CRAP!!! I forgot to set everything back to your settings for memtest (I used old setting to get memtest) ill set everything again and try both again..

Oooops!!  Yeah, man.....you need to be testing them at their rated spex. EDIT: Since you originally said your CPU was fine running with 1.425v on the core...go ahead and manually set it to that while you are in the BIOS.

Yeah my bad. Well I tried both at rated specs and memtest halted unexpectedly so I put just one in the first slot and now its testing good so far. What do you think of that 2x4gb corsair memory talked about in that thread?

Can't really say....I have no hands-on experience with Corsair RAM. I have used Kingston, G.Skill and Patriot. EDIT: I am real partial to those Patriots I linked because they use the higher voltage that the 790i mobo's "like" to have.

I would have gotten that patriot memory that many people have for 790i boards but I just can't find them, so I settled for the memory I currently have but i have not had very good luck with them. It's kind of weird I have had these mem for about a year with my q8200 (I didnt know much bout overclocking at the time so I had it at 3.2 ghz no idea if it was truly stable or not I never tested it) but I could play all my games ( bad co 2, fallout 3, and witcher 2 for example) on highest settings with no crashes or anything EDIT: I tried both memory at same time and also separately and everything results in freezes of memtest after maybe 2 minutes

I understand......one cannot even find the Patriots that I am running anymore......I wanted the Green EPP 2.0 modules but, they were already hard to find at a decent price when I got my board. I just noticed your EDIT on post #35. MemTest should not be freezing like that. Did you change your vcore from 1.4v to 1.425v and then the freezing started?

Yeah....$74 for 8GB's is pretty darn good. My 8GB's cost me $280.

That is what i will probably do. And no my vcore is still at 1.4 v and it freezes. That's the reason why u had my multiplier at 10 it seemed like whenever I tried something near or at 1600 it would crash or freeze on me while testing

I had you change your multiplier to 9x in that template I posted because that is the default multiplier for your chip.

Yeah I know it was still at 9x for memtest I meant in my original 3.7 oc I had it at 10x. EDIT: also by testing I meant heavy load and prime 95 sorry for not being clearer

I have the setting you gave me set and memtest will freeze after about 2 minutes and I tried both together and each one single. I'll probably order that patriot memory tomorrow and see how that works.

OK....did you ever determine what BIOS you are running on? I will assume it is an old version if, you did not upgrade to the latest available. I really think you should just go ahead and perform that upgrade and not have to worry about ever having to do it again as, there probably will not be any more released.....what do you think??

I agree I really wish I could have gotten some memory like you have when it was still made! but how do you go about updating the BIOS. I still haven't got the version number the screen goes to fast and I always miss the pause thing.

Here is the link to download the image file : http://cdn.evga.com/bios/NF79_P10.iso Do what ya gotta do to get into Windows and use the ImgBurn program to burn it to a CD at the slowest speed. After you have the disk ready....go into the BIOS and Load Defaults > Save and Exit then, boot to the disk and the upgrade will run...you should see a message saying it was successful when it is completed.

Lol I thought "remove floppy diskette and press f1 to reset was pretty funny (who uses floppy disks anymore except for in my tech class at school)" well the deed is done...shall I enter your settings and try memtest again? EDIT: ah now I have tRFC in advanced memory timings.

LOL!! Yes, go ahead and apply those template settings. And speaking of the floppy...while you are in the BIOS, make sure that you go through it and disable everything like the floppy controller that you are not using....that will free-up resources. EDIT: good deal....give me that tRFC # and I'll add it to my posted template....I just added the BIOS version.

That is good to hear....real good. Maybe your RAM is just fine afterall......and there were some glitches being caused by running on the old BIOS.

We can always find parts to spend money on upgrades!! You may want to seriously upgrade your PSU before trying to run SLI 260's.

O yeah I kinda want to upgrade to i7 but that would cost me lots of money lol! But don't you think 750 watts is enough for just 2 260s? The 790i manual says a minimum of 500w for dual sli that's why I got the 750 because I knew I would eventually upgrade.
