Hi. I am building my first gaming PC and need help. I already bought the CPU - Intel i5 2500K. Everything else still needs to be bought. I am highly considering the EVGA X58 FTW3, though it is alittle more than I was hoping to spend.. I eventually want to run two GTX 570's so SLI is important. My question is- does the EVGA X58 FTW3 support i5? Thanks!

No ; look at your socket type and socket requirments when selecting a board. 1155 and 1366 are not the same, look at the P67.

KMoore4318 No ; look at your socket type and socket requirments when selecting a board. What he's saying is that 2500K is a 1155 socket, so you would need to get a MOBO that is P67, H67, or Z68. NOT a x58. If you want an x58(which is still a great choice) you would need to get a 1366 socket CPU including but not limited to i7-950, i7-960, etc.

My only problem now is that I was hoping to have my local Fry's electronics to make me a custom PC. Unfortunately they don't sell either of those boards... frustrating!

You do not want to pay fry's to build you a PC, as long as you can read instructions, and follow directions, building a system is not that complicated, a good part of the fun, and pride, is in the build, this is no different than a puzzle or model you wouldn't buy a box of lego's, and ask the store to put it together. This is a learning opportunity, learning to take advantage of your learning opportunities, and how to utilize the resources ( here ) and elsewhere is what determines where you end up. Fry's would have to pay me to let them assemble my PC. I would only consider that option , if I had a better use for my time, that paid more. IF you have any questions during your build, just ask.

You make a great point and part of me wants to build it myself. The bonus I see from having them build it is they would hopefully give it to me working.. if they use a part and it doesn't work they use another. If i build it myself and something goes wrong... first I wouldn't know what wasn't working, and secondly I would have to wait for a return in the mail.

Building them is not hard and self satisfying. If you have any sort of do it your self skills then I would suggest doing it your self. Helps get to know how a computer works and when something goes wrong you aren't forking over money to someone to diagnose it. Plenty of us here will help you with that for free. It may seem like a daunting task when you first start out but in no time you will have the ability to build a computer strip it back down and put it all back together again in an hour. Not that you would have to do that for any reason. Just saying I will never take my computer to get fixed by anyone ever. When I started, only thing I could do was add another HDD. Look at my rig now...

If i build it myself and something goes wrong... first I wouldn't know what wasn't working, and secondly I would have to wait for a return in the mail. Then you come here give us your list of computer parts and tell us exactly what is happening. Even if it is, "My Computer will not turn on." there is always a place to start, such as, are there LED's lit up on the motherboard, or do the fans spin up, is there a post code, etc... As far as parts go, we can recommend everything that is compatible like the above Motherboard Compatibility. Now we can't prevent DOA parts when they get to your door step. EVGA and Corsair are two good company's when it comes to RMA's though so highly suggest getting as much from them as possible.

If the mail return thing bothers you look to see if there is a Microcenter in your area, or buy parts from fryes, you usually have a 30 day exchange at brick and mortar storers. Companies like New egg, will generally provide pre paid shipping labels, if you know to ask, The knowledge the people in this form, is typically far better than the guy standing behind the counter at fry's or best buy's, and you always have EVGA's 24/7 tech support just a phone call away at 888-881-EVGA ( 3842)

Ragingidiot Yeah I ordered the i5 2500k Today from Fry's. I like the EVGA P67 FTW , I just can't find a list of compatible memory. Just about any DDR3 RAM which is 1600MHz+ from Corsair, G Skill, or Mushkin with a voltage of 1.5v. Not very descriptive but the whole compatibility list thing is a bunch of bull if you ask me. I have seen cases where RAM on that list doesn't work for some people, but works for others. DDR3 RAM is DDR3 RAM.

4 DIMM Dual-Channel DDR3 1333MHz+ (up to 16GB) Get at least 1600 rated memory,( if you plan on Over clocking ) stick with names you know and trust , Mushkin, corsair, ... , look for memory rated 1.65 volts or below, if you plan on running at stock speeds any 1060 or 1333 memory should work, and would be 1.5 V buying 1600 memory even if you plan on ruining at 1060, or 1333 would be fine, and save you from having to double spend later if you decide to over clock down the road, just as buying too much power supply will save you should you latter decide you want to change GPU's, or SLI.

Seems like the EVGA P67 SLI is the only one released thats from that link. Amazon seems to be the only place too.. says 5 left in stock. How much RAM should I aim for? I was originally hoping to do 2 - 4gb's for 8 total... but on every 1155 sockett board seems to do in 2's. So 4 or 6gb seem like the options... Again i was hoping for 8 I definitely want to sli in the future, but start with one 570 GPU.

Buying from EVGA is an option as well, and would save you taxes, unless you live in calafornia, plus you do not have to save or submit reciets to actavite the warranty as they already have it on file, although you would still have to regester, look at the top of this page under products, select motherboard, and the P67.

If you are going to run more than 4G make sure you get the 64 bit version of windows.

This RAM here seems to be popular for the P67 lineup. Not to crazy on the timings but they aren't terrible. They are average but it's still good RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820233144 Edit-here is a better set with better Timings More expensive though. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820226203 With the lack of reviews thing, EVGA just released there boards last week. I wouldn't worry about it though. They make quality stuff. I'll Buy EVGA until there policy on RMA's Change or there quality goes into the dump.

I definitely am thinking 850W as my minimum. I don't wan't to have to rebuy in the near future. How about this ram? It is available at my local Fry's which is a plus. The more parts I can buy locally the better. I want to deal with shipping as less as possible the CPU, and Board are for sure shipping. The high heat spreders may give you issues depending on the cooler you select , case latency of 9 is acceptable, but 6 would give you more performance. see if they also have http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Redline/996805.aspx the lower latency and low profile may make things easier, but if you go with a modest cooler, spreader height would not be an issue.

Johhny Doe lovehaThis RAM here seems to be popular for the P67 lineup. Not to crazy on the timings but they aren't terrible. They are average but it's still good RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820233144 Edit-here is a better set with better Timings More expensive though. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820226203 I wouldn't consider Corsair make IC's good, they're just cheap. The Redlines are pretty good, Elpida BBSE chips. They look great as well. Whatever happend to Corsairs really good stuff? I am running a kit of Dominator GT 1600MHz 7-7-7-20. My wallet didn't like it either, that was like a year ago or more. Stuff like that doesn't exist from them anymore....

Stuff like that doesn't exist from them anymore.... Elpida's Hyper chips used in SuperTalent, Dominator GT, Perfect Storms and such were discontinued a year ago. They were being too expensive to bin so they left us with lower end chips like Microns. I ordered 2 sets of Hypers, and found 2 more Perfect Storms to order from eBay. Going to bin them myself on a DDR3 mobo, guess how much 16 GB of DDR3 2200 CL8 costs... Those Dominators are CL9, I'd go for the Redlines. As for the PSU, can't go wrong with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16817703022

Sorry if I didn't read through all the posts, but why aren't you buying online again? Fry's doesn't have all the varieties to choose from. From the memory brands that they offer, it seems that Corsair is the only good one. So I would go with 2x4GB Dominators or the 2x4GB Vengences, since I think you said you wanted 8GB, its either 8 or 4
