Hey All,

I currently run 2x GTX690 Signature edition EVGA cards. I may possibly upgrade to the 9XX series, but in terms of raw power how many of the 980s would it take to achieve an "upgrade" over quad-sli on the 690s? I thought i read that 2x 980s slightly beat out a 690, so would i need to go with 4x 980s to equal / top the 690s? At that price point im not sure its even worth it. The rest of my system is in my signature and i dont care about power consumption, fan noise or any of that. I just want to get maximum performance that would be an upgrade. Currently game at 1080p on 144hz monitor, but may upgrade to 4k shortly when monitor prices drop.

Because of bad scaling with 4-way SLI I guess you'd see a performance increase.

And the 2GB VRAM per card (GTX690) makes this a no-brainer.

Depends on the game.  Some games you will see no increase in performance with your second 690, others you will only get about 50% higher fps with the second 690, and in some cases you will lose performance in games with a second GTX690.  2-way GTX980 will outperform your GTX690 SLI setup in most cases if not all cases.  Plus you will have twice the VRAM.

If you really want a beast then you should wait 9 to 12 months for the true maxwell flagship card to arrive.

3X 980's will do the job, I have a setup close to your's.
BTW there is NO game out there that will scale right with Quad SLI or even 4-Way SLI. The best bet for me has all ways been use the forth GPU for PhysX. I have done Surround 3 monator and 3+1 monater, also just one monator. And for me I saw a very little inprovement 1-20% increase of FPS. I saw my games that have PhysX in them do so much better when the 4th GPU was decated to PhysX.
Soon i'll have 3x980's and i'll beable to give a better compare. I say take the money you spend on a 4th card and buy 3 blocks. http://www.ekwb.com/shop/...ce-gtx-9x0-series.html
