Hi, I was very motivated from reading guides in this forum and finally my computer parts arrived and built all my computer.
Here is my parts(Unfortunatly HD 5870 was defective and now im using hd 5770 cuz... i lost about 450$ and very sad... have to dhl back to united states and will cost me about 130$ just to get refund which is like only 300$....)

Well, After all the readings from forum here and there my eye started bleeding so I had to start OCing.

These are my settings:
I7-920 D0
bclk: 190mhz
multiplier: 20x
qpi: 16x
vCore: 1.258
IOH/ICH IO Volt: 1.5v
ICH vcore: 1.1v
QPI PLL Vcore 1.1v
CPU Pll vcore: 1.8(Auto)
IOH vcore: 1.1v
CPU VTT Volt 1.25v
DRAM: 1.55volt

Currently running at 3.8ghz , Memory: 758.1 x 2 = 1516mhz(8-8-8-29-tRFC:74)
Turbo: ON
HT: OFF

After runing almost 3 hours of OCCT to see if its stable.
Temperature of cores are around 66 to 71 Degree's Celcius on Full Load mostly around at 68to 69 and about 36-44 on idle.

While it was doing test I start reading about turbo and HT that both can make CPU to be very hot.
Also read some benefits between Turbo and HT. I decieded to turn off Turbo cuz it doesnt benefit me much however many people were saying even if I had to lower some MHz on cpu clock I should turn on HT.

This time I had to test out Turbo: off and HT: On.
However, the temperature went up around 69-75 degrees celcius with HT on.

I have two question as im very noob to OC.
1. Should I turn HD and turbo both to OFF to get stable at 3.8 ghz or should I lower to 3.6ghz and turn HT on?(I use computer mostly for playing WoW and Starcraft 2 beta or software development with VS2008)
2. From Data input I wrote about Voltages Am I putting too high on something?(NB Temperature looks very high with my board X58 Sli LE cheap one) If you see something should be lowered and tested out please let me know

Thank you very much

Edit: Looks like OCCT gives me very stable temperature between 61-65 degrees however prime 95 giving me around 72-77 degrees...

First let me say I have been to 191 Bclock stable W/HT and Turbo on and registered it at:

    *Club i7 Stability Continuation* - Post #859

That said, we do the math. 21 (multiplier) / 20 = 1.05. 22 / 20 = 1.1. Thats a 5-10% change done by turbo. One could also get 21 by disabling Turbo and set multiplier at 21. What I don't like about this is it locks that in so you don't have as much energy saving when the CPU is not very busy. I also wonder if Speedstep would also work right at that setting (I use it now). So if you could get 15% more frequency with Turbo off, and a multiplier of 20; or a 10% frequency boost with a multiplier of 21, then perhaps turning Turbo off would be worth it (actually I would require even more than that myself). I'm leaning toward keeping Turbo on for power saving yet still have speed boosts when my 3D games need it. Not only that, with a 920 Turbo is the only way to get a (single) core to 22 (930: 23).

Hyperthreading is a faux way to get more cores, for more threads. The prob is there are few things that utilize multiple threads, and even fewer that utilize more than two. And in order to hyperthread, one thread of the two per core is always 'on hold' at any given microsecond. Some things benefit from hyperthreading, like some synthetic benchmarks, so some ppls like it on bc the benchmarking results are higher. Other things will run slightly faster without HT. Maybe things will change in a few years, but IMHO this year HT doesn't help much, if at all in your uses. And it is better to have 8 physical cores than to have 8 by HT. If I had the 6-core gulftown I would say 6 is enough, turn off HT for sure. Hmm, I guess I have just convinced myself to turn off HT. I suggest you Google it and find out ppls results (and let us know).

All in all, it's mostly up to you, your preference. I don't really think either makes a significant difference, but energy saving trumps turning off Turbo for me.

Theres a link in my sig to where HT is explained.
But in summary. If you are using Windows 7, turn HT on.

Turbo is a must if you ask me. I have owned my 920 for 1.5 years now and never used it once with turbo off.

I have replied to this here:

mikotan only reinforced my decision to turn HT off.

Personally...I decided that 4.47 with HT OFF was more beneficial than 4.2 with HT on at the same vcore and vtt.

Again it will depend on what your use is.
I do a lot of editing and building so the more cores the better.
But when it comes to games, it does not really matter as much.

    It comes down to -
    1) If you do a lot of compiling and editing work with software that utilize mult-threads, then you will get more performance from HT on/Turbo on + lower clock.

    2) if you do not use such software, turn HT off, turn Turbo on and go for a higher clock.

Also As I have stated, it wholly depends on the software it is being tested upon. Some software will utilize the multi-cores better than others.
