Well you are running 2 video cards. It's a known issue with these beta cards when it comes to 2 running video cards even if you're not running SLi but you are still linked to two cards.

Just ran through Crysis for about an hour and a half without a glitch!!! Looks spectacular might I add! There was a lot of bugs with SW unleashed even with the patch I believe.

Re:NVIDIA 260.63 Drivers Released! 2010/09/18 07:21:58 (permalink)
Strange, but yesterday I tried this out on my second gaming machine. I decided to slide the 470 into this machine for some testing with BC2. Specs for this machine are

Gigabyte EP45-UD3P rev 1.1
Core 2 Q9550 clocked to 3.6/Ghz
8/gb RAM PC2-6400
EVGA SC GTX470 (stock clocking)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64/bit

After sticking that card in this machine, I decided to perform a complete clean install of the latest 260 driver. All went well, seemed fine. Jumped in game, and noticed a 10/15 fps rate. Came out of game, tried to figure out what was going on. Card clocked up to stock speeds when tested, as did the CPU. So I ran a 3dMarkVantage. My score is normally around P20400+, only managed a P7xxx. My graphics score was normal and in the low 17xxx numbers, but my CPU score was maybe a third of the normal CPU Vantage score.

Re-installed the driver with no change. So I wiped it clean, installed the last 258 driver, tested again and all was fine. Game played well. I installed the 260 driver over the last, the game improved and I was back to my 20xxx Vantage score. So, I tried it again. Clean install of the 260 driver with the same poor results. Re-installed the last official driver, then installed the 260 driver over it. Everything was back to normal once again. Obviously the clean install was missing something for the GPUs relation with the CPU.

Now, I removed the 470 and stuck it back in my primary gaming machine. I re-installed the GTX 285 card back in this machine, performed a complete clean install of the 260 driver, and it functioned properly. I did not note the same issue with the 285 card in relation to the 470. Sounds stupid, but that was my experience yesterday. Not sure why, just thought I'd note this.

I lost .1 score in WEI with this driver on a Clean Install. I can see how this is related to what you're experiencing.

Also, to those controlling the video image settings using Nvidia settings, if you want to set your dynamic range to "Full (0-255)" make sure to also uncheck the dynamic contrast enhancement and color enhancement as it's left on by default. Leaving these two on messes up the picture in videos.

skratch1

My Team Fortress 2 is crashing when i alt-tab out/in. Anybody else getting this with 260.63?

That's a TF2 bug. It was introduced with a patch that was supposed to fix it. Just run in Windowed Mode with No borders full-screen and have a 2nd monitor with all your other stuff running.

rjohnson11

This driver corrupted itself after completion of a folding at home work unit. I had to remove this driver and reinstall the last known WHQL driver. I have filled out a report and sent it to NVIDIA.

Yikes! Will not fold until WHQL of 260.xx comes out then...

Re:NVIDIA 260.63 Drivers Released! 2010/09/18 19:44:12 (permalink)
Alright Anyone having the fan issue like I am. I can confirm that this is a Driver issue.

Since I never store that much on my gaming computer I decided to a complete reinstall to see if the MSI AB and EVGA Precision and every other Over clocking tool Fan Adjustment problem would go away.

It didn't.

I tried when there was hardly anything else on my computer. I tried to uninstall other drivers to see if another driver in conjunction with these drivers were the cause of the problem. Well to make a really long story short... I have been building computers for years.... and tried everything I know how to do. Nothing got rid of this issue. So I am convinced these drivers are the problem!

Just to recap what the problem is..... that when you try to set your fan speed manually in MSI AB/ EGA Precision or any other overclocking tool.... that program will show the wrong speed. Even though it has been set to the speed you need it to be.

Also if then you exit from that program and then try to re-enter the program later.  The fan will go back to default as soon as you open the program.

The bug also seems to cause the fan speed not to stay at the place you set it if you adjust any other setting in an over clocking program tool. For example you have the fan set to 80% and then you try to set your clocks to 800 Mhz core, once you press "Apply" The Fan will drop back to it's default setting.
You can then re set your fan speed and press "Apply" Again and it will stay at that speed (Minus the fact that it will show the wrong speed)

But this problem is still annoying none the less!

Again any ideas would be helpful? I am baffled! Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to make it clear to people having the same issue or see if any one is having the same issue?

@20mmrain: I had that also with 258.96 and the older AB (now using 2.0.0), there it jumps like crazy. But that's why i never use the manually control of fan, only my profile. There it works good, till now!

I did a rollback as well. I had some stuttering problem while watching HD movies on my TV. Did the rollback and no problems anymore. This and the core clock not downclocking (staying at 405mhz) with only one monitor.

I overclocked my GTX460 SC 1gb yesterday using Evga OC tool, Precision and OCCT. I didn't have any problems with the fan control at all with 260.63. I can hear the fan as I adjust it with precision and if I manually raise the speed I can hear it. While overclocking the card I would set the fan to 70% manually, and then after I found a stable clock that I was happy with I would set the fan on auto and I could hear it slowing down to 30%.

