions and system reserved partitions.

I would appreciate any help. Please/Thank you
