Hi all, long time no see!
After several years it is now time for me to undertake a rebuild, and naturally EVGA is my first choice for motherboards. I have a bit of a quandary though, I intend to use an NVMe PCIe Solid State Drive as my boot device with Windows 7 but as it's such a bleeding edge technology there's almost no documentation whatsoever on compatibility with different vendors and platforms. I have engaged both Intel and Samsung regarding their NVMe product lines and the general consensus is that it all depends on the motherboard manufacturer and their BIOS implementation, and that even with a workable UEFI BIOS, Windows 8.1 may work and where Windows 7 may not! (I would much prefer 7 over 8.1)
I plan to use the X99 FTW motherboard for this build, I would be very useful to hear from anyone who has used an NVMe SSD with either Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 on any EVGA X99 motherboard.
Many thanks!
