Trying to upgrade from SLI GTX260 to SLI GTX560. After removing all of the drivers and then the 260s, installing the 560s and rebooting I get a long beep followed by BIOS code FF. I've since tried various combos of the 560s, reseating all components, resetting the BIOS by removing the battery for 10 mins and calling EVGA support only to be told I probably need to RMA my Mboard for a replacement. Before I go down this path, thought I'd publish my system specs just in case anyone can help. Finally, as soon as I put the GTX260s back in, everything works with no issues Andy Configuration: EVGA nForce 790i Ultra Mboard BIOS P10 Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Yorkfield 3.2GHz LGA 775 136W Quad-Core Processor overclocked to 3.6GHz CORSAIR TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX 4GB PC3-12800+ (DDR31600+) DDR3 Memory (no overclock) 2 GTX260 in SLI with latest drivers Win 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 SILVERSTONE TJ10-B Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case SILVERSTONE ST85F 850W ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Power Supply 4 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB Hard Drive ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner DRW-2014L1T

I believe you have a driver issue. You did not say which ones you are using but, I'd be willing to bet that is the problem. The driver you are using does not support the 560 cards. You will need to install the latest one that does have their support. This is what I found for you: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-266.66-whql-driver.html Also make sure that your cards are receiving the proper additional power.

Hi Jeffrey, thanks for the suggestions. Just one question - I'm not getting any video at boot up at all (so before I even get to the Windows start graphic) so wouldn't that indicate a wider problem than the video driver? On the power side, yes its getting the extra power via a couple of 6pin connectors for each card (4 total). LEDs are green on the 560s and fans are spinning Andy

Instant FF at boot is usually hardware related. I would say to check everything to make sure that parts are seated and connected properly but, you have already done that....and when you put the 260's back in, all is well. So, try each 560 by itself in the primary GFX slot and see if they will function properly individually. If one works and the other doesn't.....well, there ya go. If neither works then, you may have gotten 2 bad cards. If they both work by themselves and you just have an issue when you SLI them....try a different bridge. EDIT: Just in case you don't already know this..... BEFORE you uninstall the GFX driver, ALWAYS turn off the Windows Automatic Update feature. This will prevent Windows from installing another driver before you can install the one you want to use. After you are all done then, turn it back on.

Jeffrey, I didn't explain the boot cycle in full I'm getting - there is no video at all, the mboard does go through all of the various steps (can be seen from the onboard display) and about 1/3 of the way through the boot process I get a long single beep but the boot continues till I get FF displayed and then nothing. Doesn't shut down but also doesn't start loading Windows as I believe its waiting for user input but can't tell due to no video. I've tried both 560s by themselves in all of the different slots and same result

There should be no need for ANY user input during the boot process. EDIT: If you install one or both of your 260's and it boots up normally then, there is something wrong with both of the 560's. Where did you buy them? Are they brand new or used? Are they under warranty?

Have another system either in house or at a friends you can try the 560's in? I'm thinking this though, make sure the cards are fully seating in the PCIe slots. They might be hitting something. I know if I do not put my GPU's in just right they hit on the case and don't go thru the slots and don't fully seat in the PCIe slot. Don't think they changed any design so you should not be able to see any of the copper sticking above the PCIe slot where the cards PCB meets it. See if there is a difference in how it looks between your 260's and 560's.

EVGA level 2 tech thinks there is something wrong with the mboard. It doesn't show up for the 260s but it does happen with the 560s.

I am having a hard time understanding how it could be something wrong with the board since, the the 260's require more juice to run them than the 560's....and they work fine. You definately should try the 560's in a different board. If they still do not work then, you know what to do....RMA. Next time maybe you should stick with EVGA GFX cards??

.....and then another one down the road, right?? Gotta SLI!!! I can hardly wait until I get my 2nd 460 at the end of this month. I miss my SLI sooooo bad. I ran 2 260's for a year with an old 8800GT Akimbo as dedicated PhysX and it was pretty good. Just running 1 460 now with one of the 260's for PhysX and it is very nice like that but......ya know!!!

You are very welcome, Andy. I am sorry that you had troubles but, I'm very glad it was easily resolved. A similar incident many years ago is what convinced me to stick with EVGA for my GFX card needs and they have never let me down. I am sure that you will enjoy your 580 very much. Please come back here to the Forum if you need further assistance....there are many folks here ready and willing to help.

Yeppers, glad you have it sorted out and are back up and running. Now don't forget to change your sig. Hmm all this talk of SLI and dedicated physx cards makes me want to put in one of my old 8800's for physx or maybe my 275 but that would be major overkill.

Yea using 441W right now GPU and SMP folding. The 750W is why I did not go SLI on my 480's to begin with since this one was the 11th anniversary prize so I thought about it but then thought ahh forget it as I just bought this PSU just not long before I won the 480. Plus I'm thinking of going a bit higher on my overclock so that will also eat into my spare wattage. Just on Dummy overclock now as I gave up on trying to get my overclock stable a year or so ago at 3.4GHz.

I'm a little confused, did you do the benchmark/stress testing with the 560's or the 260's. Do the 560's work? Did you do a clean install of the drivers for the 560's? Did you use driver sweeper in safe mode (f8) after uninstalling the graphics driver, physx, 3d and HD audio from add/remove. Set driver sweeper to clear Nvidia display and physx only. If you need more guidance with driver sweeper let us know, I'm running short on time right now but can help later if needed. Quickly, Would not be a bad idea to get SP1 for Win 7, if I remember correctly there were some graphics related updates. If you were manually updating over time like I do then the download should not be too big, otherwise the full SP is over 800MB I believe.

Diff_1 .I cant answer here apparently im getting scolded by jeffrey for being a total noob at posting in forums. I'm not an experienced poster but I this sounded exactly like the same issue i was having and the "thread owner" had already solved his problem and figured I could get help next.

I apologize if I came off that way. It is our Forum Ettiquette to not "hijack" another member's thread by posting/and working on our problems on them....related or not. Just start a new thread of your own, give it an appropriate title and we'll be very happy to try our best to help you resolve your issues. EDIT: I see that you still have not posted you own thread yet....if you want help, why not??

Jf928 has the above problem solved Jeffrey, they contacted me via PM. They do have a dual monitor question though that is beyond my knowledge so I told them to possibly ask it in the 500 series or gaming sections of the forum. P.S. Stop scaring our new members.

If you have a problem please start a new thread so this does not confuse forum members with the original OP thread.

I'm soooo sorry.... ....some people are just oversensitive. Most folks just apologize to the OP for their momentary "bad manners" and post their thread as requested.
