I just hear some coil whine from my 980. It doesn't happen when I am playing games but I hear it from fire strike. I noticed that it only happens when FPS is really high like 200+FSP and if I turn vsync on and limited the refresh rate to 60 it won't whine. Should I return the card back to store? I am still within my 30 days return period.

I have the same "problem" with my Gigabyte G1.
I only have whine in benchmarks. In games the whine is zero, with or without vsync on, so for me is not a problem.
The card I was using before, a R9 290x, had the same problem.

There are tons of threads about coil whine on this series. If it is bothersome, return/exchange it if you can at your local store, or look into an RMA. Just be aware, like everyone else posting this exact title and asking the same question, just because you take one of those options does not mean your next card won't have the same issue.

Multiple manufacturers are experiencing this and it ranges widely how bad it is. No manufacturer or card series is exempt.

I installed my old GTX 680 FTW today and it has a little bit of coil whine too, I never noticed it before. It seems to happen only when frame rate is really high(200+)
