So I had some time to play my with 2 new GTX1080's.  I have done some mild overclocking and still have things to learn about how to use GPU Boost 3.0.  With that said I have to say that I am very impressed with the performance, temps and overclock ability.  I have gotten my cards just under 2100 Mhz.

Here are some links to some of my 3DMark scores.  My overall score is being held back slightly by my x79 platform compared to the other newer platforms but not tremendously but my graphics scores are in the ballpark.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12292243  - Extreme Fire Strike
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8656691 - Regular Fire Strike

I have keep my power limit at 120% and my temp limit at 92.  Temperatures never get above 60 or so.  I did set a pretty aggressive fan profile but the fans don't seem loud to me in my system.  I have been looking for the spike of the fans and while it might be present I cannot say that it bothers me or sounds like an ocean.  In any case this would go away with the next driver update.

I played some Doom on Ultra on 2d surround (5940 x 1080).  It is very smooth and plays well.  My three 780's in SLI struggled to play it on medium.

Still doing some more testing but I thought I would share my impressions.  There seems to be a lot of folks taking shots at the 1080's but I for one have been very impressed.  I am sure the other cards will be more impressive and 1080 TI will be killer but these work great for me and have been quite the performance boost.

Update 1:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12292497 - Firestrike Extreme

Update 2:
Added Benchmark testing from Metro 2033 - see other posts

Update 3:
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8678598 - Firestrike - Best score so far.  Will run extreme and ultra as well.  Maxed out my cards to around 2.1 Mhz.

I've been wanting to see a real benchmark, thank you.
I ran a Firestrike benchmark for comparison. Granted, it's an i7-6700k but still good for comparison. 2 x H.O.F. 980's, stock clocks on both cpu and gpu. 23245 Firestrike score.
I have ran one of my evga 1080's on same system and scored 16k+. I don't have a Nvidia bridge but dying to bench the pair of 1080's.

I am using the original 3 way EVGA LED Pro bridge.  I will be interesting to compare results with the new bridge when it comes out later this month.

Might just try the flexible bridge. Read it limits the bandwidth but for kicks, see what it'll do.

What do you consider an aggressive fan curve?  I am running one 1080 (shopping for a 2nd) and with a 1:1 curve seeing 70-74 C at the GPU.  This is with a very positive airflow case with intake filter.  If I remove case intake filter I'll see temps of 68-71 C at the GPU.  I'm at a max clock of ~2050.  I am curious how you're seeing 60C with two cards.

Honestly the only thing holding me back is fear of heat soak with two GPUs baking in the case.  I understand they are blowers but we still see some heat soak leak into the case.

Do you have any in-game stats?  The synthetic scores are nice but in-game is the real lure.

I am using 2 1080 SLI with a 2 way strap bridge with a slight overclock. I am interested to see what the new HB bridge results will be. I have seen Benchmarks with the new bridge with up to 80% GPU scaling. I can't imagine I am getting more than a 50% scale with the old bridge.

Nice scores, specially in 1440p, where is my area of interest.
Please post the new benchs when you acquire the HB bridge.

I am a little disappointed with the score.
I expected GS higher than 45000 with oced.

Here is my 980 Ti SLI score.
GS is 40909, which I use it for everyday gaming not just for benchmarking.

I tried to put my link and it disappeared from my posting whenever I saved them.
Preview shows the link, but it's gone. I tried so many times.
Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I attached the pic of the link since it seems like I can't insert the link until I post more than 10.
    Anyway, thanks for the advice~

I tried to put my link and it disappeared from my posting whenever I saved them.
Maybe I am doing something long.

You need 10 posts to include links.  Put in the link and add a space behind the http://

Busy day at work.  I have some more benches I ran with some better results.  I will post them when I get home.  Personally if I had 980ti's I would wait to upgrade at least until the 1080ti.  For me I came from 780's and the difference for me is huge even with tri-SLI 780's.  So the jump is all relative to where you are coming from.  Those that aren't as impressed by the 1080's probably shouldn't expect to be since they are essentially 1/2 generation behind in some respects.  I have tended to upgrade every other generation.  With the 2 parallel generations (non-ti/ti  - not to mention the Titan) coming out it makes things a bit tougher in some regards to determine when to upgrade.

Also want to mention that the benchmark scores can be a bit deceiving since not everyone has the latest processors and boards.  I am still rocking the x79 while many of you have moved on to other platforms.  Perhaps it would be helpful to look at the graphics scores specifically on the benchmarks.   I am not sure if that creates an even comparison but it would be closer than some of the overall scores.

SLI test with old style bridge shows 121.63FPS @4k with Ultra settings in SLI vs 61.82 single card on Shadows of Mordor and 53.31 vs 27.15 in Firestrike 4K. That is almost 97% scaling on both tests. 97%!!!! There is NO WAY that new "high bandwidth" bridge can do better. It is all marketing hype.

Hitting 30K in Firestrike on SLI 1080 FE’s with max OC.

Currently using an old non LED SLI bridge.
Wish the HB bridges were available!
