Pascal can't come out soon enough for 60 fps 4k gaming at this point. Oh well, here's hoping a single T-X can keep at least ~40+ fps on high settings at that resolution. Really looking forward to it though as I thoroughly enjoyed the last one.

That is most likely an over exaggeration. Nvidia recommends you need GTS 980 for Rainbow Six Siege @2k as well, but you don't.

I am hoping my 970 gtx can push 1440P but with lower settings at a decent rate.

What was Nvidia recommending with regular Tomb Raider release in 2013 when I was still rocking with 470's SLI?

Also, played fluently on that too.

Well of course they're going to recommend high end cards for gaming. I'm sure they would tell you the same for Minecraft as long as your buying one (or two).

hi Guys, I am not a pro and would appreciate some advice. I am strongly considering buying this game, but reading all the posts on internet got me concerned can my rig even play it decently... Here is my setup: i7-4770K @ 4.5Ghz, 16GB DDR3 @2400, SATA 6GB/s SSD, I am using 4k TV with HDMI 2.0 @ 60Hz for monitor and I have stock 980 Kingpin.
All articles mentioned that 980Ti is recommended to go to 2k resolution, would I even be able to run it on 4k screen with mere 980 with decent settings/frames? Anyone has experience what settings would be optimal for this card?

Any advice would be appreciated .

Any current game that cant do 1080P/60FPS and 1440/60FPS_no AA on hardware the past 2-3 years, I wont be wasting any cash on. With Tessellation, HDR, and most 3-4 yrs old GPU able to push a 20-50K_poly models in 3D space at 60FPS, no need for crazy hi texture maps.

Just laziness and greed. Now they want to push so called VR, but cant run a smooth game at 1440P/120FPS with current hardware, come on

only played about an hour or so. GTX 780 6gb seems to just fine. although I wouldn't mind a second card or a 980ti

Its one of the reasons I have not picked it up. The shenanigans they are pulling is hurting gamers, now if gameworks was open source that let devs optimize it for both sides I would be for it, but that's not the case.

I'm kind of off topic saying this, but what you're speaking of is what EA games also did to Dragon Age Inquisition, and that's add AMD's "mantle". You have to have AMD in order to use it. So, Nvidia users were "probably" just as bummed as you might be with the new Tome Raider using Gameworks.

But, hey, that's the quirks of purchasing from a specific company, right? They're all going to have their benefits, and their weaknesses when purchasing from a specific brand. We all have to live with it.

I play at UHD 3840x2160 on a 980 classy without issue. Obviously I dont turn on Anti Aliasing and I leave a few other things disabled (just due to preference) like HBAO, Hairworks, Depth of Field, etc.

    Game looks absolutely spectacular.

What kind of FPS are you getting with that size of resolution with a single 980?

well I am only about 5-10% into the game. I only notice fps drops in the cinematics strangely.  I get a solid 50-60 FPS while playing which is amazing considering it is a brand new game but I trusted after the last tomb raider that it would be well optimized and it is.

DX12 Update in the works it seems:
    Source

It appears that Nixxes is currently working on a DX12 update for the PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider. As you may have heard, a DX12 .dll file was included in the PC version of the game. And while the game does not currently support Microsoft’s latest API, the first PC patch that was recently released added a hidden new DX12 option to the game’s launcher.

For what is worth, the DX12 option does not currently work. Our guess is that Nixxes included before adding support to DX12, meaning that a later patch will most probably enable DX12.

The above results can be achieved by replacing ROTTR.exe with the original executable from the retail version. Steam owners can do so by opting into the Beta branch.

Moreover, it appears that Nixxes will add support for NVIDIA’s TXAA anti-aliasing option. The game currently supports FXAA, SMAA and SSAA. Our guess is that a future patch will also add NVIDIA’s TXAA.

Rumour also has it that NVIDIA’s VXAO will be added to the game, though both Nixxes and NVIDIA have not commented on this yet.