How ever, a couple of times while doing this I noticed that the precision slider would drop down to 30% but the fan was running at 70%. So I would raise the slider again to 70% and hit apply and then it would stay there. Just the slider was dropping to 30% NOT the fan. But like I said when I would set the fan control on auto the fan would slowly decrease in speed.

So really in my experience I had just a minor situation with the slider dropping to 30% after setting the fan to 70% manually. Other than that the driver has been treating me well. I only use my comp for gaming and surfing the web though. Not any folding or photo, video editing or anything like that.

Yeah the driver in terms of performance has been treating me very well. I have had no BSOD problems and no stuttering problems. I even have way more performance then I did before.

The only problem I have is the fan problem.... Jerkin John and RAT-boy it seems that we are all having similar problems with these drivers. To somewhat with saying that it makes me feel a little better knowing that I am not the only one.

So I guess I will have to wait for the Non-Beta version to get it fixed hopefully :)

Thanx guys.

Re:NVIDIA 260.63 Drivers Released! 2010/09/19 12:33:52 (permalink)
I've got a very, very, very strange new problem: today i wanted to play a round of Race Driver Grid. Before it worked very well with 258.96, even with very high settings. So i started the game and it needs allready longer to load than with my Athlon X2/GTS 250 computer   I tought ok, maybe it's nothing. But than i started for testing a single race, so no other cars. What happend: it was not a really stuttering, more a short freezing for 1-2s. The strange thing: if i stopped the game a moment or restarted it, than it was ok, also when i raced more than one round, than it was from second round ok
It's real strange, i never had it before. So i tought, maybe should try the old one (258.96) again and look, if it's really because of the driver. But what happend now: even with the old one it don't runs good anymore It's really crazy, don't know the reason. But other games like NfS Shift or SBK 09 runs very good, it's only Grid.

Is there any new patches for Grid or have you installed any recently? I installed a patch for SW Unleashed and it's been giving me problems here and there since or could be this beta driver although I played Crysis for about 6 hours the other night without a glitch.

These beta drivers work great for me playing Star Trek Online, i do notice a bit smooth play when rotating camera but i need to do some benchmarks. There used to be flickers with the current released drivers but with the beta it took them away and now my gameplay is good and i don't get those strange flickers from time to time in STO. BUT however..I had a problem i hope you guys can help me. After reinstalling the new drivers (The Beta) and sweeping the left overs.. i rebooted my pc and for some odd reason i cannot prevent this coming back but it seems to give me an error!

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Did the drivers do something to my pc causing this? This never happened to me before. I find it odd.

WHY did this happen? So i restarted and pressed F8 and i booted my second hard drive and it booted. i WONDER what caused that after the driver install? Is my boot not set right? Strange.. advice?

****, after installing these I noticed my OC profile in Precision had changes back to stock settings, but the fan speed was still jacked up. Whatever weird i changed it back, but now my card artifacts like CRAZY when I OC to 720 on my 470, used ot be fine and throw super tiny minor artifacts at 750, so i pulled it back some.

Could this be all driver related or timing coincidence.  I installed the 258s overtop and still happening.  Gonna do a safe mode and driver sweeper to get rid of them and see if that fixes it.

Yes, got all 3 patches allready on it. It is also strange, because before i had a HD5750 and after a GTS 250 inside and the game ran very well. I know, Grid is a game that performs much better on AMD cards, but that's not the reason. Before with the GTS and the 196.xx driver i could play it also. It's like all of this 200.xx drivers are not very proper.

Re:NVIDIA 260.63 Drivers Released! 2010/09/19 22:41:07 (permalink)
I think those drivers are weird.. i found out that in bios settings it was booting my other hard drive. I find it very odd it did that on me. I fixed it and made it boot to the 1st hard drive i have. I am running 2 hard drives. This error only happened AFTER i installed the new beta drivers. Kinda weird but the drivers work great anyhow. Can't wait for the full release.

Just started to have a different issue. The fan speed would drop back to auto for no apparent reason. I woke up to find the fan running at 40% and the Temp on my dual monitor setup to be at 90C... Never had this on 258.96. I always set my fan to 86% because of my dual monitor setup.

But anyways, other than this, these are pretty stable in gaming. Can't say for the fan control nor the Folding corruption of the drivers.

I have this exact problem.  Using Precision 2.0.0 and 260.63 drivers on a GTX460 in Windows 7 64-bit.  Not going to worry too much as the card won't overheat at auto setting, just annoying.  I like the card to run cool since it folds all day and night when I'm not gaming.  Never had a problem with the latest WHQL 258.96's.

The fan fell back to 40% while I was gaming and STAYED THERE... Temps rose to 103C!!! Immediately exited the game so that I don't fry the card.

Now I can't game until WHQL comes out... It's 196.75 all over again.

Yes you can, if you make a own fan profile at Afterburner, than it works great.
