Well sound cards are totally personal preference. I would use it as is and if your not happy with you can always add in a sound card later.

I think you'd probably be very happy using quality headphones/speakers with the onboard ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio..That board comes with the software to fully manage/unlock the onboard audio potential which include:
    - Sonic SoundStage
    - Sonic SenseAmp
    - Sonic Studio
    - Sonic Radar II

I'd be inclined to stick with the high-quality onboard..Just my opinion.

You won't need a sound card with Logitech speakers.

I would rather have a card, than have to rely on onboard sound.

If you decide to get a sound card, like Bob mentioned above make sure you get great headphones at some point.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50X pair I got with the FiiO amplifier are jaw dropping with the Sound Blaster Z...or comparable sound card.

Thanks for the replies guys...the opinions are contradicting

Guess i'll try with onboard sound first if I'm not satisfied i'll install my current X-Fi, no need to purchase a new soundcard

I also have the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones plus sound blaster Z. Way better then onboard imo.
    I'm using the Logitech Z -2300's speakers.

Same here...mine has the front I/O panel as well, I guess i'll eliminate it in the new build as I don't want any mess inside with the cabling.

My Creative X-Fi sound card plays well together with my Z5500's.

Same here...mine has the front I/O panel as well, I guess i'll eliminate it in the new build as I don't want any mess inside with the cabling.

I have the front I/O panel as well. I'm not getting rid of it. No way. It's too convenient for me. The cables aren't in the way in my case.     =)

It actually is very convenient for me too, maybe with the new case (Corsair 800D) and motherboard the cables won't be in the way...

Here's to hoping it works out just fine...

    Thanks XrayMan ;)

    Option one:
Use your sound card as a Pre-amp. Run directly from your card to a 5 channel amp and a sub.
    Option two:
Use the on board digital out (RCA or Optical) to a surround sound receiver. This bypasses the computer DAC and processor and will let the external stereo equipment deal with it.
    Option three:
Use the on board sound card if you're only connecting directly to a set of computer speakers or computer surround sound speaker set.

Number one sounds the best BTW. Every channel gets its own dedicated pathway with no compression or conversion. there's an audible difference too.

With the upgraded built in audio on that board, not sure why you would want a sound card.

You basically have a sound card built onto your motherboard.

There are specs pulled directly from Asus's website:

    - Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
    - SupremeFX Shielding Technology
    - ELNA® premium audio capacitors
    Audio Feature :
    - Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection
    - DTS Connect
    - Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel
    - Sonic SoundStage
    - Sonic SenseAmp
    - Sonic Studio
    - Sonic Radar II

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there issues with the ROG onboard audio and the toslink connection to surround speakers?
I spent a few nights trying to get my Z-5500s to jive with SupremeFX 2014 and I could only get the analog to function. Not saying others wouldn't have better luck, but just seems like an extra PITA especially when IMO a sound card just plain sounds better...even though yes onboard has come a long way.

I've heard about such issues as well...and another thing that keeps me away from onboard sound is that I got used to the creative software.

I keep asking myself..should I keep the X-Fi for my old rig and buy a new card, let's say Soundblaster Z or just use the X-Fi?

Edit: I just read that people still prefer the X-Fi over the Soundblaster Z modules as there are some issues with them.

Asus Xonar cards are not bad at all. Those are also worth looking at.
